You've never heard of a gag where a character's reaction to something is meant to be humorous?

They even fucking have a thing for it on this website. Reaction images.

I mean, it's not particularly funny here, because the setup isn't that good, and the art is not very lively, but it's pretty clearly a joke.

Incorporating parts of her life into the story is fine. Most, if not all, comics where the character has a life outside of the costume do that. Spider-Man is a perfect example. She's a mom now. Breastfeeding and in general making sure her kid is taken care of is something she needs to do.

It's a completely normal part of being a parent. If the baby isn't feeding at the time and the milk isn't expressed, it can cause incredible discomfort to the mother's breasts.

Hopeless is probably basing all this storyline's baby facts on experience too, since his wife had twins not too long ago.

Did you get catch that? Let me repeat it in case you missed it on the other pages or the other books: JESSICA DREW IS A MOTHER. SHE HAS A CHILD. THE CHILD CAME FROM HER VAGINA. IT DRINKS MILK FROM HER BOOBS.

I was worried there for a second that people might not know the theme of this volume. It's a little subtle, but I assure you it's there.

Pregnant superheroes are a horrible idea. Why would you want to make a story about a character whose daily routine involves throwing super strong haymakers and taking hits capable of shattering stone regularly to their midsection? A pregnant super hero should be the same as a pregnant, anyone else who has a dangerous job, ie, vacation time.

>Why would you want to make a story about a character whose daily routine involves throwing super strong haymakers and taking hits capable of shattering stone regularly to their midsection?

Clearly I've got a vested interest, but I see multiple angles to tackle the whole pregnant superhero plot. You've got the "retire now, you've got more than your life on the line" angle, which as pratical as it is, kinda patronizing.

But another angle I see is the weird quantum state where a first-time pregnant character is in between being a parent and not one. How does she deal with impending motherhood? Is she still going to put on the mask and spandex in the third trimester or just dress in civvies? Does she fight crime because it's the right thing to do, or is it just a bloodlust? And if so, how's she going to raise her child not to inherit her same joy in punching people? Superheroes are by default pretty fucked up people, and I feel like giving them a child is a great way to throw a spanner in the works and see what comes out. And Hopeless didn't address nearly any of these issues in his shitty run.
>>
The best way they could have ended the pregnancy plot is some villain punching Jess really hard in the belly, and her bursting open with millions of tiny spiders crawling out and eating the villain alive.

Why do they keep showing this like it's an ok thing to be? Single mothers are little criminal factories, being a single parent is BAD. There's a reason that a family with a mother AND father has been the most successful family unit since the fucking stone ages. Why did Jessica not think "I want a baby, I should find a responsible guy and settle down and start a family" but instead thought "gosh I had a pregnancy scare there, but now I desperately NEED a baby, so I'll just get some semen stuffed in me at a clinic so I can have a fatherless child!"

>After the battle with the Inheritors, Jessica decided to quit the Avengers in order to start a new life and to focus on helping ordinary civilians.

>Over the following year, Jessica got pregnant via artificial insemination, but continued her crime fighting life, enlisting Ben Urich and the Porcupine to help with her investigations while she was on the sidelines. She was invited by Captain Marvel to visit a maternity ward run by Alpha Flight, but the hospital was taken over by Skrulls. Jessica hatched a plan with the other mothers in the maternity ward and together, they defeated the Skrulls. However, when she called Carol for assistance, Carol revealed that the maternity ward was in fact inside a black hole. The fight with the Skrulls continued, Jessica winning by a large margin. Before she could finish them off, however, she unexpectedly went into labor. She had an emergency C-Section, and just seconds after the procedure was completed and she was handed her new baby boy, she got up from the operating table and defeated the last wave of Skrulls. Carol arrived just in time for Jessica to collapse from the immense postoperative pain she was experiencing.

The fact that super heroes who aid aliens, monsters, and mutants without question seem grossed out by milk just goes to show how closed minded these writers really are, and how their need to prove a point poorly fits in.

Grow up, Cindy.
>>
>>82970159
I dunno she looked pretty pissed at her friend for saying anything about her milk.
>>
>>82949720
if that's what you think then you need to stop having a shitfit over people criticizing it because you just admitted it was a poor, garbage attempt
>>

sounds like....

they're really MILKING it...

FUCKING CARLOS!
>>
>>82949604

Oh, for crying out loud. Don't tell me you're reading superhero comics for the plot.

Superhero comics are like soap operas; you're not reading them for whatever stupid shit is happening this week, you're reading them to follow the same character you've been following for twenty years.
>>
>>82955088

Gwen's 19. And if I remember correctly, the only time she's been in a bar in her own series, she was refused service.
>>
>>82958777
>However, when she called Carol for assistance, Carol revealed that the maternity ward was in fact inside a black hole.

For some reason, this is perfectly timed to make me laugh.
>>
>>82960523

No one complains when superheroes suffer eight severe concussions in three days, break all of their ribs several times over, dislocate the same joint time and time again, or get a single dramatic tooth knocked out three dozen times throughout their career without ruining their smile. It's really unfair to call bullshit on this in particular.
>>
>>82970042

Cindy definitely seems like the sort of womanchild that would go "eww groce" over breast milk simply because, as you say, American society has told her any woman's secretions are inherently disgusting and unnatural.

>Jessica's face as she explains what the milk is

So kawaii. I wanna see a pic of her in costume and topless pumping them boobs!
>>
>>82951638
I wise man once said "I don't trust things that bleed for 5 days and doesn't die." I feel this is the truth of the world these days.
>>
>>82947679
isn't there a comic were spider-man or some guy from the avengers drinks his coffee with breast milk from jessica because she just left it there?
>>
>>82947679

>Spiderwoman
>no organic nutritious webbing from mammary glands
>dropped
>>
>>82972645

I don't know what you're talking about, but it sounds like fan material. I don't think Jess has been lactating long enough for Marvel to make that joke.
>>
>>82973009
nop, it's not some fan shit, I know is from a marvel comic but I just don't know which one.
>>
>>82970273
Who's having a shitfit?
>>
>>82973058
Sounds like you made that up in your sick depraved mind.
>>
>>82973167
I know is from a bendis book where jessica was part of the cast.
>>
>>82973528
Bendis hasn't written baby mama jess yet.
>>

wasn't he writing her for new avengers after the baby?

>>
>>82952771
That'd be really fucking metal and I'd be down for it.

think of all the protein that's in that milk though with Jessica's spider genes.

it's there, somewhere in some new avengers issue you can see danny drinking from a cup jessica's milk, but not like is some obscene shit, just a bendis joke.

Shut up and bring home food.

The energy from the Sun would be passed to her child through the umbilical cord... it's not like all her power is concentrated at skin level, otherwise if she stopped flying suddenly, her bones would be crushed to powder.

I think the more interesting thing to ponder is what would happen to her (two) main powers after having a baby.... :)
>>
>>82973996

> lactation fetish

I don't think I even had a fetish until the first time I sucked milk from a lactating woman's breasts.
>>
>>82975099
Lucky bastard.
>>
>>82975099

You're LITERALLY stealing food from babies, you bastard!

Hey, now. If you don't eat it all, it goes away. I was "encouraging production."

Unlike Spider-Man, Spider-Woman is actually a spider. It's natural for her.
