One should be able to know and understand the personality of a well-designed character simply by looking at the appearance of that character, circumstances permitting. In real life, two people who look nearly the same may still have personalities that differ drastically from one another.
When designing the story, world, and characters of a work of fiction, an artist or designer will usually choose to create characters whose personalities can be known simply by looking at them. Names do not always follow this rule, but giving a character a name that references or describes that character's personality or innate abilities contributes to the character's overall design. Incidentally, children in real life do typically "grow into" their names, taking on the characteristics of the meaning of their own name.
The Pyrite character thinking very highly of herself--to the point where she considers herself worth more than she IS worth--is an example of following the rule I have described above. This is because the mineral pyrite is only an iron sulfide that is of very little value, but due to its appearance, it is commonly mistaken for gold.
"[Pyrite]...is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS2. This mineral's metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool's gold."[1]
