Are the Mirage turtle comics any good? Only familiar with the toons.
>>
If you're only familiar with the toons, then just keep in mind that the 2003 toon started off as a very watered down, kid-friendly version of the original comics. Out of all the toons, that's probably the one that's closest to the original comics (particularly the first 3 seasons), but the comics were still more grown-up (and more 80s comics-ish, natch).

That being said, during volume 1, there was a period of time where the comic became a chaotic mess of a mixed bag, because Eastman and Laird handed the comic off to nobodies to write and draw while they went off and took care of all the business stuff from the sudden popularity of the 1987 cartoon. But they ended up coming back to the comic and making it consistently good again.

The IDW comic is pretty great if you want to get into the comic and you're not just thinking about getting into one incarnation.

this is extremely true

i was wondering about that era of the comics, i heard weird shit. i guess it was passed through several authors.. almost like an anthology. also, much as it was bad, back to the sewer doesnt belong in the same tier as fast forward.. and 3rd movie was... i mean.. not that bad.

i guess this list was made before the new movies and show. which i would put solidly in the last one
>>
>>82775079
I like the first couple seasons of the 2012 show, actually. Making Leo an actually fun character was a good move.
>>
>>82775079
Yeah, I think it was made before the IDW comic and Nick cartoon, also the 2014 movie. I'm guessing IDW and Nick would fall in The enjoyable part. Some people might put Nick in the "the enjoyably stupid" part though? I am tossing between enjoyable stupid for 2014 but it probably belongs in the The just plain stupid part. But I do think the new movie will be better.

I only saw some of the first season of the 2012 show. I had to stop because Mikey was a complete short-bus riding retard and not even Master Splinter had any respect for him. I don't know his characterization gets any better later on, but what I saw was enough to convince me to stop watching.

I'm pretty sure that 2012 Mikey has severe untreated ADHD or something, it's really the only explanation. The other characters in the early seasons are consistently great though.

Read the IDW Mirage collections. They filter the filler bullshit to just the the Eastman/Laird issues so you don't have to suffer through a huge amount of filler that ran from #22-48.

Just don't expect Krang (just the Ultoms, his species) to show up, Shredder only makes three appearances, and Ralph gets shoved down your throat endlessly as the face of the franchise while Mikey is emo scum. Oh and Baxter Stockman is a loser black guy and not the God-tier white villain/Cronenberg freak, April's not a reporter but Baxter's flunky who runs a junk shop on the side (and for the first two years, she's a mulatto with a bad perm before she gets race flipped to be white), and shit with Casey Jones being a cuck for an ex-mafia princess and raising her daughter and getting pissy when her bio-grandfather rightfully tries to get custody of the brat
>>
I have a few questions I hope can be answered
did IDW reprint all of the turtle soup comics yet its hard to tell when every site mentions shell shocked and I do not know if they were all in that.

Are they going to reprint everything in black and white? I do not mind the color versions just liked the black and white better.

Will they reprint volume 3? they seem to have permission seeing as how they reprinted an issue for the 30th anniversary.

Have the reprinted the fugitoid mini?

sorry about this I just want to own them instead of reading them online
>>
>>82776010
it has a few good aspects yeah

TMNT III had CPR, and i can't decide if that was a great thing that helped make the movie more serious, or a terrible thing because it was done by a turtle.

14 Turtles are definitely just stupid. 12 Turtles are a mixed bag. First two seasons were good, season 3 was hit or miss, and season 4 was trash. The only really good episode from the "Turtles in Space" arc was the turtles forever 2 episode, and that wasn't even in space!

>>
>>82782079
Best we can do is hope, honestly.
From what I've seen, the only BW reprints are the 6 big ass hardcovers.
In all honesty, even original Mirage printings of most of the other stuff isn't expensive at all. Nothing above #10 should cost more than $3-5 at most.
the Fugitoid one shot had at least 2 printings. 1st is oversized (like 1sts of TMNT 1-4) and can go for a pretty penny, but 2nd print (regular comic sized.) shouldn't be much over $10.
Hunt around, you'll find the stuff for decent pricing in shop. Just avoid places like ebay or milehigh's online shop.
>>
>>82782552
yeah the second one usually cost around 8 bucks, but I rather get it in a collection for 20 instead I do hope they release the rest in black and white though just for fun

I also think I am the only one who liked volume 4, I thought it fit decently with how insane it was just like vol 1

I don't remember Mikey being "emo scum" at all. He's definitely a lot more serious and fleshed out than he is in any of the cartoons or movies, though, but he's not so different that he's emo.

If I had to use any words to describe comic Mike, it'd be down to earth, carefree, fun-loving, playful, sociable, laid-back and contemplative. He's the one that's most fascinated/interested in the outside world, he likes writing, and he has the biggest heart out of the four of them.
>>
>>82782160
Ya, not all the non-E&L issues were bad. There were a lot of terrible ones, but there were a lot of good ones, too. Eastman and Laird got tied up with the business side of things so the Mirage comic sort of got weird when they weren't looking. The stories got very disjointed and even more "Indy" feeling. A lot of it was good. One issue would be weird and almost Swamp Thing levels of dark/thoughtful. Then the next issue would be some kind of goofy space adventure with cartoony art.

The second volume of the Mirage run was pointless. It meandered and was pretty boring.

The third Mirage volume was weird as fuck. Sweeping status quo change. Earth becomes an intergalactic hub world. Raph spends most of the time as a vampire/dinosaur. It's revealed that April is a living drawing made from the same magic pencil Kirby had in Donatello's solo waaay back in the day. All around stupid.

I don't get that level of vitriol for TNM. It wasn't great or anything, but it wasn't infuriatingly terrible. Guy who made those rec lists here, and you're all right on the money. I held off on adding the cartoon at the time, simply because I hadn't seen it and still haven't and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to update it after those stupid addendums.

That said, I would like to have a go at starting the whole thing from scratch
>>82790734
>shave it bald on the sides and dye the top orange!
... Do I even need to say it?
>>82791150
It holds a special place in my heart, simply because it was the first movie I saw with my older brother after he got back from two years in New Zealand on his gap year; the scenes where Leo was reunited with his family struck a chord in me.

Silly, really, but there it is.
>>82791774
I've no objection for changing the status quo, but the way Laird did it was so bloody odd. "Good ideas, bungled execution" sums that whole comic far too well.

But hey, we got Tales of The TMNT v2 and the 2003 cartoon out of it, so ultimately it was a net gain.
>>
>>82772830
yes at least they cast April O'Neil as April O'Neil though

I think vol 4 was alright it fit what I always saw the mirage tmnt as, crazy stuff happening remeber that in vol 1, they fought ninjas in issue 1 robots in 2 utroms aliens in 4 crazy casey in the raphael mini, and then space till issue 8

The controls were awful and non-responsive and despite being touted as an anniversary game, the roster only had characters from the 2003 cartoon and the CGI movie. The fuckton of Rayman Rabbids that have fuck all to do with TMNT being shoved into the game just made it more unbearable. There was so much wasted potential with this game.
>>
>>82800410
Ben Bates is definitely the best TMNT artist. The way he draws the Turtles themselves just FEELS like the TMNT to me. Plus, he makes the humans actually look good.

The absolute worst TMNT artist, though, is Jim Lawson. He was pretty good during volume 1, especially City at War, but his later stuff (like during volume 4) is absolutely atrocious. It's like his art progression went backwards or some shit.

I can't hate Lawson. He made so many tmnt comics.

Hey! He's my favorite...
>>

wait, what? Shit I've been planning to swap out my single issues with the IDW reprints.
>>
>>82804401

So far they've only skipped the issues where they go to the Middle East.

Cuz, ya know, Muhammad.
>>
>>82776224

lol they got the porn star of the same name. That's great.
>>
>>82804439
Actually it looks like they skipped the issues where they go to Tibet.

Cuz, ya know. China.
>>
>>82804439
>>82804536
They went to Israel too. Maybe IDW already reprinted that part.
>>
>>82804627
It looks like they skipped 32-36. I'm missing 35, but 36 is the first appearance of Verminator-X and the Time Slips. That's pretty important to skip.
>>
>>82790582
Because they're usually made by fans of the series.
>>
>>82791150
I liked it though it was stupid they banked on there being a sequel to put Shredder in instead of just having him in from the get go.
>>
>>82791150
I thought it was okay. It's nothing special and the plot is slow as balls, but the Raph vs. Leo fight was top-tier.
>>
>>82804690
they better have reprinted the hitler issue
>>
>>82808397
They have reprinted the first 50 issues minus issues 14, 15, 17, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 I guess. Hitler was in issues 62-64 if I remember well.

am I the only one who wants a sequel to out of the shadows? I think a sequel with more polished would be great, I mean I am happy we are getting a platinum made turtle game and hope it gets a sequel but I think when you ignore the horrible glitches out of the shadows was a decent 15 dollar game
>>
>>82809452
That's the cut version.
>>
>>82809466
Yep it was a cool game. I was hoping for DLC with new levels but that won't happen...
>>
>>82809640
I think it would be cool if activision just did a back and forth thing with platinum and red fly, I would not mind if they reused assets if they always doubled the content. especially because I want them to finally reach the triceratons

so will they ever reprint the image comics

Yes.

As far as TMNT comics go, the best of the best is the original Eastman/Laird run and the current IDW series.

There's a few comics that fill out the B-tier, but my personal favorite is the Tristan Jones run from Tales of the TMNT. He took a very back-to-basics approach with his run, making it almost entirely street-level. It's basically the first live action movie with a harder edge. And yes, it's just as awesome as it sounds.

Can't wait for the game

It sucks.
There is literally just 30 minutes of Casey and April sex. And it's kind of boring sex on top of that. Movie had so much potential, and they did nothing with it.

The Sponge Bob porno worked simply because the actors truly stayed in character throughout the entire thing. That alone makes it okay in my book.

This just really makes me wish that Saban had outsourced the fighting footage and monster designs to Toei for the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation or whatever it was called, instead of using their even shittier home-brew crap. Seeing the Turtles running from those not-Splinter knock-offs firing lasers at them into that quarry makes me nostalgic for old '80s tokusatsu shows and now I'm sad that I'll never get to see a decent late '80s/early '90s Ninja Turtles tokusatsu jointly created and made by Toei and whoever would hold the rights (Saban, Mirage, New Line, etc). Never gonna see live-action Turtles with perma-grimaces jumping around explosions in an abandoned Japanese quarry battling Japanese OC monsters.

I have played the Palladium tabletop RPG, and it's pretty rough to play, mostly because it's Palladium. It came out before the cartoon show (in fact, it came out when the original comic was only 4 issues in!) so it's mostly serious and missing a lot of iconic characters that hadn't been invented yet. The cartoon killed its popularity, since tabletop gamers at the time didn't want something they considered for kids.

Anyway, because my friends insist on keeping the campaign going, I have been progressively adding house rules to make it more playable. The best part is probably randomly rolling for species and background at character creation. I can describe what's been happening if anyone wants.

Nigga, I played that back in the eighties. Except I just came up with a bastardization where everyone were in gangs, wielded guns, and wreaked havoc. Basically GTA: The RPG.

Due to randomly rolling for species, the party is an orangutan, a chimp, a porcupine, a wolf, a quail, and a giant non-humanoid psychic sparrow. (Due to the quirky way character creation works, nobody is anthropomorphic by default. You have to spend points on things like humanoid speech, hands, and walking on two legs. One player decided to instead spend all her points on being enormous and having psychic powers.)

The campaign is set in 1991, and the PCs are members of the Moreau Institute, sort of the mutant animal version of the X-Men, founded by the survivors of the island of Dr. Moreau and operating in secret behind a front corporation to advance mutant interests. Evidence of the existence of mutant animals has reached the public, including a mutant who got a scholarship to NYU, but the PCs, the Turtles, and most other mutants are still secret. There's currently a nasty four-way rivalry between the Moreau institute, the Foot, TCRI/the Utroms, and a brotherhood of ninja truckers called the Red Riders. Everyone hates everyone else and is trying to gain a monopoly on the ooze.

The players have displayed a total inability to operate with any kind of stealth. On their first mission, they took a completely meaningless detour to visit a miniature railroad and ended up killing two cops. Currently the quail has been forced out of his position of leadership by a party vote of no confidence, the wolf is imprisoned by their tortoise sensei, and the porcupine seems to have defected to the Foot. They have also befriended a 50-foot-tall coconut crab.
>>
>>82826903
I had a go at converting the Bio-E to Savage Worlds a few years back. I even managed to get a campaign out of it... for three sessions.
>>
>>82829691
My players are unnaturally attached to the idea of the vitality/wounds system and rolling twice for every attack, so I've been trying to kick the Palladium system into working order for them.

Lawson is a mixed bag for me. I personally feel that Return to New York was the best art the turtles have ever had, but then I look at what he was doing in Vol 4 and want to vomit.
I think it's half the inker completely reworking the pencils, and an artist just "developing" a new style.

I think Lawson's art would be a lot easier to swallow if he had a colorist. The volume 4 story in IDW's 30th anniversary special was pretty solid.
