I love that I have the freedom to form emotional connections to characters and then make porn of them, but I know that most of this stuff isn't really hidden to kids despite how many "you must be 18" filters we put on things. The thing is issues like this are one big elephant in the room that doesn't get addressed by, but it should. And the problem is the parties involved, that is the artists, the art websites, the parents, the internet providers, browsers, etc., are often too disconnected from one another to talk a solution to the issue.
It'd take a combined effort from all these people to find a solution that is beneficial for all. But on top of the miscomunication problem, there's also the issue of self-righteousness. You'll have your handle of artists who think it's their right to draw what they want and not care that a kid finds it, as well as your handle of parents who think drawn porn should be outright censored if not made illegal.

Another issue here is how the parents approach the issue to begin with - if they're aware of it in the first place.
Even parents with a good idea on how to teach sexuality to their kids aren't aware that these characters their children watch on television have porn drawings of them on the internet. Heck, for some of them the concept of fanart alone seems alien, so when they find out someone out there has drawn lewd of them they can be just as confused as their kids - on top of being outraged.
It'd help if parents were informed about the matter early on, preferibly in an informative, non-biased manner. Otherwise they may learn too late about it from an online parents group with biased and outraged views on the isssue.

It's not so much what your sentiments are (valid as they can be) but how you let that affect your work. It's common for artists to feel like their characters are stripped off their dignity by having porn of them drawn, but should they let that be and continue their work, or should they get out of their way to address the issue and fight it?
In my experience, the former option is the better one. Artists who try and attack the issue either end up botchering their own work in order to "defend" or "protect" their character or only draw more attention to the porn itself by addressing it in social media and the likes.
