What things are associated with modern comics?
I think mostly of things like grimdark/max edginess, the faux-feminism movement, I don't know what else though. I'm not just talking about cape comics here either to be clear.

Grimdark was 80s, I think. Maximum edge was 00s, particularly the early part. The 90s were just...90s as fuck, for better or worse (lots of /co/ loves it; other parts of /co/ hate it).

Pretty much this.
EVERY series by EVERY publisher is decompressed now, and not even like "kind of" decompressed (3-4 issue arcs), but highly decompressed (5-6 issue arcs, if not increasingly longer).
It doesn't really allow people to form many definitive statements on anything writing-wise, since you can always say "well that's just *one* long arc, things might be better on the next long arc".

Digitalization, especially with regards to artwork. The way coloring is done digitally right now gives this era of comics their homogenous palette. See that guy who defended Frank Miller's artwork with his recolored versions. He might be a bit off with regards to Miller's artwork being genius, but it's on the right track with regards to the industry at large's attitude toward coloring.

This is definitely true though I don't know how much the general public actually cares about this. I know /co/ hates the shit out of it, but I don't see many other comic discussion places talk about decompression pretty much ever. Though to be fair, the general public - even or perhaps especially in the indie sphere - doesn't talk about much in general other than gender or other political stuff, more concerned with content rather than style.
At any rate, the sugar-coated way of phrasing decompression is "writing for trade" which is usually used by someone who has to praise decompressed writing for some reason (i.e. they're being paid to do so or are playing the ol' nepotism game). But that phrase is pretty telling because what that essentially means is that you're getting a heavily unedited piece of work that does what should be done in a single issue in the span of a trade instead.

Probably referring to Millar, Wildstorm, Ennis, post-9/11 Miller, Civil War and Ultimatum and that whole era of Marvel comics (though this could fall under Millar since these are kinda attributable to his rise in popularity), that sort of edge.
Though overall I'd agree 90s had its own kind of edge that was more bombastic and perhaps more extreme than the 00s and in any case is what influenced the above stuff in the first place.

I gotta admit that, as a new comic reader, coming from manga, decompression helped me getting into the medium. Old comics like Claremont' stuff or even some of the 90s stuff were kinda offputting.
But then again, rethinking back about it, manga series do like to take a lot of times to tell a story, goddammit.

Manga's a much easier read for current ongoings though because the rate of content production is multitudes higher. A lot of stories come out with a chapter every week while most comic books come out issue-by-issue monthly. So in the span of a year you're lucky to get two small arcs done while a manga story may also have only done a few arcs in the same amount of time, they're usually much meatier thanks to a far higher page count.

Modern comics decompress narratives and dialogues to basically "pat their runtime" for lack of a better word, but the action scenes and especially fights are still just as compressed as ever.
Which is a damn shame because if there's one thing cape comics should do well it's fights.

Most new people when they pick up modern comics don't see violence or feminism or sexism.
They wonder how anyone is supposed to enjoy 10 pages of story where nothing happens and wait another 6 months for one storyline to conclude.
Don't compare what people unfamiliar with comics in the world think about them to what you think about them; comics readers are a ridiculously small segment of the US population, with most comic book sales suggesting somewhere around less then even 1% of the people in the United States reading comics; the average person is the ACTUAL judge of what the world associates with comics, not the highly inbred and incestuous community created in the late 80's and 90's that only looks to, sees, associates, and is knowledgable about itself and no one or nothing else.
