did this traumatize him?
>>
>>82771984
Yes.
>>
>>82771984
He learned to stay true to himself, by watching himself die
>>
>>82771984
Apparently not because he still solves all his problems like a fucking pussy and consistently wins with his pacifist strategy of let's be friends. Only time characters can actually use violence in this series is if he's asleep.

The thing that gets me is how the Steven that disintegrates is the SAME Steven we've been with since the pilot. Everything moving forward has been with Steven 2.0. Quite the mindfuck.
>>
>>82771984
He got over it, in time.
>>
>>82772186

Not true. They're all the same Steven, just at different points in time.
>>
>>82772209
He literally got over it in 2 seconds. The show comically cut to a Josie and the Pussycats sequence of all the Gems singing with Steven in their band.
>>
>>82771984
FUCK YOU, I'M THE ORIGINAL STEVEN.
without me you'd be NOTHING.
>>
>>82772186
But episode 1 wasn't the pilot. Disintegrated Steven was the second Steven. Current Steven is the 3rd.
>>
>>82772287
I stand corrected. Nice catch.
>>
So, is there just a bunch of timelines where Steven is just gone and the Crystal Gems are just in a Permanent state of despair?
>>
>>82772278
He was traumatized while he was singing. Pearl looked concerned for him, it was part of the scene.

It's not so much concern as it is comedic timing. It's almost the equivalent of a double take. Literally OP's gif is the only visible moment of him being traumatized, then it cuts to a happy music festival and it's forgotten all about of for the remainder of the series.

Fuck, even Morty was affected more by seeing his dead self than Steven was. Morty actually mentioned it in later episodes.

Jesus fuck.
It's a show for kids.
There's a message in that shit.
There's more than one way to solve a problem.
You can't just punch your way through life, you literal animal.
Fuck yourself.
>>
>>82772730
>It's a show for kids.
>There's more than one way to solve a problem.
>You can't just punch your way through life, you literal animal.
Where 90% of the backstory is "the main characters were in a war". Sorry your favorite artist is a hack who only ever goes as far as to mention fighting but doesn't have the balls to have Steven actually do anything beyond hugging and crying because "he's based on muh brother".
>>
>>82772730
If your message us we should all just be friends and fighting never solves anything, then you just have a shitty message.

>Reminder that without fighting and war, Rebecca Sugar would never even be allowed to get her own show because women would still be fighting for equal work opportunities.
>>
>>82772592
It's comedic, but it's still a scene where Pearl looks at Steven as he sings about watching himself die, which is an acknowledgment that someone dark happened to him and he's affected by it. The concert scene looks happy but it has a dark undercurrent, that's the point.
>>
>>82772802
>>82772780
Malachite and Alexandrite just beat the crap out of each other the first episode of the season though.
>>
>>82772911
Which all literally goes back to:
>>82772104
Because again, "muh brother".

>>82772898
>The concert scene looks happy but it has a dark undercurrent, that's the point.
And literally builds nothing for the character. It's forgotten about like some random slice-of-life episode. He doesn't grow as a character because of it or actually get affected by it. So the dark undertone is completely pointless because it serves no use for character development. It's more of a passing joke of "Look, he's singing dark lyrics, but happy!" than an actual hit-the-fan moment of "holy shit".
>>
>>82771984
This would traumatize a person far more than being in a war, that memory of you dying right in front of you, you dying you becoming nothing it would freak you the fuck out for years.
>>
>>82773050
I don't know, to me the fact that he pushes through that kind of thing even if it disturbs him is part of his character. Being happy-go-lucky is Steven's coping mechanism. People react differently to trauma.
>>
How the fuck are you retards still complaining about this?

Steven has max Charisma. That's how he solves all his problems. The fact that Peridot and Lapis became so reliant on him so quickly, and why the Crystal Gems listen to what he says now points to just how strong a personality he has.

He fucking talked down a being comprised of millions of shattered, tortured souls in a couple minutes.

If you don't believe in Steven, gtfo.
>>
>>82773608
Nerf charisma, buff defense
>>
>>82773899
Why bother training defense when you can charm someone to want to defend you?

The most powerful aren't the strongest. The most powerful are those truly smart enough to use their charisma to control others, and be liked for it.

Steven is just lucky that his natural charisma already covers most of what he'll need to be the King Gem. The rest he'll learn over the series.
>>
>>82771984
What anime is this scene referencing?
>>
>>82774817
Probably nothing, although apparently it's similar to something in Jojo
>>
>>82772841
There's plenty of fighting in SU. Often it sets up Steven to use his literal weaponized empathy (as shown in the last episode) to finish the battle.

The message is that fighting doesn't solve all your problems. It can be a useful tool but it isn't everything and you can't always rely on it to actually win the peace, or that looking for another path sometimes pays dividends in ways that fighting couldn't.
>>
Holy shit spoiler those Jojo leaks.
>>
>>82774997
It's the catchphrase of one of the "Protag's Partner Who Gets Killed Brutally."
>>
>>82772780
>having such need for violence in media to assure your belief system

are you okay anon, do you need to talk?
>>
>>82776183
>Being this deflective and snarky as if that makes criticism not valid.

Sorry you think a show where the main character solves all his problems by making friends is somehow good entertainment. That's literally pre-schooler status of garbage. Give Steven a younger voice, he'd fit right on board with the cast of the Wonder Pets.

Solving problems diplomatically and only resorting to violence as a last resort is the best kind of story, and anyone who says otherwise is an uneducated fool.

Actually the timing of her look was after he mentioned the alternate timeline. The realization of what he had done or perhaps that he was flippantly aware of it is what concerned her.

>>
>>82773156
Not just you dying in front of you, but MULTIPLE you's dying in front of you.

It's horrible, but I love the idea that there are now several branch alt universes where at some point over the course of that short period of time, Steven disappeared, never to be seen again. Slight variations butterfly effect into more drastically different universes as time goes on, but the constant in all of them is Pearl completely losing her mind.
>>
>>82774336
This. No matter how strong he makes his hands, they could never be as strong as the thousands of hands that will defend him and strike down any who would do him harm.

Charisma is not a dump stat.
>>
>>82781880
Didn't Meanie Zucchini Steven pull an Owlman and destroy all of those timeline?

Wait, isn't that a paradox? If Steven never uses the Orb, he would have never traveled back to destroy it.

That's objectively false, off the top of my head here's a few best stories that say fuck diplomacy and let's shoot some fuckers.
>Sicario
>Fargo
>Pulp Fiction
>Orginal Star Wars
>The Odyssey
>The Three Musketeers where they just straight up hang the villain at the very end
Ect, ect, ect. All the best works involve fighting.

Don't assume things for the sake of seeming smart.
You don't know anything about trauma or war.
>>

there are an infinite number on parallel universes, including one where steven and pearl married, and one where both were killed by the gem centipede from the first episode

Those are fictional stories.
Unless you solve all of your own personal problems through violence.
>>
>>82784269
>Those are fictional stories
No shit, since when have we been talking about anything else

And before you go
>but what about non fiction stories
>Band of Brothers
>The Recolutionary War
>Napoleon's march across the Alps
>Waterloo
>The Great Raid
>The 300 Spartans and their last stand at Thermopylae
Ect, ect, ect.

This isn't to say diplomacy doesn't have a place, but to say it's unnecessary or that it doesn't make for great stories is fucking retarded.
>>
>>82772841
Do you think that women literally punched people for equal rights?
>>
>>82784563
Well, all the Chinese classics are moral treatises on the right order of state and family.
And among the most valued writings was a discussion between a government representative and Confucian scholars on the matter of monopolies on iron and salt during the Han dynasty.
