The thing is that Phoenix is its own separate entity. It isn't a multiple personality or an untapped potential. Its an entity that was attracted to Jean's mind and merged with her. If they had changed the scene so that the Phoenix offered Jean help and then that happened it would have been better.

In the movies thus far they've kept it insular. All threats have been mutant in nature, which itself justifies anti-mutant sentiment. The persecution analogy gets completely neutered once you introduce aliens.

X-Men Evolution and X-Men: TAS were both amazing. Evolution was kind of a reimagining with a lot of things changed. I did like their version of Apocalypse a little bit more than TAS, but then again TAS apoc was still pretty badass.
