My experience is actually that the causality goes the other way! When I show up in a thread, the negativity dries up and the critics kind of scatter. I don't think they're, like, /scared/ or anything. It probably has more to do with the fact that people who like me start posting when they see me in a thread, which makes critics feel like they're just going to be drowned out.

I know I've mentioned it here before, but making the flashes isn't something that takes a huge amount of time - it's the writing. Important or complicated scenes tend to go through a lot of iterations before I find something that works, and that's not really a process I want to cut short. Remember, my main income before starting Prequel was art and writing contests, and after years in that circuit I really like being able to work on things until I think they're perfect rather than having to make concessions to meet a deadline. Not only that, but the stuff I take the proper time to test and perfect tends to get a better response than my strictly deadlined projects ever did. Maybe I'm just more of a critic than a writer: sometimes I can only discern the best way to do something by trying it and then seeing if it's good.
Like I've said before, though, the biggest delay here is just the shipping. Shipping 1000 things is ridiculous. From this thread though, it at least sounds like some of the expedited European ones are making it there by now.

Well, I guess I'm using "contests" kind of liberally. Before college I didn't need much money, and in college a lot of what I did was actually scholarship competitions. A lot of this stuff advertises very poorly, and there will only be a few people entering.
Most places actually have a sort of local "contest scene" though. Like, all through high school I was constantly getting consigned to second place by this professional artist who just camps like every art contest in the state. I think he still does it, I don't know. I'll take another lap sometime and see if he's still there beating me.

A chunk of that was production! I couldn't place the final orders until I knew how many I needed. After that, I needed to get the stuff to me, which turned out to be more complicated and time-consuming than I thought (especially the shirts. That was basically just a 700lb box I needed to move across the country). Shipping in earnest started shortly after I had the meetup, so about 2.5 months ago. And even then, I had to spend a lot of time setting things up with a company to ship to Europe. I just got that working recently.
Suffice to say, it's not something you should ever endeavor alone. With most of the production and shipping stuff now out of the way, I'm about 63% shipped. I've finished all the top-tier stuff and I'm currently working my way through the two largest groups of orders: the Treasure Chests and the Apparel Packs.
