Hip dislocation is a minor injury in magic magic world

That being said, I imagine this is not Kit's first faceplant on these stairs, just the first time she isn't mentally and emotionally stable enough to laugh it off while Fredrich escorts/carries her to the infirmary.
>>
In times of great stress, people will mentally regress as a coping mechanism to stress.

Regression is a psychological coping technique, and Kit is throwing this tantrum to alleviate her emotions.

She'll get over it, but for the time being, she needs someone to mother her for a bit, and nurse her back to physical and mental health.

I don't think that's the case.

The imperial measurement system would be uselessly unintuitive in a world governed by animal people and the viewer wouldn't be able to get a distinct impression of scale just from the units if they were adapted from some royal animal family or whatever.

Metric system does not have these flaws.
It translates correctly to the real world regardless of the scale of the animal inhabitants and as such gives the reader a clearer image.
Moreover it's arguably more useful in a world where people can vary on such large scales since it's far easier to convert into arbitrarily large or small units and possesses a more universal standard.

Three days without sleep and sick, moving heavy boxes full of my things, while not having had breakfast, lunch, or dinner that day.
In my defense, I was under a lot of stress and due to some troubles in the family was faking being alright so I wasn't one more problem on everyone's minds.

I was talking to myself and starting to get hysteric. I don't mean like thinking out loud, I mean I went full fucking Gollum. I quite literally made myself cry, not by insults but by complaining to myself about all the shit I had to deal with, then started cackling afterwards.
Thank goodness I was alone.

I only even realized I was doing it when I had to go outside to move something to the car and said "I better keep it down, people are trying to sleep at-" (checked my phone) "-six o'clock in the morning? I should be getting ready for..." then realized what I had been doing all night.

I called in sick for work and asked for the next day too, then ate some bread with peanut butter and slept for close to about 18 hours, used the bathroom, ate a full sandwich, bathed and brushed my teeth, then slept another 18.

>>82751913
Sorry, thought an anecdote about how fucked up lack of sleep can get you was fitting.

Its like a checklist where every single thing about you just starts going wrong. Body, mind, emotions, self-awareness, inhibition, the whole deal.

Makes me wonder how many actors use it to improve their acting in certain roles. I know Kubrick fucked with Shelley Duvall and kept her up for like a solid week to make her really fritzed for the finale of The Shining, and I think Christian Bale did it for The Machinist to seem more broken down.
>>
Yeah, at some point Kit just had to break. Too much piled on her. She's been strongarmed into giving the mafia a ministerial position, her stepmother hates her, everyone thinks she's a failure, fuck, she herself thinks she's a failure, and she is in sharp pain and hasn't slept in three days and hurt her head. It was crying breakdown or straght up shutdown.

As for why it's such a loud crying... have you SEEN fennecs calling out? Those motherfuckers are SHRILL. That's just Kit crying like an anthro fennec would, ie, able to puncture eardrums at ten paces.
>>

It would certainly fuck you up. In my experience, being up for a few days straight puts you into a waking dream state. It's kind of hard to explain, but what I experienced is that my reality was like my dreams. In the sense that in a dream, absolutely everything makes sense. We can all understand that concept, right? You wake up and you wonder why and how in the fuck you were thinking of any of that, but at the time, it all made perfect sense. Teeth falling out and flying but only if you contort into weird positions, right? When I've been awake over the 48 hour mark, that starts to invade my reality. You just think stuff, and you no longer have an ability to make a distinction between your senses and your thoughts. You think about a bowl on a table and you see a bowl, and the bowl is "there". Your eyes tell you it isn't, but you aren't able to distinguish between internal thoughts projecting imagery, and your senses receiving imagery.

Oh, and this isn't something that's fun, so don't try it.

We have never had to deal with the stress of modern life. All the tech and responsibilities and the fast paced life is something we are completely incapable of dealing with. 100 years ago, most of us were still farmers, or basic factory workers. News could take days to travel. We weren't forced to monitor things on a second to second basis. We're breaking the fuck down because we are not evolved enough to deal with the society we've created. You aren't wrong, but you aren't looking at it in the proper context.

Also, you're right. It's the opposite of survival. These moments of mental breakdown is basically our way of desperately trying to kill ourselves just to make this shit stop. No fucking shit, Sherlock.

Why the hell do you think militaries have training? We don't get sent straight into combat.

Here's some things you do in the USMC.

1) Gather into teams of two on a stretch of sand. Stare forwards, unflinchingly, as your partner shovels sand into your face. If you cough or flinch or close your eyes, you get the shit kicked out of you by a Drill Sergeant. At the end, you no longer need to stop and reorient yourself if an explosion goes off nearby and kicks dirt and dust everywhere.
2) Gather into teams of two, and strangle each other with rubber hosing. You get to feel what its like to kick and sputter as your instinct takes over and you thrash until everything goes black. Then on-base paramedics revive them, and you strangle them and feel a human being struggle to live in your hands only for them to suddenly double in weight and go limp when they lose consciousness. Now you know both what its like to kill, and what its like to die.
3) Clean the barracks. Not just pick up trash, you have to take a fine tooth comb and go blade of grass by blade of grass, inch of sand by inch of sand, and make sure EVERYTHING is one solid perfect line, which lines up to the marks on a ruler. So you know you cannot quit until the job is done, and you do whatever is asked of you because that's what you fucking were ordered to do.

Then you come back to the civilian world and see people complaining about Merry Christmas VS Happy Holidays and just want to scream at every stupid asshole who thinks it matters either way for the fact you're now an adult stuck with a world full of adult-sized children for the rest of your life.

I'm a programmer.
I work 60+ hours a week. I have no fucking money to show for it. I have thousands of people depending on the work that I as a single person does, and that's because I'm doing contract work. If it was general open market, it would be millions of people.

We're barely able to imagine even a hundred unique individuals, and this is the shit that every single person has to deal with, no matter what their job. The problem is that the world is bigger than we are capable of understanding. If you want some fucking proof, just look at all of the nude photo leaks and people confessing to crimes on Facebook. We are completely incapable of understanding on a biological level that in today's world, we are interacting with the planet. Not a town, or village, or city, or something understandable. And we cannot fucking deal with it, but we are confronted with the consequences of that every day. It's fucking killing us.

Yes, life is better than it was, but it's infinitely more stressful. It's a basic fact of biology that we haven't evolved to deal with the tertiary aspects of this better life.
>>
>>82752145
People who have actually gone into survival mode are people at peace.

Look at the pioneers of the mid 1800's. To them, life in the city was stressful and suicide not uncommon. Despite being at constant risk of attack from natives (or Mormons), they always say it was a simpler time because they had too much time on their hands and life moved too fast around them. Compare only having chores to work on every day to hearing on the radio about how World War 1 is tearing apart civilization as you know it.
>>
>>82752145
Crying releases chemicals in the brain that help with stress coping flushing the system and getting the bad chemicals out through the tears.

Sometimes you need a good cry.
>>
>>82752222
That's the weird thing. Autistic people aren't a problem. They are the Homo-Superior. They are perfectly evolved to deal with modern life. Autistics will inherit the Earth, because it's perfectly suited to them. Hyper focus to very niche tasks, and no emotion to get in the way of that.
>>
>>82752195
Letting sand or blast particles getting into your eyes endangers your vision or makes you blind. Which is also the opposite of survival. It's like "ream men eat nail sandwiches and trek to the south pole naked".

I know it's a joke, but still simple logic destroys the "examples".
>>
>>82752223
The worst part is, that's not something we need to have.

You can live in the modern world, have your smartphone, go on the internet and play video games, and spare yourself most of the stresses of living.

Facebook is only mandatory as a resume. You create it, populate it with enough standard shit that you look like a normal but responsible human being with some hobbies, and you never have to touch it again.

You don't have to constantly check the news, you can set aside a specific time in the day. You treat your phone like you would getting the mail or a newspaper. You don't bring that around with you at all times, you look it over at breakfast or when you get home or whatever.

Even the biggest stress, motor vehicles, is going to be relaxing with self-driving cars.

You have to just stop and put your life in perspective, sort everything you need to do into allotted times.
>>
>>82752265
Except that shit happens without warning at a moments notice. The point is to be able to not panic when shit that destroys your chances of survival happens.
>>
>>82752265
Except the point of that is not to train yourself to never blink when shit gets in your eyes, its to train yourself not to stop and cover your face with your hands in the middle of a firefight or to panic. To become so focused you can override your instincts in the moments that it matters.

Its actually the exact same training technique the Romans were doing. Combat is dirty, chaotic, and there's going to be shit fucking EVERYWHERE.

The average person panics, screams, takes cover, hides their face, puts their arms over their head, and so on. Discipline is when you can be ready to charge or fire the second you get the order as long as you're still alive and upright.
>>
>>82752241
>Sometimes you need a good cry.
Words to live by.

Ever seen a really sad movie that made you bawl, then the next day just felt better?
Its like the emotional equivalent of a hot shower. You just feel fresh again.
>>
>>82752277
I don't disagree, but the problem is that we are very social creatures. I don't use Facebook at all. I think I technically have one, but I created it almost a decade ago and haven't touched it since. I only talk to friends and family on the phone. But even then, I'm asked about news stories (since all my friends and family enjoy following the news) and if I have missed something that happened in that very day, I'm left at a disadvantage, and it's a pain to try and scramble to research it during a conversation, and the stress of not knowing can last for a day or two. And that fucking builds up. So I feel forced to spend time outside of your already busy schedule to pay attention to all of the news stories and make sure that I'm caught up on anything that might be discussed. We're social, but we're also competitive. Knowing that it doesn't really matter doesn't change the fact that we feel that we're completely lost as a human being by not knowing something.
>>
>>82752327
>tfw so emotionally repressed you need drugs and anime to cry
>>
>>82752278
Panicking ≠ closing your eyes when you have sand flying into your eye.
>>
>>82752330
Thing is, not knowing about something can be an advantage in conversation.
It gives something to talk about.

I realized that recently. If I know about a news story completely, then it gives like ten minutes of conversation and two hours of silence.

But if I only have the gist of it, or don't know at all, then "So what's going on today?" becomes a full day of bullshitting and having a good time. People tend to like to babble on, so letting them explain it is good to uplift the spirits of family members or coworkers or anyone else that tolerating for a few hours is mandatory for. Of course you'll want to read the real thing later, not just get their spin on it.

>>82752362
Really? I've got a shitload of music I can listen to that makes me tear up, especially if I'm alone or resting.

Most of the Telltale Walking Dead credit songs, the ending music to the Simpsons episode with Homer's mother where he sits on the car and watches the sunrise, Mother Earth And Father Time, Bright Eyes, Cats In The Cradle, Obstacles, and so on. That's just what immediately comes to mind, I've got a whole folder of songs like that.

>>
>>82752394
Hmm. I can understand that. Might be a difference in personality then. Personally speaking, I'm one of those kinds of people who doesn't want to talk about something I don't understand and hasn't gone through. This was a problem for me when the Panama Papers came out. I didn't read it, I really didn't understand it, and I didn't want to talk about it (unless the other party had information) so it killed the conversation. And that's the other thing. I just ended the conversation feeling like I'd left my family down by not talking about it. The only conversation I was able to have was with a friend who knew someone in international banking so they had information they could give to me.

Anon, in a legitimate battle the air seems like its more dirt and sand than it is oxygen.

If you're on a battlefield, there is sand in your eyes. Period. Not to mention sweat from your brow that burns like acid, and the good old-fashioned smells of war; WD-40, shit, and burning meat which all work like onions together.

The only question is if you're going to stop and rub your eyes every five minutes, if you're going to stop and scream when an explosion goes off to your right or a bullet goes by, or keep one finger on the trigger while your other hand aims your rifle and advance with the rest of your unit leaving no gaps in the firing line.

Yes, we know, you're so tough and all.

But yes, breaking down IS normal. It's always been. People crack. The difference is that in the olden times people dealt with it by beating their family or killing themselves. Now there's a bit of a growing realization that hey, maybe just spending an hour or two crying your shit out for catharsis is in fact not worse than bashing your neighbour's face in with a shovel.

(And even then, aforementioned shoveling is in fact still quite popular as a reaction to stress breakdowns, as you can see in the reports of any police department).

Grandpa was a Vietnam vet, dad was Gulf War. I grew up on more war stories than I did fairy tales. Grandfather especially, he was that special kind of period in history where the last part of training was making a will because they flat out told you that the life expectancy is six months tops. The kind where they don't even check to see if you qualify for mental disability when you come back, they just assume if you lived through it they automatically figure you're too fucked up to function in society and give you a check a month for life. Most of my summers were hearing about boot camp in 1970 and the hills northwest of Dong Ha.

We know people did it back in the day just because it survives in mythology.

The king of Troy's grief after the death of Hektor was so pitiable that even the fucking Greeks, who within weeks would be bashing Trojan babies against the walls due to a Roman/Cathage tier hatred of the Trojans, returned the corpse and gave him time to grieve.

Shit, the Greeks literally invented the manly cry. They created the dirge (the funeral march is an example), and there's one for basically every myth.

I feel you man, people are so fucking antsy to comment on shit they don't know anything about, or just retread a conversation using only the most basic information available when they don't have anything original to say.

I've heard people have conversations where both parties are essentially just regurgitating the exact same news article to each other, line by line, with no actual discourse occurring, but somehow this counts as a conversation?

My friends will try to bring up shit to me like "Oh did you see that new PPG remake" or "Did you hear about the Overwatch butt thing" and I just don't ever want to talk about it because I know we both have nothing to say about it except the exact same shit that we've been reading about all week. I don't want to spend half an hour confirming that we've both heard every little tidbit about this stupid controversy.

People think their personal opinions are way more important than they actually are. If I'm not qualified to speak on something, and have nothing original to add, then I don't fucking speak about it. Everyone else seems to think they NEED to have an opinion on EVERYTHING, and share it as well. I don't get it.

Let me know when your military wins a war that matters.

Vietnam was like Iraq; there was no victory condition going in, so there's nothing but a defeat coming out.

Although to be fair the only point to Vietnam was to show the Commies that was willing to throw every man, woman, and child into a fight if they brought out. There's a reason the Soviets never engaged in another major military conflict with the west after that.

It also forced them to keep up on military spending, which contributed to their virtual economic black hole when they dissolved back into Republics and semi-Communist entities.

you should read how the British keep using shitty outdated guns jam/break all the time and don't get newer/better ones just because they're British made.

Let me know when this is relevant to the fucking comic, anon
Why are you talking about this shit in a Poppy thread

>hits her head/face on hard palace floor literally last page

Don't worry anon. We are weird assholes and bores, but we are not alone.

She hit her butt first POP
Then she rolled down the stairs, hitting her head multiple times before ultimately landing on her face. Concussion is not just plausible, but likely.

That is heartening to think about.

The British fucking LOVED American tanks in World War 2. They may have had colorful opinions of the Americans themselves, but they loved the equipment and vehicles.

When a tank was sent from England to Africa or to the coasts of mainland Europe, it'd be stripped of everything loose that could be sold on the black market during the trip and already falling apart. You'd need a day minimum of maintenance to get them back into fighting shape.

American tanks were well-packaged, protected from the weather and salty sea, not only had all their parts but actually had repair kits and medical supplies shipped with them and sealed, were actually tested before leaving the US, and as soon as they got refueled and armed could be immediately driven at maximum efficiency.

Actually...there is a war going on in the comic, we know of what is basically a cyborg antagonist that will be appearing.

So...marginally relevant.

Also, its easy to trace back to the original point which was somebody without human emotion not being able to understand a complete mental breakdown leading to discussion of stress and lack of sleep leading to discussion of discipline and training leading to statements on the military.
