Looking to finally start a comic book collection but I have no idea where to start...
Fan of both marvel and DC and I'm open to non marvel and DC comics.
Any idea what to start with?

Do you want to "collect" or do you just want to read?

Who's your favorite character or team?

well as for the collecting, I would like to read them once or twice, but keep them in sealed bags with backing to preserve quality.
As for my favourite character/team, I've always been a big fan of anti-hero or non traditional heroes such as the punisher, blade, deadpool, etc.

Are you OK with pirating? That'll save you a bazillion dollars, cause this shit gets expensive if you buy comics on a regular basis.

If you want to own copies and start at the beginning of the character I reccomed the Marvel Essentials of The Punisher.

If you only want to read his best stories check out /co/'s recommendations.

And here's/co/'s recommended Deadpool. I couldn't find any Blade.

Essentials suck because they aren't colored

For a lot of the older books they worked better than the colored reprints because they use newsprint. The coloring back then does not work well with the glossy stock used today. Although with the Epics line now, it looks better than what Marvel puts out most times. Plus some books just work better as B&W books.

I don't know about the Punisher essentials but a lot of the early X-Men essentials (especially the Byrne issues) look better without the color than with.

Jonah Hex. His recommended reading list is literally everything he's been in.

start buying current issues and when you see some old ones online or in conventions by them cheap
some you start having a backlog then go out and start looking
as for reading them you can download them that why you don't ruin your collectables
but why even collect comic books are and were printed on toilet paper level paper all those comics you see people showing off for thousands of dollars are falling apart underneath that plastic cover
imagine going in and one day seeing your most valuable comic disintegrated underneath its cover
in all fairness just read what you get your hands on and nothing is worth spending your entire paycheck on
