I'm probably getting evicted. My landlord is apparently dying, and while he originally planned to hand over his properties to his kids, his wife doesn't want to deal with the paperwork that would ensue, so she's just selling them. Which includes my house. I suppose there's a slim chance I could end up staying, but it's doubtful, as the place is a bit banged up, so there's work to be done regardless.

>I listened to the Zub podcast. He gets points for putting Moonstone as the #1 Thunderbolt.
There were a lot of complaints about how Zub wrote Karla poorly, which, honestly I don't see. Like, she barely did anything in the issue. Yeah, she was a bit open about pissing Bucky off, but it's just after Standoff, and everyone's a bit on edge. There was even an implication that she was planning to work her psyche skills on Kobik before the kid ripped the moonstone out of her.

>>82707378
And the news came yesterday, so suddenly too. Life sure likes to slap you in the face out of nowhere.

>There was even an implication that she was planning to work her psyche skills on Kobik before the kid ripped the moonstone out of her.
She's still up and running in the issue 2 preview, I wouldn't count that out yet. I think part of the reason everything had to run so fast is just general issue 1 pacing and impact. No time for a slow psych play - you can do that later if you actually shift enough issues to stick around for a bit.
>>

>>
>>82707904
anon probably means hype for the reactions to how shitty it will be
>>
>>82707919
I am legitimately excited for CW2 fandom reactions because this is the first really damaging derailing event for so many n00bs, NGL
>>
>>82707999
it's already paid off in wailing about Kamala and Carol not being properly female-supportive of each other
>>
>>82707084
Captain Atom is too damn relatable. He's like the perfect adult counterpart to Peter Parker.
>>
>>82707919
I like how much info Zub puts out there as a creator but having read Skullkickers some I'm not gonna attribute him with top tier writerly skills until he delivers on them.
>>
>>82707999
Indeed.
>>
>>82707904

Like 2% because I'm just hopeful but mostly watching the reactions and effects. Maybe some good tie ins too
>>
>>82708031
it's really charming! I didn't expect him to be so personable.
>>
>>82708031
He does remind me of pre OMD Peter now that you mention it.
>>
>>82707999
I know right?

Kamala fans weren't very happy about that teaser with her ripping up Carol's pic, and Carol fans don't seem thrilled at how Bendis wrote her in the FCBD thing
>>
>>82708028
I love Ms. Marvel but apart from that one inspired triumvirate page I never really got why she's so connected to Carol.
>>
>>82707999
God me too.

Especially since there are so many tie ins. Let's see if they can keep up and tolerate them like more seasoned fans do.

And BENDIS. He's gonna write everyone so awful and the same, and I want to see how people react to that.
>>
>>82708151
Because she likes Carol, and chose the name and logo.
>>
>>82708064
This is great and I would read Eiling being trolled and delayed forever. Practically Dick Dastardly right now.
>>
>>82708165
I've already seen pushback at his T'Challa but that was from someone who knows full well what Bendis is and has no expectations. It's the n00bs who don't know what's coming that I'm all for

>>82708151
I guess it's the fangirl thing? And then there's a lot of room left open for fandom to project, look at the Carol Corps itself
>>
>>82708151
Because.
>>
>>82708105
Did we get Grumpy Carol back? Because of the two Bendis things I've read with Carol in them, she was the best part. Dude sucks at a lot of things, writing a somewhat entertaining Carol Danvers is not one of them, somehow.

>>82708151
Kamala is supposed to be a fangirl who got the chance to actually hang with her idol as a fellow hero. I guess she's supposed to be like Cassandra Sandsmark in a sense.
>>
>>82708214
I can't see militaristic, take-no-shit, take-no-prisoners, authoritarian Carol Danvers actually forming a major supportive connection with a goofy, lovable, always well-meaning New Jersey kid. Kamala idolizes Carol, fine, but I don't think her losing that idolization in the flesh is a false character move.
>>
>>82708343
>militaristic, take-no-shit, take-no-prisoners, authoritarian Carol Danvers
it wasn't that Carol, it was KSD Carol
>>

>>
>>82708256
>Carol Corps
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world the Carol Corps were actually a thing.
>>
>>82708369
Given Eiling's actions so far I can only assume this will end with him literally ripping out Megala's heart and forcibly pumping it with his hand until he can hook it up to some kind of life support.
>>
>>82708256
>Carol Corps
>think it's going to be Carol forming a team out of her old Air Force buddies
>turns out it's just her hanging out with her fanclub
Why you gotta blue ball me, Marvel? If any of this shit was supposed to get me interested in Captain Marvel, it failed.

What's even the premise of her current ongoing? Please tell me something of substance is happening.
>>
>>82708462
something that fits a desired narrative will be trumpeted far beyond its actual size

although I think "KSD Fandom" is more meaningful than the Carol Corps, desu

>>82708485
Carol In Space with Abby Brand and Alpha Flight
>>
>>82708485
The Secret Wars tie in was an even bigger kick in the balls.
>>
>>82708343
I'm hoping that the reason Kamala has her break with Carol is when she realizes why Carol REALLY is.
>>
>>82708540
Yeah, didn't she come up with the #NONCOMPLIANT hashtag? I've seen that around far more than the Carol Corps. People even tattooed themselves for crying out loud!

>>
>>82708540
Like, straight up Carol seems like she'd hit it off way more with Abigail Brand (even though they're spitting at each other right now) than Kamala Khan.

Or say Miss America, who has that edgy, I-will-fuck-you-up streak to her too. I could see Carol mentoring her!
>>
>>82708734
>I could see Carol mentoring her!

You just want them to fuck.
>>
>>82708665
Are they leaving or just skipping out on the tie-ins?

>>82708734
Anyone know how Ewing's writing them in Ults (which I have still not read)?
>>
>>82708727
That should be /co/'s "Thanks Obama" desu
>>
>>82708343
>>82708626
I dunno. The idea of a cheerful idealistic fan who meets her idol, find out said idol is a bit of a no-nonsense jaded jerk, but tries to bring her around to being less abrasive sounds kinda nice actually. I mean, it's pretty basic buddy comedy type stuff, but it could work.
>>
>>82708796

HARDCORE
>>
>>82708775
I do not. I'm not even a Carol/Jess shipper (at least, beyond the novelty of a lesbian science baby denied to us).
>>
I don't think America and Carol have had much one on one time in Ultimates

>>82708802

We had Thanks Quesada/Thanks Didio for a bit.
>>
>>82706922
>e resigned his commission and got a DD out of it?
Well, he did resign by throwing Major Force through the ceiling at a superior officer.
>>
>>82708796
Ultimates is fine but legit the two issues focused on Galactus' character development were above and beyond what any of the main cast have gotten so far. Same goes for Anti-Man actually, last issue had a fucking great sequence with him.

Ultimates is great because it's Ewing not trying to crack a joke every page and trying to show cleverness in a more contained, consistent, constructed way. Rocafort plays the art into what the comic is saying well too (and they got a great fill-in).
>>
>>82708724
>Bitch Planet
Wasn't that the rip off of another comic from Darkhorse? (By DeCampi maybe?)
>>
>>82708796
They haven't interacted much, though that's somewhat intentional since America only joined the team to keep an eye on them and take them out if necessary.

>>
>>82708823
She's met Carol a few times, but she's on her best behavior every time.
>>
>>82708724
To be fair that NC is a fairly subtle comics tattoo to get. I haven't read Bitch Planet beyond one issue with an extremely broadcasted twist.
>>
>>82708926
Grindhouse.
>>
>>82708926
I wouldn't call it a ripoff, although it's deliberately nodding to the general grindhouse/Women In Prison aesthetic
>>
>>82708834
Hardcore, or just really white trash?
>>
>>82708926
It's just a rip off of the whole Caged Heat, women-in-prisons subgenre of films, with more pseudo politics.
>>

I don't wanna trip, but if someone keeps being shitty, I'll trip for these storytimes

Also, something like surprise Bomb Queen is funny once, not the whole thread

It's remarkable how good this is at twisting the classic secret id stuff

That would require him to commit homicide.
And that's not me putting it past him.

Wouldn't sueprise me. Eiling has been well established as being vindictive and petty.

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

Really, I appreciate it. Makes a bad day tolerable.

I'm reminded of the time a Storytimer did ASS, and photos hopped the letter to show the BvS RT scores.
I salute that crazy bastard, and his commitment to a joke.

God, now I feel old for having survived comics circa 2003-2010.
And DC's late 90s/early 2000s Fifth Week Event era which was enjoyably pretty non disruptive.

Just FYI we're 55 issues and then the book gets cancelled because they were planning on making him Monarch in Armageddon 2001, and we all know what happened there

we might could stick with the I LOVE THE 80S theme and go Squad, as we're going to crossover with it anyways

He's been a dickish/confused flying brick for so long it was hard to expect him not being that here.

He's a total asshole in Injustice (before he blows up), IIRC, right? So we can add that to the list of Flanderizations. It's actually making me kind of sad to see where he went (and we haven't even talked Countdown yet)

Megala 10/10 best character in this book.

I mean, so is everyone else

Nate wasn't even that bad in Injustice, he was just unfortunate enough to encounter Murder Woman and Emperor Supes

No way, nobody's being turned into a head or a man-rat or forced to stare at skeletons in mid-air, Captain Atom does not have a floating observatory where he watches over everyone's every movement, and he definitely does not have a child army.
>>
>>82713763
They both have human bodies that are covered with a weird alien metal. Also while the Captain has energy powers, the Major has power over matter.

Captain Atom is just a much better candidate for all this Emperor Superman, Injustice-type stuff that Big Blue gets hit with so often.
>>
>>82711930
Squad is one of my favourite DC comics of all time and we could do it because Ostrander just announced a new project and the movie is coming up.
>>
Captain Atom is a really interesting character, he's Cap but it's 60s->80s instead of WW2-> modern day. I wonder how much of this working is having Eiling be the biggest asshole and letting everyone else react.

I love all these DC 80s stuff that used and commentated on the military and government.

Since this thread is still up, I might as well ask now.

http://desustorage.org/co/thread/79530688/#79534316

I found this Captain Atom recs post. It says to avoid Johns and Waid related stuff.

The only time I know Johns wrote Captain Atom was the JSA JLA crossover. Pretty much what happens is Captain Atom appears, sees Johnny Sorrow's face, promptly explodes from the ugliness, and later lands on Despero.

So when did Johns shit on Captain Atom?

And can someone tell me what Waid did?
>>
>>82730892
Huh, I'm not sure.

And I'd hardly count Johns as shitting on him, he's a very minor player but that time-jumping is a clever usage of an established characteristic.
>>
It's a shame we never got a more faithful adaptation of Eiling. We got either a discount General Ross or generic Clancy Brown role. None of them have the pettiness Eiling had.
>>
>>82733211
Eiling has to be both vindictively petty and canny/smart/competent. Hard mix to portray, easy to stereotype.
>>
>>82733211
Don't forget YJ Eiling where he pretends to be supportive of Nate once he's found innocent, but was revealed he keikaku'd his framing and the attempt by the Team to uncover the truth.

Though he still raised Nate's kids.
>>
>>82708028
I always liked how Pat Broderick's art looked a bit weird, a bit "off" but somehow convincing and readable as well.
>>
>>82730892
OH--Waid would be Kingdom Come, wherein Parasite cuts Captain Atom and he blows up and destroys Kansas.

Yeah but that joke gave me PTSD. I first heard it when I was 10 years old and my dad stretched it over a two hour drive before he gave me the punchline.
>>
>>82735392
Thanks.
It's been a while since I read Kingdom Come.
