hey /co/ I want to know which X-Men character is the most popular

So tell me, who is your favourite member of the X-Men and why do you like them?

Wolverine is the end all, be all of popular mutants. You should know this.
>>82955406

Colossus. He's just a genuine, good guy who cares about his friends and sister.

Yeah he's the only xman with two (soon to be three) big budget feature length films. I'm sure among x-men comic readers he is not as often the favorite. But overall he's easily the most popular x-manq

Casuals, mostly. Because he's cool, dark and literary edgy etc.

My favourite is Nightcrawler. He seems like a really great guy and his powers can be pretty cool.

As a child my favourite was definitely Nightcrawler because he always seemed to be having the most fun being a hero.

But now I'm older I feel like I can empathise more with Scott than Kurt, and I probably like him more.

Emma Frost. Because she is one of the best examples of a villain turned hero, she still comes off as a villain sometimes with her attitude but she is far more heroic than most of the X-men. Also, I love how she calls everyone out on missusing telepathy and she holds telepaths and herself to a much higher standard that other people with powers

also, boobs
>>
Nightcrawler, Probably a bro. Blue is a good color. Teleporting is great.
Colossus, best movie dad second place comic dad.

Almost all the women in comics have 'fake' boobs. They don't work like the real world. So...super powers give women bigger breasts and also make them not move

I don't know if i can call her my absolute favourite tho, i also usually like Wolverine and Storm a lot... eh, they're all just cool
>>

Err.... great?
You can like both you know. You can even like both Logan and Slim.
>>
>>82955933
Won't argue that. I love how that makes her more of person, you know. Every girl in comics has DDs and face of supermodel. Emma got that too, eventually. Reminds me of that cowboy girl Kaine banged, I think. Wearing wig and whatnot.
>>82955966
Not that anon, but never did. I love my muggas with fancy colored powers. Claws are good only in Diablo.
>>
>>82955406
Honestly? Wolverine.

But only when he's on his own. I love his solo adventures, but he's honestly one of my least favorite when it's an actual team of X-Men.

But I can't help but love the little Canadian weaboo.

>>82955406
Most popular is Wolverine. That pig barf is among Marvel's poster boys like Spider-man, Captain America and he has never looked not out of place to me. Well, at least he was, only good thing about Fox's X-men is bickering between them and Marvel.

As a kid I always liked Cyclops, still do, but like a year ago I started reading New Mutants and I immediately fell in love with Magik, and her own mini-series in my opinion is Claremont's best.
>>
>>82956259
Oh, that makes it ok then. Better call the prisons to let out all those people who weren't actually going to pull the trigger when they robbed someone at gun point, but didn't follow through on it.

Exactly. Being dead didn't stop Frank to Frank, right? What matters will writers use him and fuckload of other mutants. There are so many mutants unused you can field three more teams easily.
>>
>>82955406
Beast (before he was made into a cunt/before All-New X-men)

He doesn't have any amazing power, he relies on his smarts. He also ended up with the appearance of a Beast and faced a lot of problems because of his appearance, and he's an advocate for mutants.

>>
>>82955406
Colossus because he's a nice guy who also tears shit up and I also like that he was a simple Russian farmer
>>
>>82955406
Nightcrawler, best power, best look, fun attitude
>>
>>82955406
Two favorites: Jubilee and Cyclops

Jubilee because I like her general upbeat attitude. She constantly sees the upside of situations and I like her as almost the moral heart of any group she's in, despite her generally bratty attitude. She's matured and can play the role of the cool, likable older sister. She's a nice contrast to the generally cynical tone that superhero comics have had for the last 10 or 15 years.

Cyclops is kind of the opposite. He's grim and determined. The guy, I think more than anyone else in the MU, is the ultimate hero. He's so pushed by duty that he's willing to foster the entire weight of the world on his shoulders and willing to sacrifice everything, even his own personal happiness. to achieve a world in which coexistence between different races and species is not just a possibility but a fact. Reading Claremont's run, Cyclops is honestly the most interesting character in the entire run. His desire for a normal life clashing with the reality of his situation is great reading.
>>
>>82957865
I fucking hate more than anything the attempts to give colossus and Magik back stories. Like there are several books about his life before giant sized and about magical raspitins and shit and just fuck that. Why can't we have one fucking superhero who wanted to be a superhero and who wasn't born of tragedy and forced into it?

Colossus is with great power comes great responsibility without him having to learn by watching his uncle killed
>>
>>82957966

My problem is Colossus is just kind of boring. I mean that's nice and all but he kind of doesn't have a personality beyond "hero" and "sensitive". Nightcrawler pulls off the "good guy who loves being a hero" shtick way better.

It says a lot that the best Colossus story was the one where he died, even if the mechanics of how he died were goofy.

I've always been a fan of Colossus and Nightcrawler from a design standpoint.

I'm just now reading some Claremont and I'm having the problem I always have with the X-Men where I wonder why people discriminate against them when heroes like the Fantastic Four are referenced in the book.

Like I understand Nightcrawler because of his appearance, but everyone else would be able to live fairly normal lives otherwise or are pretty standard superheroes. I feel like X-Men works better in its own universe.
>>
>>82959557
I've read it, he's not much of a character in the arc until the very end when he kills Proteus. It's far more of a Moira and Cyclops story with Colossus playing cavalry.
>>
>>82959712
It's called Public Relations.
People aren't afraid of the Fantastic Four because people know them. They're all scientists, they got into an accident (ie: people know that they won't randomly turn into The Thing), and they're rich.
Mutants have to deal with the fact that a lot of them have very shitty, dangerous powers and that literally anyone, at any given moment, can just erupt into Hellfire and kill a hundred people. There's nothing they can do to stop it, and that terrifies them. Also, the main antagonistic terrorist group is called, "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants". Which is really hard to spin in a good light.
>>
>>82955524

That's a hard question. To me, the defining aspect of Claremont's run is how serialized it is. There's great flow and build up to many arcs. Self contained stories are rare. Claremont also grows during the run, with his ability to write more subtly growing. Finally, the comics industry itself was maturing. GL,MK is a standalone graphic novel so it was able to be more mature than the typical floppy.

Long story short, there isn't anything like GL,MK because that wasn't what they wanted to make. There are plenty of good stories but they're better read as part of the run.

There's a Byrne quote about that in one of the storytimes about how adaptations of the Dark Phoenix Saga miss the point going right to Dark Phoenix and ignoring the build up which goes way back to Uncanny #97. The Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga is literally years--30 or so comics worth--of stories to get to that point.

I have always always *always* liked Wolverine, because he was constantly struggling for control.

Warlock is a mutant of his species -- he has empathy.

Hmm, top three X-Chix: Betsy (British version only), Kitty (pre-Bendis), and Catseye (dead Hellion, but, whachu gon do?).

She's a comic character.

All of her is fake.

Magneto, probably because of the performance of Ian McKellen in the live action original trilogy

Because he doesn't have world-destroying, reality-busting powers. And I've always wanted to be able to have complete command of languages.

Some good taste on the accent. Also Bengus Rogue is best Rogue. The hair, the high test, all of it.

Does being part of Angel & Wolverine's edgy black ops X-Men squad count?
