End of issue #1. We're rolling back the numbering again
This story time has made me realize that everything should have ended after mask of light.

It's variable. Every time I revisit the Bionicle story, there are several times where I think "they really coulda ended it here." I wonder how many times the production of the line got extended longer than the writers thought it would

I mean, I loved it. Plus they had been planning on Mata Nui being what he is since the beginning.

True, but I doubt that they knew either when they were going to be able to do the big reveal or how long the story would go on overall

And that's the end of BIONICLE.
A big thank you to all of you who managed to tough it through the whole story. This was my first time storytiming, and it was certainly a learning experience.

And what an underwhelming ending it was. At least as told by the comics -- the book was a bit better, but it sucked that the main Toa weren't even together as a team. Though that's what happens if you have to rush out a finale when Lego already wants to go onto the next line of toys.

I'm curious to know how many times Lego had to "renew" the series over its run. Certainly they didn't originally envisage the whole Bara Magna arc

From what I know, a lot of the major stuff in the 2001-2008 story was pre-planned, but they kept adding in details as they went. The story bible must have been a mess.
Bohrok-Kal existed because they had to have an extra wave before the movie came out.
First movie was supposed to end with Mata Nui waking up, but it got postponed for years.
2005 was forced onto the creators by Lego, it wasn't planned for (ironic, considering that most of the later edginess probably originated from here).
But the story also got shortened at several points. They at first wanted to do more flashback sagas, but kids found those too confusing (hardly surprising, the early-2004 media didn't really drive the point home that Metru Nui was a prequel).

Thanks brah

I know these were rushed as fuck and mostly take place in a desert, but wow, the backgrounds and environments are practically nonexistent.
The big reveal of the "new world" is like a bare minimum: some green field, a bunch of tree branches, detail-less mountains in the back, and a single fucking flower.

>First movie was supposed to end with Mata Nui waking up, but it got postponed for years.
This makes a lot of sense, considering how the endings to the Mask of Light movie (and game too) were vague in the extreme
>ironic, considering that most of the later edginess probably originated from here
Perhaps not ironic, for the rush job may be the reason why the storytelling got to be so sloppy
>They at first wanted to do more flashback sagas
This would have made much more sense, considering how much background they were working on behind the scenes (notice how the Piraka and the Barraki both really takes things into the past), but I understand at the same time why it wouldn't go over so well with kids
