All memes aside, I'm not the only one who thinks Alex was an absolute hack writer right? The plot wholes, the unexplained everythings, the lack of character development, backwards moral messages, horrible representation in the female characters, Mabel as a whole? Anyone else leave this series feeling completely empty and unsatisfied?
I hate how the fanbase acts like if you don't think the show is completely perfect without flaws you're just wrong just because, and how they take saying that the show very obviously *needed* a Season 3 means that the show would have ran on like Simpsons and become stale. Like, fuck no, a third season would have given us more character development and actual use for the characters other than being side props that weren't even relevant in the finale. I feel like the messaging in the episode with Darlene was really backwards too. It's basically saying to young boys that girls and guys can't just be friends which is really messed up.

It was the wheel, and that's pretty much it. It's obvious that Ford was the only real mystery the show had to offer, and creating something new would have dragged the show out into a Season 4.

Weidmaggedon, the actual apocalypse and episodes, had the possibility to be fucking amazing if Hirsch or Disney or whoever went balls out, but instead we got Bill character degradation, more Mabel pandering, more Dipper character regression, Ford and Gideon rushed character development, whatever was happening with Stan, the other props I refuse to call characters, and important plotlines turned into absolute trash.

Hirsch were very confident when he said he always intended for Gravity Falls to have an end, like how a child's summer vacation eventually ends and your left with nostalgia.
I don't think he would have turned Gravity Falls into the next Simpson, in that, have 10+ seasons. He did, however, said he had plans fo a season three and if he couldn't make it to a season three, he always had a plan for an ending for season two.
Hirsch may get criticized for being called a hack and all, yet his expectations have always been realistic and he isn't deluded to think otherwise like most newcommers who think their work is the next big hit.

I think people who say there should have been three seasons just felt that some of the character development and plot needed a little more room to breathe, not that it should have gone on for more than 3. NWHS really feels like a season finale.
The concern is whether that would lead to a lot of filler, but I disagree that it would have to. Here are some things I might do -
Characters
1. The biggest thing that there needed to be more of, I think, is Stan and Ford interaction. The finale hinges on it but they barely interact. A few eps of that.
2. Wendy is the next big thing. The Stan and her episode discussed and other episodes not just about her being Dipper's crush.
3. A few eps of Pacifica going on adventures with the twins would have been fun.
4. Not a lot, but a little bit more of Bill manipulating events would have been nice. I was a little dissapointed the tapestry wasn't anything in particular. Bill having some human agents would be a nice touch, he could later screw them over of course. Oh, the Yo Gabbas did seem to come out of nowhere, so if you were going to use them, maybe some little bit of them doing a little.
5. Gideon's redemption needed more time.
Plot
1. I think that while a Care Bear Stare thing would have been lame the zodiac should have been better incorporated. Maybe Bill needs to use it to his benefit to escape or amplify his powers, or maybe it serves some small purpose for the heroes though not a decisive victory. It felt jarring.
And other things I'm too lazy to think of right now.

More Mcgucket screentime too. Show and flesh out his relationship with Ford more. Their scene in Weirdmaggedon Part 3 felt lackluster becasue there was literally no buildup and it was crammed into the last few minutes. Show for Ford and less Stan's older twin and Dipper's parallel. Do SOMETHING with Mabel's character design and stop making her so goddamn fickle with her boys. Or hell, keep her boy obsessed tendency, but make her actually act like the Big Sister she thinks she is. In fact, make everyone in the Pines family more familial with each other. Don't just make them their character archetype's and only make them do heroic saves or sacrifices for each other when the plot calls for it. Make us care about the Pines family instead of shoving down our throats about how GOOD and SACRIFICING and CARING they are and how YOU SHOULD ALWAYS MAKE SACRIFICES FOR YOUR FAMILY NO MATTER WHAT!11!!

When he said he intended for it to end he just meant it was supposed to take place over a single summer and wrap up a single overarching plot, not a constant episodic show or moving on to another big bad after Bill was defeated.
He planned for three seasons originally and as time went on he jumped between three or two seasons and a movie. He was in a way delusional or at least overestimated his own ability since the show did clearly suffer from the lack of a third season and because the only reason there isn't a third season was not because Disney cancelled on him, he made the decision because of burnout. He couldn't handle working in the big leagues so he just called it quits. Not very impressive, plus there's word from boarders on the show he was terrible as a director.
