When he's allowed to have some character, I generally like him, but hot damn all the sudden dwelling on his race takes up way too much of the time that should be devoted to superheroing thanks to Bendis being incapable of not decompressing his stories to the point we're at now: two scenes taking up the entire issue, one for Ganke to sperg out with a dash of "who has it worse" drama out of nowhere and the other being a decent action sequence where Bendis goes back to his classic "make the main character forget something they should know for no reason" banter.
Not to mention having been shoved in event after event for years. His book will have just finished its first arc before he gets wrapped up in Civil War II.

Friendship is too often ignored in modern cape comics. I don't mind gay characters, but doing it now all of a sudden would cheapen the only thing that Miles' book has ever really had going for it consistently. Everything else is one event after another and characters weaving in and out and dieing off, but Ganke and Miles, bros for life, was the one thing it always could fall back on.

Goldballs was the character that Bendis wanted to be the break-out hit, presumably because he wanted a chubby superhero to relate to. But then everyone gravitated to his waifu-bait character instead, so he ended the comic by having her suddenly do a heel turn out of nowhere then fuck off in such a way that she instantly became hated and probably unusable, and made the last issue about Goldballs suddenly becoming a world famous superhero, on the cover of magazines, and shit like that. Then his mother revealed he was a mutant on live television and everyone went back to their sublime programming of "fuck mutie scum" to hate him.
Then he throws the rest of the new x-men he created into the bin for new writers to use as cannon fodder for dead mutants, but keeps Goldballs around to live on via his Spider-man run that'll never end.
Because make no mistake, Bendis will be on this book FOREVER.
