>Marvel is set for another major publishing initiative, this time kicking off this fall following "Civil War II." As teased in the "Civil War II Daily Bugle Newspaper" released today, the publisher will return to the "Marvel NOW!" branding, first used in 2012 in the aftermath of "Avengers vs. X-Men," for its latest crop of new series and new status quos.

>Readers will get a first look at the line in the "Marvel NOW! Previews Magazine," available in stores on July 13. Much like last year's "Marvel Previews" supplement that revealed the post-"Secret Wars" "All-New, All-Different Marvel" lineup, it'll reveal new creative teams and new series for Marvel's lineup going forward after a major event (though "Civil War II" will be relatively early in its run by mid-July).

>"Marvel NOW! is about the future of the Marvel Universe," Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said in a press release. "We're excited to provide fans with a snapshot of things to come right before San Diego Comic-Con. Fans can look forward to hearing about brand new titles, returning favorites and even some shocking status quo shifts that are sure to keep fans guessing all the way through 'Civil War II.'"

>The "Marvel NOW! Previews Magazine" will be available on July 13. "Civil War II" #1, by Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez, is on sale next Wednesday, June 1.

Gotta say, after reading DC Universe Rebirth 1, Marvel is definitely not going to top it with fucking Civil War 2. And i thought Dark Knight 3: Master Race was bad.

How can they be this stupid? Could they really not figure out another tagline? Or just to drop it?

ENOUGH WITH THE RELAUNCHES

Jesus Christ, I think I'm done wih the Big Two.
>>
>it'll reveal new creative teams and new series for Marvel's lineup going forward after a major event

This is the moment for us cosmic fans. Bendis will be in charge of a new Jessica Jones and Sam Humphries is gone for good.

Could this finally be the moment we have been waiting for. The rebirth of cosmic?
>>
>>83148155
I wanted to think they aren't stupid enough to relaunch again after readers and retailers expressed annoyance at ANAD and after some ANAD books are ending up lower than before, but...
>>
>>83148680
Since Infinity War is coming out in 2 years, maybe they'll start putting more effort into their cosmic properties.

Yeah I don't think they'll relaunch everything a la ANAD but they probably are gonna put more effort into some pre existing books and launch some new books
GOTG 2 is coming out next year so they're gonna do something with them. Whatever it is it just needs to not be Bendis. He should fuck off to the Inhumans or something.

Marvel is completely incapabale of creating anything good ever again.

Basically what you need to know is Wally West from before New 52 is back in comics, and Doc is the scape goat as to why New 52 was so bad, oh and Zack Synder's version of the Watchmen are in DC now, because I garentee you Moore didn't approve of that idea at all.
>>
Unless they've got a bunch of new writers for these books, i don't see the point.
>>
>>83148155
Why Marvel? Isn't this like the 20th "status quo changing" event in the last 4 years. Just write fucking stories. DC waited like 5 years before a soft relaunch, you can seem to wait a fucking week.
>>
>>83152804
What, you don't want the same five guys writing everything?
>>
I thought they rebooted everything with secret wars
>>
>>83150239
I've never liked Geoff Jons' writing, but Rebirth was good. However that being said, it doesn't so much tell a story as make a series of statements about what DC Comics is/should be.
>>

They're going to be selling a lot more #1's. And #1's make money.

Marvel doesn't reboot, they just relaunch.

>>
Shouldnt it be "MarvelTHEN!"?

I mean, it's not 'now'.
>>

That's why you use more #1s, crossovers, and events to cover that up.

I started collecting in the late 70's, stopped in the Lolfield era, and restarted about 10 years ago.

Mainly it was speculation by the consumer. Of course the Big 2 started eagerly feeding that speculation, with retarded variants, foil and holographic cover bullshit, and you had a rise in secondary companies helmed by creators who split off to cash in on the gold rush.
All in all it got to the point where you had a titanic wall of comic titles, and then confidence in the entire scheme fell apart and the bubble burst.

But it definitely started with collector fags paying outrageous sums for dubiously rare books from the 60's and 70's.

Marvel's lead is predicated on their relaunches and Star Wars lines.
>>
>>83155452
>Why are they so worried about DC's Rebirth thing?
They aren't. Why should they be? They see the shoppe across the street doing a big promo, they decide they want to run one too. It's called maintaining market share.

Marvel and DC are running a business, you know. And there's a finite market for comic books.
>>
>>83155452
New52 drove away a significant number of Fans, which Rebirth is intended to bring back into buying DC.

>>

When has Moore been consulted for anything ever? he already said it as it is.

Both publishers are creatively bankrupt, and suits not writers create the stories through pseudo talent that only got that far due to the pull of "relationships".

There is a good reason why they can't sell shit except through cheap tricks, like movies, adaptations, crossovers, relaunches, hero vs hero dick battles, death and resurrections.

But Marvel? They've just been rebranding and renumbering just because, it's nothing outrageous enough to make someone stop and go 'what is that'
>>
>>83156532
The Spider-female books were always going to have a limited lifespan, once fapping to them has lost the novelty.
Nova was doomed as the goodwill towards Annihilation faded and Dick Rider was swapped out for Doughnut Steele.

>both publishers r bad!

it's almost as if Marvel is the bad one and Marvel fans are just projecting their lack of quality onto DC?

Nah, it's almost as if both companies are about as good as they've been for a couple of decades, and DCshrills are pained because of their recent failures. Unless you think it's Marveldrones creating threads titled "MARLEL"
in which case you've probably been lurking too much for your own good.

Pretty much this.

How many events does DC do compared to Marvel? How many relaunches does DC do compared to Marvel's 4 a year?
>>
>>83156572
DC has a more consistent quality output, but the Batgod stuff is awful, and they doesn't really have a lot of interesting characters. I'm liking what they are doing with the cosmology btw.
I try to stay away from Image, the quality control is weird (they have great comics, but a lot of utter trash pseudo-indie shit).

I like Valiant a lot tho.

So how long until the "next big event" launches.

FFS, they only had a 4 month break between secret wars and civil war 2.

Are we seriously looking at a big event and relaunch every 2 months? Despite LCS and general numbers saying that the market is getting beyond tired of it?

I've been here as long as anyone. It was always 90% Batgod faggotry and "Could Superman Beat X" and Gay for the X-Men and "Writer X is a hack".

/co/ was never a polite forum for the in-depth discussion of comics medium. It's been pirated comics, heckling and the occasional storytime forever.

Big companies of any sort are slow ponderous beasts that very reluctantly alter their business models. Loss of market share is the only thing that snaps them out of their rut.

I say this as someone who works at a big Fortune 500 company doing the same tired old shit.
>>
>>83157596
Talks about another market crash have been bouncing around more recently.

Marvel is doing a LOT of the same shit that lead to the 90's bust.
>>
>>83157596
Death of X is in a month or two, right?

This is just the standard Marvel MO. They don't make comics with stories. They make events to pitch as movie ideas.

It used to be that Marvel had Spiderman and X-men to counter the fact that their main titles were utter shit, but now Spiderman is awful and X-man is intentionally being tanked because muh movies.

The House of Bad Ideas is the Activision of the comics industry

Is Marvel being secretly run by Vince McMahon now? Because this makes no sense and will only drive away potential new readers further and further away

This could backfire so bad on Marvel it isn't funny.

LCS and readers are already highly annoyed and burnt out with the way Marvel has been relaunching and event driven lately. Casual readers are going to be put off from yet another attempt at it.

I'm not a fan of Rebirth, but at least DC only reboots every so often.

I just feel terrible for the writers. It's growing increasingly hard just to do a normal 6 issue run without having it effected by the new event or status quo. Readers have to be getting wipe lash over it.
>>
>>83157953
They try to piss off customers to get people talking. It's working; instead of Rebirth everybody is talking about how fucking stupid Marvel is being.

They're "Pretending to be Retarded: The Company."

You know who also sold well, Chuck Austen on x-men but he was removed for how awful his comic was
>>
>>83158121
Nothing could ever backfire on Marvel to make an actual impact. Marvel has a few dedicated lifers who will buy anything regardless of quality, and bank mostly on kids and Normies picking up a couple books for a bit, then dropping them. Marvel's goal is not to retain customers but to always pick up new ones they haven't chased off yet.

If it DID backfire, nothing would happen. Marvel is backed by one of the biggest megacorps on the planet so they can literally never go bankrupt. They have no incentive to not tank the industry because they aren't part of it. The absolute worst thing that could happen is Disney scales back the company and puts most of its properties on hold, like they do for the Muppets or Tron.
>>
>>83158209
how many reboots has DC done?
>>
I legit stopped buying Marvel books after Secret Wars because I really enjoyed it and realized whatever followed wouldn't come close and would be complete trash. As far as I'm concerned, the Marvel Universe ended with its rebirth in the last issue. That's it, all the characters literally got perfect closures to the stories that started back in the 60s. Humanity is going to the stars and shit thanks to Wakanda and even Doom is happy now.
>>

I'd be ok with an 8-month skip once a year actually

There are plenty of things that can already be marked and make Bingo because they're all but confirmed

-Nazi Cap will reference the old Civil War on his book.
-Black Panther and Thanos already acted out of character in FCBD
-It's confirmed someone will die in solicitations
-Ullyses is Bendis created and is the most important character
-The Guardians of the Galaxy will show up
-The Guardians show up to help Carol so it's confirmed Star-Lord will jump sides
-People already were sitting and talking about life on #0
-And of course, today was confirmed the event will push a new relaunch

I think it's enough to call Bingo twice.

>DC doesn't have interesting characters.

Here's the truth. A company named Marvel, which is almost entirely unrelated to the shitbags pushing rehash comics today, got Stan Lee, Ditko, Claremont, etc to write comics for them 40-50 years ago and current-day lame asses are still living off that initial greatness.

It's not DC's fault Spider-Man was made by some other guys 50 years ago, and that's no credit to Marvel. It's not DC's fault that Parent Company didn't buy Star Wars.
