Just another day at the office

What if wolverine was a kool hipster girl?
The only thing that pisses me off is how happy X-23 is. This scene implies X-23 just lays around all day reading comments. It's almost as bad as that Christmas Avengers where they show black Widow in pajamas laying on her bed looking at her black widow theme lap top.

X-23 taking up the mantle wasn't a bad move. Yes, it was inspired by modern comicbook publishers attempts to be progressive, but at least it wasn't as out of left field as Jane becoming Thor. My issue with the change is the complete disrespect the writers have shown toward X-23 and the journey she's gone through. Previous publications really paid respect to the fact that she was an ex-military project and had a rough upbringing. She wasn't this happy go lucky hipster always trying to be politically correct. She was socially awkward killing machine trying to navigate through her new surroundings and relationships (the most prominent being her relationship with her "father", a bond forged through their understanding of their similar backgrounds) and grow as a result. This new wolverine (and new take on x-23) gives me none of that. I'm all for Marvel trying to appeal to a wider audience, but this really rubs me the wrong way.

I don't think anyone save casuals are really pissed off at the idea of Laura being Wolverine.

They're pissed off because

1. That costume looks atrocious on her.

2. The character in this book is not Laura Kinney. She's the generic 'badass' action girl, plus clever witticisms and compulsory internet references. Absolutely no trace of X-23 the character remains in her.

3. Honestly, some kind of espionage story would suit her better. Orphan Black: Girlverine Edition is sorta okay, but the entire tone of it seems... awkward.
>>
>>82925422
Not at all, it makes perfect sense, and I'm not even mad that they had her personality make an improvement from "I don't know how to be social killing machine", it feels like her character has actually made some progress as far as growing up goes. But what I'm most happy aboit is that All New Wolverine didn't shy away and try to retcon out Laura's time as a prostitute. Honestly I've been enjoying this series. I just don't like the Wolverine costume on Laura, she should have stuck to her old Talon uniform.
>>
>>82927224
I honestly feel like she had already moved on, or was moving on at a realistic rate, from the initial level of social retardation.

This Laura feels like a completely different, and very generic, character.
>>
>>82927555
Consider this:

The last time she was written in a comic book before her ongoing it was in. All New X-Men, by The Bendis, and she was basically a non character at that point because of memory loss (the most lazy form of character development/devolution) and before then she was the cold emotionless killing machine in Avengers Academy. This version of Laura I find to be way more enjoyable than Bendis' take on the character, is it perfect? Nope, but it's a damn sight better than what we've gotten from her for the past 3 years.

Also, nice trips
>>

>>
>>82927660
I don't recall how much she's been around in the last three years.

Way I see it, her ongoing did her well, but the actual stories were unfocused and boring. There was some really good character stuff but I couldn't bring myself to care about what was going on around them.

After that it was... Arena? That's probably when shit went bad.

Was her ongoing in the last three years?
>>
>>82928479
Her ongoing was form more than five years ago I do believe, I think she was in X-Force at the same time, then it was Arena by Hopeless, then Bendis-Men, after Hopeless and Bendis I'm just happy to have a book with her in it that isn't written by either of them.
>>
>>82925696
Looks fine as long as she's not wearing the cowl, though I'd much rather a Wolverine colored version of her X-Force uniform. That was arguably her best costume.
>>
>>82925948
>She was socially awkward killing machine trying to navigate through her new surroundings and relationships (the most prominent being her relationship with her "father", a bond forged through their understanding of their similar backgrounds) and grow as a result.

Fucking this. From her first line of dialogue in New Wolverine I knew the writers didn't understand her character.
>>
>>82925948
At very least it couldn't possibly get any worse than Hopeless' depiction of her over in All-New X-Men. There's no way that she and the character in All-New Wolverine are the same person.

Even without his consent Daken took over the name once and I was fine with it, the idea I'd suddenly give a shit because Laura, who is literally a Wolverine clone anyway, did next is puzzling to me. Same thing with how Masterson or Ragnarok took the Thor title for a bit.

My only gripe with any of these cases is how the character themselves behaves, not whose name or image or whatever they're under. Whenever the Robins or Batgirls or whoever said or did something moronic I'd shake my head the same because dumb is dumb.

But these writers like to drum up their own drama to feel their ideas have an inflated significance people are opposed to due to how ahead of the time they are or whatever, instead of recognizing and accepting most of it has been done before, often better and the reactions are mostly from how they keep tripping over themselves despite past work to learn from.

My only complaint is that isn't Laura.

>>
>>82926520
You know what he means, if you ask people already interested in Marvel stuff what they think of her then of course even if they've only played that game or watched Evo or Wolverine and the X-Men they'll have some idea what you mean.

If you ask any of the FoX-Men moviegoers what they think of X-23 the majority will have no idea what you're talking about, and when you explain it will probably say it sounds dumb. Those casuals.

X-23 was the one that just felt like a complete non-issue.

>>
>>82925422
I don't like it. I'm not super well-acquainted with X-23, but from what I've gathered from X-Men: Evolution and a few comics I've read that she's been in, a big part of her character was that she was trying to find her own identity and not just be Wolverine Jr. So giving her Wolverine's costume and name is the exact opposite of what she needs.

Besides, Wolverine isn't gonna stay dead forever so this is just a temporary change when they could have put in extra effort to do a change that would actually last.
>>
>>82925302

they got rid of the violence and body horror that made Wolverine and X-23 fun to read in the first place.

I kind of hate that they have turned Wolverine and Thor into simply titles that anyone can hold. They've had that name for so long that it has become their name. It's not like they had a secret identity and were in a constant struggle to keep the identities separate.
