All right, I've had a long day at work, so let's get started!
This doesn't look promising.
>>83234172
Oh shit, I remember this guy from Seanbaby.
>>83234314
Not making me more optimistic, Anon.
>Sweet Jumping Christmas!
>No one laughs at Mr. Fish!
Look at him, Anons. Look at him and laugh.
Wow, they managed to get away with a playboy reference back in the days of the CCA?
And now you know Mr. Fish's origin.
>>83234172
Decades later they revealed that he had a hitherto unknown twin brother with an identical fish-based mutation.
>>83234708
Why did two idiots fuck with radioactive isotopes and fall into the water?
>>83234765
It think it was implied that Mr. Fish 2 was one of the other two guys shown helping Mr Fish 1 steal it in >>83234667
>>83234765
(Not the guy) I think the idea is that family lines would mutate in the same direction.
>>83234913
Based on that origin he's not a mutant, he's a Silver Age type mutate. You know, "radiation gives superpowers instead of cancer"
>>83234667
Guy in panel 4 is reading Playboy. Man, the casual attitude to sex and porn in the 70's was sure something different than today.
>>83235016
Considering after years of "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" I'm surprised.
>>83234708

This issue is continuing on from >>83209279
No, I don't know why issue 29 was different.
>>83235006
Nooooo! Not Mr. Fish!!
Damn Orange Julius is at it again!
>>83235194
It was late being made (or something) so the Mr. Fish story was used instead, so that they'd have SOMETHING to put out.
>>83235326
Wow, weird.
>>83234172
>This doesn't look promising.
Well, if he's real lame, the good news is people who fight Cage have a tendency to die fairly quickly.
Seriously. He should be more careful about that. He's going end up arrested for manslaughter/murder.
>>83235083
>7 barrel shotgun
That's fucking awesome.
>>83235392
You'd think the escaped convict would be better about that.
>>83235006
Cage sure accidentally kills a lot of his rogues.
>>83235478
The surviving ones eventually formed a team called the Flashmob, though I think they've so far only fought the new Power Man.
>>83235448
Having a big ass gun is basically that guy's superpower. Seriously, I want to post that thing on /k/ and see how they react.
>>83235478
Yeah, and The Red Hood accidentally fell into that vat of chemicals, let's not start asking too many questions.
>>83235016
This was back when Times Square was mostly porn theaters.
>>83235392
>>83235478
>>83235519
Does Luke even have an archenemy? I once saw someone bring Gideon Mace up as it.
>I made it despite the fact that the highway bandits are demanding 72.9 cents per gallon of gas
>73 cents a gallon
>Highway Bandits
I don't know about you Anons, but where I live, the cheapest gas in the area is around $2.19 a gallon.
>>83234981
Actually in the Silver Age they said mutants were caused by radiation. Even as late as the early Bronze Age with Sunfire getting powers because his mother was at Hiroshima.
>>83235607
Mace is one of the few foes of his that stuck around.
But the one enemy of his that is really personal is Willis Stryker, his former best friend who framed him for drug peddling over a woman they both had feelings for. But he died in his first fight with Luke because it turns out that when the hero has bulletproof skin, fighting with knives isn't a good idea.
>>83235607
Gideon Mace is one of his few recurring villains that's still alive, so I guess it'd have to be him by default. It's usually attributed to Willis Stryker for his involvement with Cage's origin but then he died pretty much right out the gate.
Tombstone has been used as a Cage villain a few times, so maybe him too.
>>83235654
Xavier's dad was at an A-Bomb testing, Hank's dad was at a nuke plant near-meltdown, what were the other main X-Men's?
>>83235139
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOb776RLdIc
>>83235607
I've seen Chemistro thrown around, as well.
>>83235709
Yeah, Diamondback was important, though he fits more (and I hate quoting TV Tropes) as a "Starter Villain" or "Token Motivational Nemesis".
Especially since he died almost immediately.
>>83235654
Yeah, that's why they were called "Children of the Atom." It was later retconned that the trace amounts of radiation the permeated Earth's atmosphere as a result of the nukes and all the nuclear testing is what caused the drastic rise of mutants. Since prior to that, mutants were pretty rare.
>>83235755
I can't think of any X-Men off the bat, but there's plenty of minor mutants like Nuklo, Nekra, and Mindworm whose origins involve radiation exposure.
>>83235789
Chemistro is weird. He's a Legacy villain, but Luke keeps fighting them.
>>83235755
They kinda didn't say, after all the whole idea of "mutants' was so that Stan Lee could be lazy about origin stories.
I'm thinking they would blame it on global A-bomb test fallout.
>>83235856
I love how, despite the X-Men being one of the biggest Marvel franchises, it has its roots in Stan Lee being lazy with origin stories.
>>83235722
>Tombstone has been used as a Cage villain a few times, so maybe him too.
Probably works the best, if only because they have a similar powerset. Other complimentary aspects can probably be fanwanked up, as well.
They used him for things like Cage Noir, Cage MAX, the current Power Man and Iron Fist, and probably more.
>>83235898
>>83235856
>Stan Lee being lazy with origin stories
It's one of my favorite things about the X-Men
Despite the fact that I'm storytiming THIS madness, I'm also a fan of Mar-Vell fan. So I know exactly how trying to stop a case of powerful gas with your bare hands will go.
>inb4 Luke Cage gets cancer
>>83235233
This took longer than I thought it would.
In the short run? This actually worked out a bit better for Mar-Vell.
>>83235282
I think that soda machine has more appearance than most of Luke's villains.
>>83236121
It certainly causes more fustration.
That's weirdly fucked up. On his knees, and this weirdo puts a flower in his hair.
>>83235625
Around here, three dollars is a steal.
And there goes the beautiful six-seven barreled shotgun.
>>83236163
Sweet Christmas! That's like something out of a prison-rape scene.
What do you think Anons, one more issue?
>>83236163
Also, that looks nothing like an orchid.
>>83235607
There was an episode of Earth's Mightiest Heroes ("To Steal an Ant-Man") where a bunch of Luke's baddies got cameos.
>>83236346
Feel free to. I'm still catching up through the last thread.
On which note, I offer this as reminder that when Clint Barton was Goliath, he too had an extremely silly costume.
Seriously, who designed this shirt, Hercules? It's like just an extended mask and a weird nipple covering harness thing.
>>83236550
I dunno, I kind of have a soft spot for bondage outfits.
Unfortunately my laptop is being a dick, so I'll leave it at that for tonight. See you tomorrow, where we go through the first Annual!
power bump
bumping for mr. fishdon't laugh
>>83234172
Thanks op, really enjoyed this series so far.
This is cool
Bump to possibly keep a conversation going while I read this.
>>83235152
My god. The Original Mr. Fish was named Mort.
The absolute madmen.
>>83235326
>>83235342
Given that Mr Fish was Bill "Fill ins" Mantlo and George Tuska, it was probably just a story they had on file in case of deadline issues.
>>83235625
This is '76, so there's still a residual bitterness over the OPEC Oil Crisis I think.
>>83236032
>>83235898
And despite that laziness, Cyclops STILL ended up with more of an origin story than a lot of heroes.
>>83235342
It's called a "Fill-In Issue"; they would have stories already written and drawn & colored on file, with no connections to any other story, so that if the "Dreaded Deadline Doom" (aka "Fuck, I'm not done yet") hit, they could drop it in anywhere (sometimes with a hastily-done framing sequence) as indicated by >>83235326 and >>83245475.
>>83246274
That's because Claremont kept adding onto it, including the Corsair and Sinister.
