Funny thing is that everyone's mixed on Superman being way too dark while Optimus Prime's development, wonky and unplanned as it was, is pretty interesting to slowly turn away from the fair war hero character that he is for most of his incarnations into a really tired soldier of war who had been betrayed by both his mentors and the humans, as well as his kind. Way I see it, we'll see one of three characters pop up - Alpha Trion, Vector Prime, or Star Saber. Money's on Alpha Trion right now, but in the end they would all serve the same role - to be Optimus Prime's "Merlin".
Meanwhile, Galvatron is back on Earth and there's no Prime. Galvatron was made to be a "new, better" version of Prime the same way Stinger was of Bumblebee. My guess is he'll fake Prime coming back and use that to fuck with the Autobots while Optimus is away.
Back in space, Prime and the new guy will confront the Quints/Primacron/whoever and find out some crucial part about the transformer past.
Past that I'm not sure. Bay's kind of weird in terms of the stories he uses for these movies, so it's hard for me to say, outside of the fact that the battle will somehow end up in a major earth city and that there will be approximately squintillion bad jokes and dialogues written in between the explosions and Prime's speeches. The plot will be flimsy and half baked and the transformer's true origin either won't be revealed or it will and it will be the dumbest Transformers origin yet.
Also they'll find a way to work in either Unicron, Jhiaxus, or mayyyyyyybe the DJD (hey, they used Lockdown, didn't they?) either as the "final boss", or have them setup at the end as the next villain.
It will be dumb and we will roll our eyes and we will go to the theaters when we think nobody is watching and we will say it wasn't "as bad" as the others before we go back to hating Michael Bay the same way as we always have, right before we buy the blu-rays and fast forward to the explosions.

With the live action/CGI movies you also get adults going to see the movies. But if it was all animated then they'd think "It's for kids" and not go see it. The live action/CGI approach basically broadens the appeal, like how a lot of movie makers make their movies PG-13.
