I really liked Stakes, but the biggest issue with it is that it had far more potential than was used in the actual show. It was enjoyably bland, with the occasional high point. It really could have focused on Marceline as a character.

Every single Fionna & Cake episode so far has been boring and unfunny. Is the "hip and modern and cool" cartoon patronizing girls and dumbing the episodes down?
Regular AT has its fair share of dumb episodes, but Fionna & Cake have a 4/4 track record, a gem should've turned up by now.

In that episode Sugar seemed to make a 180 from affectionately parodying fanfiction to making a straight up fanfic, and it was boring as shit.
Marshall was a boring asshole and his caustic attempts at getting Fionna to admit she loves him for no reason were dumb. Maybe you can say it's some hidden meaning about how Marceline views herself and Finn or something but since that will never be further elaborated I don't care all that much.
Had some alright songs but that's about all I can give it credit for.
It really felt like Sugar got caught up in her fangirl lust for Marshall or something, which is weird because the episode still openly acknowledges how much of an asshole he is.

I thought the whole flirting thing was very Marshall/Marceline-esk so it fit in with the character. I guess it did get a bit tiring but it was the character interaction that the episode was centered around so it makes sense to push it.
I generally like the Adventure Time songs so although "Bad Little Boy" wasn't the greatest of these it was still a plus for me.
The ending with Fionna fighting the skeletons and then flipping out at Marshall was pretty cool as well.
There are certainly much better episodes in the series but overall I found it to be entertaining. I might be being a little biased though since Marceline is my favorite regular character so I was excited to see her counterpart.
As a side note I thought it was clever that since the story was being told by Marceline she made Gumball (PB) out to be boring and lame at the start of the episode
