Fourth panel, right hand side: Blood splat on the wall? Did the crash hurt or kill someone?

This'll be interesting. Lots of people between them and the door, probably lots of people between them and the ground.
>>
>>82890939
... nice.
>>
>>82890938
Holly is also going to infect all those poor people in whatever she crashed into.
She's a walking apocalypse.
>>
>>82890938
>implying that Holly infected them
The virus was starting to spreding like crazy back in that time
>>
>>82890763
>Holly saw a snake who claimed to be Ethel (but didn't see her mutate)
>Holly can see that Doc's not human any more and was right there when he changed.
>As soon as she gets a minute to think she's going to put two and two together and realise what she's become (she was too busy looking at the fire and smoke before to really notice her own reflection in the car window).
>>
>>82891048
Considering that we know that conversion is instant, it's pretty strongly suggests that the mere presence of one mutant is enough.
>>
>>82890939
Kirbee with nails is so....weird
>>
>>82890763
Gee, the pillar impacted the car right where Wally, Kirbee and Chic would have to have been sitting if they were indeed in there...
>>
>>82891113
Then why she didn't mutated when she was with Ethel or way back when she encounter the first mutant?
>>
>>82891180
Uh....
Good point.
Why didn't she?
>>
>>82891120
I think the joke inherent in that picture is that she doesn't usually have them because they "blend in" - note the lack of them on the unpainted foot.
>>
>>82891200
I don't know, but Aaron said that we are gonna learn something interesting about the virus on the end of the arc. Maybe is the relation between when you enter in contact with a mutant and time you take to be infected
>>
>>82890763
>crashes the car into a cafe full of people
>any who survivors will mutate uncontrollably
When will Holly's killing spree end?
>>
>>82891346
Maybe mutants aren't infectious at all and it's something else.
>>
>>82891388
>When will Holly's killing spree end?
With Kirbee and Chick
>>
>>82890763
At least the car didn't blow up.
>>
>>82891200
One of the theories around here is that you have to have a critical mass of the virus, and that it's not really a virus but more some kind of demonic swarm thing that feeds on negative psychic emanations.

Lyn and Holly picked up a small dose of it when they encountered the woods beast. Holly then transferred it to the housewives. Ethel must have been stressed out from her lifestyle, or something, because she "bred" enough of the virus to mutate first. After she died her "colony" was dissipated into the environment because there wasn't a spare host near enough.

Holly mutated next, the trauma of the experience building up her viral load until it was enough for her and her baby to both mutate while she was sleeping.

Now, whatever else happened to it, the baby died and its viral colony found itself in need of a living host... and who walked in behind Holly? Lyn. Lyn got a baby-sized colony immediately, and the horror at what he was seeing was enough to kick it into overdrive and trigger an immediate transformation.

After Lyn's death, the viral colony probably glommed onto Holly out of desperation until the combined colonies sensed a major trauma source right near her - Doc. The fact that "spare" virus in Holly was enough to immediately trigger transformation saved his life.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next. If the people in the cafe start mutating immediately, I'll consider this theory less likely.
>>
>>82891393
Many people here has the theory that is not a virus at all
>>
>>82891477
A less convoluted explanation would be that Lyn and Holly were Typhoid Marys.
>>
>>82891631
That's just cut down. They technically were Typhoid Marys if they came into that Hillside community with a latent viral load, it just brings up the question of why the Marys we've seen lately have taken so long to mutate. Low stress reactions? Particularly strong sense of identity/morphic field?
>>
>>82891477
>>82891492
Probably shit on the level of Eye.
Not eye himself, since he saw the mutations as requiring purity by flame, but some cosmic shit going on
>>
>>82891492
I've heard that; care to elaborate?
>>
>>82891492

But if it's not a virus why does protective gear makes you immune to it?

I would hope Cthulhu power could beat a plastic suit.
>>
>>82891799
He did regard the mutants as his "wayward children", though, so I'm thinking the eatbeasts are the intended result and the anthros are a result of the "tweaking" of the "virus" by a third party...
>>
>>82891902
>But if it's not a virus why does protective gear makes you immune to it?
Because it makes you THINK you're immune to it.
>>
>>82891631
It has sense, Lyn and Holly were "inmune" in the sense that they wouldn't mutate until they find themselfs in a high stress situation, what they do
>>
>>82891902
If it's supernatural, it's either blocked by the same sort of stuff as a virus (ie: it's not completely ethereal) or it's warded off by a strong belief that you are immune or protected (which could explain the modern crop of Thyphoid Marys - if they got it into their heads that they're immune, and everyone else seems to confirm it, then that might work to halt the virus' effects.)
>>
>>82890963
Naww, I think it's just the Doc's gun wound.
>>
>>82891847
Apparently this is the work of a supernatural being, since there's no scientific explaination about how people can mutate into cartoony animals
>>
>>82892068
Also I'm pretty sure Aaron has said the Topsiders have never isolated the virus despite shitloads of dissections of anthros and typhoid marys and have no idea what it really is. This suggests it's not really a physical entity at all.
>>
>>82892138
Maybe is a mental condition?
>>
>>82892239
Reminds me of Discworld, where the way to change the shape of something is to alter its mind to truly believe that it is already that shape.

Seems like that would still need something novel to induce it, though, since mutation itself appears to be new.
>>
>>82892048
How'd it get over on the wall/pillar if Holly's just now dragging him out of the car?
>>
As the series edges closer to cosmic horror territory what if Eye turned out to just be a minor being and precursor to something worse?

I'm not too big on the idea Holly's the cause/carrier of all this, least of all blaming her for the goddamn epidemic. The virus seems to behave like there's at least some airborne range to it, even if great stress could cause it to trigger. Al's been sleeping wih Gustine and basically been by her side the whole time and he never changed. He certainly had enough anguish to trigger a mutation if that were the trigger, even before the comic proper began.
>>
>>82893967
>Al's been sleeping wih Gustine and basically been by her side the whole time and he never changed. He certainly had enough anguish to trigger a mutation if that were the trigger, even before the comic proper began.

We know there's something different about the Typhoid Marys. Possibly the aforementioned warding belief, or maybe they just don't emit the right kind of demon-food even when they're stressed (shades of Fry).

IMO that was not worth adding if he forgot to draw it the first time.
"Oh, i forgot to hint there were causalities on this crash" doesn't add anything of value to this page or the arc. We know billions died one way or another in this four days period already.
>>
So here's a question.

The Buddibombs attacked the snake lady on sight.
They attacked Lyn on sight too.
But they left Mutant Holly alone, even to the point of going around her to get at Lyn.
So uh.
Why is that?
>>

>The Buddibombs attacked the snake lady on sight.
They were triggered by Holly's fear rather than Ethel specifically.
>>
>>82898906

Maybe the like her?

There is also the point that they might be activated by screaming and prioritize by target size.
>>
>>82898906
They were synched up to Holly's biosigns. apparently turning into a mouse isn't enough to change those drastically enough they no longer recognize her. Ethel and her husband were targeted because of her fear of them, not just because they were mutants

>>82893079
Cute!
>>
>>82899415
>apparently turning into a mouse isn't enough to change those drastically enough they no longer recognize her
Even if they didn't recognize her, she probably had them close enough to let them recognize their 'new' owner since they were upstairs with her.
>>
>>82898799
I disagree. Without the blood , it would have been possible to play the crash off as being a 'best case scenario' kind of lucky, disaster free landing since nobody is directly shown getting killed or wounded. With the blood thowever, it becomes clear that Holly wasn't able to save herself and Doc without killing or maiming an indeterminate number of bystanders, which helps the depiction of the unfolding apocalypse as a rapid succession of deadly tragedy after deadly tragedy, and makes her own survival seem selfish as she racks up the body count on her way to safety.

I wouldn't say that it was a facade but more like she tried to change herself: find a opportunity to begin again helping people the same way she would wanted someone help her, and she did it but then you realize that actually she was projecting many of her insecurities with the persons she helped implying that Holly, to be the new Holly(the one in Endtown) the Holly she wanted to be, had to ignore all the shit that happened to her to achieve it creating his own person again.

But then, like always happens, the past caught her and the new Holly found herself with the old one bringing back all the fears and guilty she had.

Pretty much a joke at this point to love him so much.

Though I will agree his faithfulness to Sarah is commendable, especially where he betrays the Topsiders to find out the secret of mutating to cure her cancer, then mutates alongside her just because he loves her.
>>
>>82907175

Jim personality wise was admirable for sheer dedication and well a bit of straight thinking. He knew Topsider game is rigged. He knew way too much to be a normal desk jobber so I actually think he was one of the upper echelon guys. I genuinely think he wasn't all that bad after he realised that playing for the wrong party will get him nowhere. He just bet on the wrong woman.

Free roaming through the maps of all 3 games is really fun.

Well, that's interesting. The fact that he had to go back and de-ambiguate it suggests that the next page would have left it ambiguous, so Holly might be pulling Doc straight out the door and down the stairs before she can see the carnage through the smoke, if she has the strength.

Do remember once again, though, that this is still nothing more than Holly's impression of what happened. If her memories of this time have been stewing in guilt for eight years, she might be remembering this stuff more disfavourably to herself than it really was.

If she does hang around to see what she did (or remembers having done), however, her reaction to it will be educational...
>>
>>82898225
I think she realises she's smaller, but I don't think she really understands what she is yet. IIRC there weren't any blood streaks near the bathroom mirror in those bathroom scenes, so the closest she's come to a clear look at herself is the car window reflection, and as remarked, she was a bit distracted.

I has a run in with Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh and they all laugh at his small spread of destruction and chaos.

Or maybe it was done on purpose to show that the history has his incoherences, I just speculating here

She has, believe me

>>82908790
You think the act of editing the comic is some kind of meta-storytelling itself? But not everyone would know that that page was edited.
>>
>>82908893
Like I said: if just some dumb speculation, feel free to ignore it
>>
>>82908519
It'd be nuts if, in the midst of all this carnage, we get one touch of humour:

>This page makes us think she squished a man gorily.
>Next page the guy at the table is sitting on the floor looking at a crushed paper cup with a big black splat pattern around it, inches from his entirely-intact body. In the background, black drips from the fender.
>Muttering numbly
>"They... they killed my short black..."

Sorry Jamil & I didn't post more today; we're working on a little something something for Aaron and that's eating up the free time. More fresh content soon, promise.

Calling it now, Endtown ends with the collapse of all realities, and the universe reboots into a more stable configuration where anthros are, incidentally, a thing from day one. Aaron starts a new comic: Wally Walechinski, P.I.
>>
>>82912686

given how Aaron reuses some of his old characters, it wouldn't not surprise me if his next comic involves some of endtown characters.
>>
>>82912686
>Wally Walechinski, P.I.
>It's a continuation of The Daily Grind
>Marx still appears in it
>>
>>82912862

I hope so. Better them than his college-era stuff.

Kind of want a picture of a shot of a busy street from Wally: PI, now.

Wally cruising the streets, Holly looking distressed, standing outside his office, Lil' Marx as a newspaper kid - add Walt, Dottie and a bunch of others doing vaguely noirish things and that's actually highly-appealing.
>>
>>82913038
Why he made the Wally detective in first place? If memory fails me I think it was a commission, the point is that we need more pictures of that universe, it really sounds like something cool
>>
>>82906473

He was a good foil for Wally and Holly.

Like Peter.

It's an Eastern euro name, usually it's because of a knight with the same name.
>>
>>82912862
>Wally is a PI
>He does poorly because people think dogs are better dicks.
>He muscles in any job that involves Jacob and tries to ruin him.
>"Why do you hate Jackrabbit?"
>"I don't know, actually. Something about his face makes me very angry."
>>
>>82914025
>He later meets the police chief Flask
>They always fight
>"What's your problem with me Wally?"
>"Being honest Flask, I don't know, I just feel that you are not to trust but look I don't have time for this, I already have enough problems with that homeless guy Mallard who always yells me every morning about how I've stolen something that belongs to him"

You read it as Pyotr, you yelping, yelling, yellow-bellied uneducated dolts. It's still off but at least it's close.

It's Latin based, you read "i" almost as you'd read "e" in your silly romano-germanic post Shakespearian proto-esperanto language. Like in the word pious.

Your kind is why they bastardized Colossus' name in the original X-Men movies. It still makes me angry. Thank god for Deadpool.

So uhh.
Where.
Where's this "weight gain fetish" art Aaron used to draw that I've just heard about?
>>
>>82919195

If you've noticed, he was the first topsider in-comic to realize he was playing for the losing team. And that anyone that didn't fit topsider standards would've been killed as they were a drain of resources.

He was also knowledgeable making me think he wasn't so low in hierarchy

Was just writing a reply to you in that thread and it'd archived by the time I hit submit. So no go I'm afraid.
Anyway, nah the guy you were replying to wasn't me, and I didn't know it was a touchy subject so apologies. Given there's a (probably-unintended) tinge of fetish to Endtown's appeal anyway I figured it was no big deal and we could banter about such things openly.
>>82920301
What? Fuck no where'd you get that from? I learnt that before I even got into weird shit myself. It simply sounded like one of those see-it-to-believe-it curiosities, like whasisface's inflation art, albeit much, much tamer. Not that I'd compare Aaron to him in any other respect.
>>
>>82920534
>It simply sounded like one of those see-it-to-believe-it curiosities, like whasisface's inflation art, albeit much, much tamer.
I dunno, it just doesn't sound surprising enough to be "see-it-to-believe-it" material moreso than any other information from the internet that you should probably validate before you accept it as fact.
Not saying you're in the wrong for trying to find evidence of it, just that I think "absurd" isn't a good way to describe the idea of it.
>>
>>82911474
That'd be pretty cool. At the end it turns out it was an author whose friends with Wally and holly who wrote the spinoff.
