I prefer PC. I enjoyed her arc. Going from being career-driven but terrified of ending up alone and consequently pursuing one destructive relationship after another to letting go of her fear, embracing that loneliness, and becoming focused and purposeful after BTFO'ing that rabbit cunt

Still really excited for season 3. I need more Bojack Horseman in my life.

The best moment of any episode was probably in S1EP11 with Bojack breaking down in front of Diane trying to reaffirm himself that he's a good person deep down.

>Tell me that I'm a good person
>Tell me that it's not to late for me

That episode still makes me tear up because it hit so close to home for me.
>>
>>82885317
hearing Harper giggle in the background really got me

Bojack is an insipid 21st century version of Dostoevsky's Underground Man.

An individual who simultaneously despises his fellow man yet longs for their admiration. A man convinced that his intelligence both makes him superior to yet more worthless than his peers. A self-defeating egoist. A paradoxical creature.

But whereas Dostoevsky's Underground Man was a brilliant critique of 19th century enlightenment thinkers who believed that reason & logic would elevate man above his own nature, Bojack is a uninspired knock-off. Bojack is tailored to an adolescent audience who feels woefully unfulfilled by its material advantages. Children who lack nothing except happiness. Who deny themselves nothing yet find it all equally ineffectual to assuage their guilt for being so unhappy Bojack gives a trite articulation to their feelings of insecurity and want of self-actualization. He is rich beyond their wildest dreams, inexplicably successful in his pursuits and a ladykiller to boot In short, everything a secularized 21st century man has been raised to believe is worthwhile to strive for in life except happy. A unhappiness that stems from pathologically keeping his desires beyond his reach. He is a masturbatory fantasy for the self-faggellatory spiritless college-aged crowd who found in him an 'artistic depth' they can attribute to their own meaningless lives.

>ladykiller

When? He fucks chicks because he's rich and they like the idea of getting with a celebrity. If not for that I think he'd be between average and poor with women.

>He is a masturbatory fantasy

I like Bojack but I don't want to be him. I'd take finding pleasure in my old hobbies over being rich any day.

Everything else is pretty spot on, even if you do sound like a bit of a wanker.
>>
>>82885202
>>82885254
how can a person be so horrible, yet you still want them to be happy?
>>
>>82886027

Because deep down, every person has the potential be despicable and every time you think: "I am better than this.", you are merely one step away from becoming the monster you despise. Bojack is a pathetic "human" being, but so are we all, and that doesn't stop us from seeking happiness and wishing others find it as well.
>>
>>82886204
To think a cartoon about a talking horse can inspire such words
>>
>>82886027
Because we emphasize with his struggles. We've all felt like Bojack, we've all had those selfish moments, we've all hit personal lows (even if they aren't as low as Bojack's lows).

Because we think that if someone as terrible as Bojack can be happy, then maybe there's some hope for us.
>>
>>82886229

Heh, I'll take that as a compliment.

>Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter rumoured to have an affair in season 3
>>
I loved this show the first time I watched it, second time round I realized that there's just too much shit bogging it down.

It can't keep its tone consistent and it keeps jumping back and forth from incredibly depressing to shitty family guy humour. Yeah we had that episode where Bojack almost sleeps with his friend's daughter but then the season finale was a stupid joke about a standup comedy cult.

Hopefully Season 3 will drop a ton of those shitty jokes
>>
>>82886532
The season finale was about him realizing that he can't be a total jerkass to every one who cares about him, because they will leave in the end

So he went to the last person who still actually liked him and told him how important he was for him

It's not as good an episode as Downer Ending or Escape from LA, but it feels like you sort of missed the point of it
>>
>>82886597

>but it feels like you sort of missed the point of it

Probably.

Kind of feels like it could have done without the whole improv storyline since it just feels like I'm watching a family guy episode. That shit isn't necessary.
>>
>>82886646
Yeah, they could've done literally anything to strain Todd and Bojack's relationship, it was such a strange direction to go, especially considering the general tone of the second season was more serious than the first.

I came up with a question about the show today. Was going to open a new thread with it but saw this one.

How does egg-laying animals work in the Bojack universe?
There are no hybrids as evidently shown by Charlotte's family, among a few other examples. How does that work if the mother is a bird and the father is a mammal? Does birdmom lay an egg that contains a bird or a mammal? Does she only lay an egg if it does contain a bird?

What if we change the genders. Does mammal-mom lay an egg if the child is a bird or does she give birth to a live baby bird right away?
>>
>>82889171
They are humans. They just look like animals.

BoJack, for example. He looks like a horse but his body is exactly like a human body, save for his skin and head, and I reckon every other character is like that too.
>>
>>82889237
There was a birdmom in one episode that had an egg in a baby carriage.
>>
Will we see Charlotte again? I want deer
>>
Two predictions.

Bojack's show after Horsin' Around was a reel show called America Will Laugh At Any Dumb Shit.

And Bojack will smother his mother with a pillow on her deathbed. But won't kill her.

it isn't a show i'd recommend to everyone.

honestly, i think the main appeal is to unhappy people who hate themselves. bojack is easy to relate to on that front.

I think the point of calling him a lady killer is that he can go into just about any given bar and walk out with a fuck partner for the night, and can probably get into a romantic fling just as easily. "Lady killer" isn't a term generally used for somebody that's any good at relationships, just at getting laid, which describes Bojack, regardless of why chicks are fucking him, whether it be for status or something else. His problem with women is that he can't stay in any kind of meaningful relationship for long.

Also I'm pretty sure he's hung like a horse and every woman in Hollywoo knows it.

>>
I liked it but the depressing feelsy cartoon trend is getting fucking annoying.
>>
>>82899903
If you're watching it for the comedy you are doing it wrong. It's when people realize it's not funny and has something else to offer that people end up liking it. That doesn't happen until more episodes in, though. But, at least for me, those first episodes gained a bit more depth after a rewatch after finishing the whole thing.
>>
>>82903917
Bojack isn't feelsy depressing. It's just downright hardcore depressing. No matter how high you climb, you will end up nowhere.
>>
>>82905569
God you're dense. Do you even read? You must be an imbecile if that's what you take from the show.

Bojack is unhappy not because life is shit and there's nothing redeeming in it, but because of he pathologically desires only what is beyond his reach. He doesn't count his blessings, he laments his unfulfilled wants. He is perpetually dissatisfied because he refuses to accept reality when it deviates from his fantasies. He wants to eat his cake and have it too, and every time he sees a chunk missing in that cake (that is to day his idealized life) after he takes a bite (brings his dreams into reality), he throws the whole thing into the air.

Bojack isn't depressed because life is so bad. He's depressed because he refuses to come to terms with reality. Because he is UNWILLING to be satisfied with what he has and prefers instead to dwell on what he can't.
>>
>>82906204
you dont have to be a dick about it
>>
How does such a good show make so manh missteps? Season two was great but dropped so many plot lines for that stupid Ricky Gervais cat episode. The show is best when it focouses on serialized dramatic plots with comedic dialogue versus wacky sitcom episodic plots, I hope for a more consistent season this time around.
>>
>>82886532
>shitty family guy humour.
I love the show, but I do agree that for the most part, it really isn't all that funny. I watch it for the character drama and character development first and foremost. It's what got me through it in the first place. Whenever it tried to be really funny, it was just like, "No, go back to the dramatic bits." Though there are some good gags here and there and every once in a while, I'd chuckle at something. But I feel like its sense of humor really is way too "Family Guy" if that makes sense. I'd like it more if the humor just tried to do its own thing instead of aping that modern sense of humor.

I never got that feeling, and any riffing on pop culture or topical events makes sense since the show takes place in Hollywoo.

>any riffing on pop culture or topical events makes sense since the show takes place in Hollywoo.
That's a good point and like I said, some of the jokes are humorous. But I feel like almost none of the jokes are drop-dead funny either and with a lot of the jokes, you get a sense that you've heard them before, so they don't have the same impact.

i think the show has kind of earned the right to make jokes about similar subject matters to shows like family guy with how well it handles actual serious scenes. i don't know if that makes any sense, but it just kind of allows you to more easily enjoy the jokes presented when you actually care about what's happening to the people involved.
plus, some of them are pretty great on their own.

I'd love a new action cartoon that actually took itself seriously. But I also want something like Bojack Horseman but with a protagonist who wasn't famous and more of a loser like me. And I mean an honest to god loser, like that would be one of the major points of the show, with the MC being unable to get his shit together in his mid-20's, unable to find a romantic partner, stuff like that.

It's fumbling for something most US animation isn't given a chance to attempt. Venture Bros. and King of the Hill are the nearest analogues, and while they have more consistent quality they don't go this far afield this often when it comes to tone.

Like I can see it falling flat, but I'm inclined to view it charitably anyway.

/tg/ foams at the mouth when presented with furries. At least when it's not being furry itself. Episode:
Escape from LA

Moment:
PB creating a bogus scenario that would let Diane go back to him with her dignity intact on the fly during the season 2 finale.

Character:
Princess Carolyn. She's hardworking and noble enough to sympathize with, but does enough skeevy shenanigans so that when hilarity is inflicted upon her, it is okay for me to laugh

@82922709

No (You) 4 u. If Bojack were female it'd play out pretty much the same, except he'd probably be being voiced by someone like Rebecca Bunch. Just because you don't watch them doesn't mean there are no shows with female characters being comedic neurotic wrecks.

Can they just annonce a date for season 3 already
>>
>>82925723
Yes, the first episode. Where the show was gaining it's footing. And I still didn't get any full on Family Guy vibes, except maybe the opening scene with Bojack being drunk and interviewed.

"Why don't sad people just, like, BECOME happy?" is every bit as stupid as "why don't poor people like GET more money?"

I would've hit it. No hesitation.

The entire character of Bojack is someone who WILLFULLY denies himself happiness because he prefers to dwell on what he CAN'T have rather than count his own blessings.

If you had the capacity for examination you would realize that Charlotte is Bojack's foil. She gave up the fantasies of fame & fortune for the attainable and she is rewarded with contentment. Bojack on the other hand refuses to let go of the unattainable and therein stems his depression. He lives in a hell of unsatisfied desires and it is entirely his own fault.
>>
>>82927530
Underground Man isn't the name of the book.

It's "Notes from the Underground".
>>
>>82927971
I still think he can pull himself up out of all that. It'll take time, and be a painful process, but the show seems to be building to it, in my opinion. Even when Bojack acknowledges that working on the movie, and the eventual play, will only bring him temporary happiness, he's still ultimately less self destructive than when the show first started.

Bojack is growing as a person slowly, him finally being truly vulnerable to Todd showed this

I want that same vulnerability when Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter let that tension build up into drunk hate fucking. If that happens I will be a happy anon.

i like to think that bojack horseman takes place in the same world as endtown, just a few thousand years later

And there he is again. The exact same guy who manages to show up to every single Bojack thread to insult both the show and the viewers because "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE". Wonder if he's gonna give us the "Rich people actually can't be sad because ???" speech again? Or if he's gonna talk about how bad each episode is while displaying his obsessive knowledge of the show again, because he really, seriously doesn't like the show, for real guys!

I ask again, don't you have a cape thread to be complaining in?
>>
>>82927999
Ah, that'll make it easier to find. Thankyou.
