The problems usually arrive because their development gets screwed up by trauma (like Cyclops or Rogue)
or their appearance is abnormal but still in keeping with their abilities (Nightcrawlers demonic themes, Angel's wings, Blindfold's not needing eyes)
or inherited from their parents' mutations (Mystique and Kurt's blue skin and yellow eyes, Magneto and Quicksilver's white hair)

Yeah but so long as he has his own motives or they create a method of remembering then he's fine. In fact the entire issue could probably be fixed by a simply writing down "we sent a guy, but his powers make it so you can't remember him, but we sent him." since that'd be outside the scope of his powers would it not. But he has to remember to move the note or else the X-men will sit on their asses thinking they sent a guy on a mission he's not even involved in.
