Let's be fair here, it does seem to imply that the cyclical nature of the stories mean that loopholes are in place to make sure people don't actually die while acting out their stories.
Badwolf using a smokebomb to give the Huntsman a slip is A-OK, as is the witch building an escape hatch into her oven so she's not harmed by being thrown into it. The Evil Queen isn't thrown in the dungeon forever or killed, she's given a slap on the wrist to satisfy the ending and then gets to go home to her massive castle and raise her daughter.
