I never really felt like this could reasonably occur within the context of the show, even with a major tone shift. George's kinda just taking it all here, when one of his defining characteristics is his resourcefulness and ability to adapt to sticky situations.
I mean, sure, he is relatively small; but a major plot element is that his height doesn't show at all, because he's always acting tall. George Shrinks, George Shrinks, he's called.
