Its like something out of an FPS.
>>
So, is Gotham any good? It seems to be very hammy and afflicted with prequelitis, but I shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
>>
>>82624464

Its like the Adam West series and the Burton movies had a baby.

The levels of ham and camp are so ridiculous that you can't help but smile.

>So, is Gotham any good?
No, capekino is a meme. There is no good capeshit stuff in 2016, it's all awful.
>>
>>82624464
Gotham is very enjoyable
>>
>>82624500
So it's kind of a "so bad it's good" deal? Or just incredibly silly and fun because of that?
>>
>>82624546

Its very silly and fun.

You have guys getting gibbed by rocket launchers, frail old men hopped up on Venom, people melting into puddles of warm ice cream, a man with a pocket full of C4 exploding, an army of men all dressed like the Penguin storming a mansion, a man who kills people by tying them to balloons and letting them float away...

Its goofy in the very best way.
>>
>>82624464
It's fucking amazing. It legitimately adds cool new things to comics lore while keeping things tied pretty close to canon, so it all feels really natural. Nothing is a straight boring retelling of the comics though, so everything feels fresh, and since we never see this time period there's a lot of twists they can pull.

It's the best cape show ever made. Hands down.
>>82624515
Ignore this retard.
>>
Is that Azrael being shot by Harvey Bullock with a rocket launcher?
>>
>>82624546
It's not bad in any way.

It's only "silly" in the ways that a man dressed as a bat is "silly." Everything in-universe makes perfect sense. Gotham is just a city full of crazy people, and they all act like it. It's a show built on the logic of a comic book world.

Plus it's gorgeous.
>>
>>82624709
no he's being shot by Butch on Penguins orders

Not Harvey, a new character named Butch. He has a hook for a hand. Sometimes he swaps it out for a hammer.

Anon, even though superheroes are silly to begin with, a balloon-killer is sillier than a man who dresses like a bat.

>>
>>82624792
Because it's a half-measure that comes off trying to be realistic but ends up seeming like an orphan between "edgy realism" and full comic crazyness.

Ok, cool
>he uses a hook or a hammer
Wow.

One of the best shows on television right now.
>>
>>82624464
I've never seen a show that's had so much improvement from the first to second seasons. First season is alright, but flawed certainly, second season is the holy grail of serialized television and world design, the city design and overall aesthetic to the show is literally perfect.
>>
>>82629050
To be fair, the aesthetic and stuff was established in season 1. The only thing that changed was the stakes. Season 2 is the natural next step from season 1. But yeah, unless you've seen what they're moving towards Season 1 can seem a little slow.

Personally I kind of miss the big overarching chess match mind games of Season 1, and I wish we could get more stuff like Bruce and Selina just hanging out together. The two of them getting to be friends was a lot of fun. We did get Bruce and Selina living together and being all domestic though.

>>82627805
The season finale was good, but I still say Gotham has the edge. We had an entire action episode with an office building under siege by hitmen, an entire episode of Bruce and Silver being tortured and interrogated, and a ton of other stuff.

iZombie had a damn good cliffhanger ending, though, I'll give you that. Shit was chilling.
>>
>>82624456
>All this capeshit looks the same to me

>Fagthom
>>
>>82629510
I'm pretty divided on both of them. I guess they ended up better than most of the others out now because many are trying to jam characters into the stories and always want to one up themselves threat level wise while these two focus on being their own thing a bit more. It also doesn't hurt that they don't NEED super stuff and that it is just icing on the cake. All Gotham (the city not just the show) needs is crazies and all iZombie needs is a decent overarching plot that gets expanded every few episodes. They also seem to be the only shows this season that didn't seem to have the main character repeatedly making horrible decision after horrible decision. Sometimes people make bad choices sure but a lot of times it seems like people are simply doing idiotic things so the story will continue.
>>
>>82624928
Please¿
>>
>>82629662
What I like about Gotham is that Gotham is the only cape show that actually tries to add anything to its parent's mythos.

Flash is just a kind of clumsy retelling of things that already happened. Legends muddles around with a bunch of DC universe stuff. Daredevil is a retelling of Daredevil's origins. Arrow is... Arrow.

But Gotham is about how the city around Batman developed, and how all the characters he goes up against did too. It shows all the pieces coming together in how Bruce became Batman, instead of showing that he just did. They go into things like how Capes need to be Capes to come back from the dead, the nature of how they relate to identity and personas, The show also gives us the best Joker we might have ever had by simply not having him be anything more than an idea.
>>
>>82623098

Daredevil had a mediocre season 2 though while Gotham keeps improving

I'm a punisher fag and I liked it a lot, but that doesn't mean it was anything more than decent.Gotham without jada is a great great show. Nothing ground breaking. But the flamingo episode ending encapsulated everything good about the show: fast, violent and you don't know what to expect

Personally I think there's two damning sins Daredevil commits:

Number one is that the dialogue is sophomoric and is delivered in the worst ways possible. People don't talk- they recite speeches like Rorschach's internal monologues at each other.

The second is that the whole thing looks ridiculously cheap. The best comparison is a film student's undergraduate project, or a low budget teleplay- the framing of each individual shot tends to be straight-on, which makes it look like it was shot on a camcorder. The sets are sparse and flat, and I swear I've seen sets that are supposed to be complex. They don't try and build a world with them; they're just places for things to happen in. And the choreography is some of the worst I've seen in anything above a daytime Soap Opera. Everyone knows fights in film are faked, but the ways they're faked in film differs from stage shows.

The best example of this I can give you is Frank's prison fight- whenever he stabs someone, he slides his fingers forwards over the "blade" and bumps them with the butt of his hand. This is common in stage shows because it's easy and you aren't looking too closely, or in movies when it's shot from a proper angle. Daredevil shoots this straight on, so you can see him not stab the other person. This is really poor form, and destroys any illusion that the fight is happening.

It's not just tat, though; every punch is from the elbow, people are clearly punched past, and the whole thing generally looks like a bunch of kids playing.

Then there's the hallway fight that people praise, where the Daredevil "actor" over-theatrically plays up being "tired" like a silent movie actor would. If you watch it with the sound off it looks like a Marx Brothers skit, especially when he ducks people's punches and tries to do jumping kicks off the wall.

There's a ton of other problems (the pacing, the so called "comic relief," the costume...) But the blatantly bad filmmaking is something I can't forgive
>>
>>82631005
>>82631029
>marvelfags dindu nuttin
>>
>>82631035

Those are all fair complaints, I guess, but I don't see how Gotham is any better.

I've never particularly been blown away by Gtoham's dialogue. It never really struck me as being anything more than "sophomoric" in its own way. The plots have always been messily conceived and a lto of the dialogue seems contrived.

As for the cheapness aspect, I've never really felt that Daredevil looked significantly cheap, especially compared to other cape shows airing right now. It's got a particular style of cinematographyu that, I guess, doesn't seem as 'made-up' in some regards, but it's never been a thing that set me off of the show.

I can see what you mean with some of the fight scenes, especially in season two, where the quality of the fights dropped a bit. Fair enough. For the most part I still think the fight scenes are well-coordinated, though.

You seem a lot more critically inclined to this sort of film-making than I am, though. Maybe I just haven't noticed everything that's supposedly wrong with how it's done, but I've always enjoyed Daredevil. I think it's well-acted, I was never bored, I liked the action scenes and, though the dialogue got a little up itself at times, I thought it had some good moments.

Again, I don't see it as being significantly worse than any of the other cape shows I watch, and I don't really see why Gotham stands head and shoulders above the rest of them.

The only cape show I've watched significantly that I'd say was shit in any obvious way was Arrow. The rest run the gamut from watchable to good.
>>
>>82631119
MCU shows are all obviously after a target audience who isn't smart enough to be annoyed by how generic stuff looks, how idiotic a lot of the scenes are, how awful most of the characters are. For example, many scenes have characters draw their weapons but, nobody gets hurt or shot. This kind of false drama is a trick bad writers use to escalate tension without actually influencing the story or developing their characters. Netflix goes to this well so often.

They also dislike painting a negative picture of the characters they want you to root for. Probably the best example of this is when Punisher buys a bunch of illegal equipment. The sleazy salesman sees his face. I'm questioning The Punisher's intelligence. Then the truth is revealed: The guy selling the equipment is like "OH BTW I HAVE HORRIBLE ILLEGAL PORNOGRAPHY" and then Punisher is like "yeah I'll kill this guy." Which hides his tracks and ties the scene together too perfectly. I mean, he's a vigilante murderer buying illegal surveillance equipment. Wouldn't he just kill this goon? But Netflix doesn't want him to be unlikable, so they paint this salesman as such a disgusting sleaze that nobody cares when he's killed. Because they're trying to control how you feel about the show, and about Punisher. It's bad television.

But /co/'s bad taste brigade loves it. Honestly Punisher will be a perfect choice for Netflix. They want the Hot Topic audience and he's a psychotic killer. But I hate it, and would prefer an Astro City show. Something good.
>>
>>82631145
Why are you still making this about company wars when you've said nothing about how DC has done anything better. Especially Gotham which was what anon originally asked.
>>
>>82630822
>>it references comics a lot so it's a good show
It honestly doesn't reference much. Outside of stuff like street names it is usually all about setting things up either for future possibilities (red hood gang) or the overarching plot that just happens to have people from the Batman mythos. Honestly other shows reference much more and much more often. Not a bad thing though, nothing is wrong with Easter eggs.

>>82630570
I'm interested to see how fish does in this "new world order". Penguin was a bumbling manipulator when she died and became far more ruthless after becoming King, seeing his mother both get murdered and die in his arms, get stranged up the ass in Markham, and watching the only person who accepted him after all that also die. Even with Strange helping her ass I don't see how Fish can even be a threat but her character may annoy people less when she is thrown into this chaos driven world and not some big time mob player that no one gives a shit about.
