I'm trying to get caught up on my physical collections, just finished Doom Patrol and Power Man and Iron Fist, and I'm working through Uncanny X-Force. After that I just got through the Moon Knight Epic Collection.

Outta curiosity, hows the CW show?
>>82626737
>How in the world they ended up in Japan
Probably US Military. Comics were like the perfect entertainment for soldiers early on. Up until at least the 70's you had more adult comics being made exclusively for them
>>82627122
Original Buyer here. The show is nothing like comics. Pretty much only zombies instead of other monsters and the main character's personality and they like is changed around, but the show is pretty good.

>>82627500
Dude. You've inspired me to do the same thing and start an Iron Fist/Luke Cage reading. I've just read a few reviews for the Epic collections and they seem SOLID.
>>82627500
What's the difference between the Masterworks and Epic trades?
>>82627251
>labeling a mainstream shelf
if you didn't do this just as a joke, then fucking kill yourself, for the safety of mankind
>>82627255
First one was bought back when it was released last August, although the second volume was bought fully knowing about the omni.
I decided against the omni primarily because the first volume holds a special place in my (albeit small) collection due to it being signed by Wilson alongside it being the first physical comic I ever owned.
>>82627714
Epics are typically paperback, and larger.
Masterworks are usually hardcovers (although there's paperbacks for some of them) and have introductions in the front that are usually done by people involves. To get a completly random example, the Captain Marvel Masterworks have introductions by Roy Thomas, who wrote some of them, so we get some insight into what was going on behind the scenes. If I'm being completely impartial, the Epic is better, since the introductions probably aren't THAT interesting, but it's a vice.
>>82627685
I was going to start storytiming the series after I finished, but Iron Fist just bounced around EVERYWHERE. He was part of the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu series, which I haven't read yet, he was a major part of the 90's Namor series, and both of them appeared in that Marvel Comics Presents. Luke was lucky in the early years, RIGHT up until Bendis started working, where he basically made his husbando appear EVERYWHERE.
>>82627795
Well I can't talk about practically being overruled for that reason. Shit, I've still got the Deluxe Killing Joke on my bookcase for the same reason (except I never got Alan Moore to sign it).
>>82627886
Thanks for this. A story time would be cool. I am tempted to just buy the Claremont/Byrne Iron Fist epic trade regardless. I love the idea of the UXM team working their magic prior to that phenomenon.
Marvel has what seems like 3 omnis coming out related to Shang-Chi including Deadly Hands. I know you haven't read the series, but do you know anything about it? Which Shang-Chi series is a must-read? All of them?
>>82628011
Deadly Hands isn't actually a Shang-Chi series, as much as it sounds like it is. It's a Martial Arts Anthology comic. Shang-Chi is one of the recurring characters, yes. As is Iron Fist himself, the Daughters of the Dragon (also known as Nightwing Investiagions or Colleen Wing and Misty Knight of Iron Fist fame), the original White Tiger, and the "Sons of the Tiger", a trio of martial artists, one of which becomes a recurring Iron Fist character (at least during the Power Man & Iron Fist days).
Shang-Chi, on the other hand, just had Master of Kung Fu, mostly by Englehart and Starlin. I have no clue if it's good, because I only Starlin from his cosmic stuff. That said, the character's lasted over 40 years, so someone's had to do good work with him.
That said, it feels a bit odd that a character who was basically a Mary Sue (the never before mentioned son who's the best martial artist on the planet) of Fu Manchu has lasted so long, so I'd read it out of sheer morbid curiosity.
>>82628182
It looks like Paul Gulacy does the art in the second Master of Kung Fu omni coming out in September. I'm curious about that. Thanks again for the info, anon!
I just wish DC had similar martial arts-themed titles and trades circulating out there.
>>82628238
Manhunter by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson is easy to come by.

why do people shelve their comics like this
Like It might just be me, but doesnt the height inconsistencies really piss people off? honestly it looks so trashy and lazy, like you just threw it on willy nilly.
Its especially bad with the new52 ones and they just have the coloured tops all over the place
I dunno, like, shelve things the way you want, do what makes you happy and all that but god damn it legit looks like a mess

>>82625762
Only issue 20. I love it so far, I have a minor in religious studies just for pagan/occult things, so it's fun to see those elements accurately portrayed for once.
>>82634434
I tried to get them all grouped up via publisher. Yeah it looks kinda goofy but I don't really care about how it looks aesthetically cause its just a placeholder shelf till I get a new bookcase.
>>82634758
I can respect that
>>82634844
I feel you on the N52 books though. They are all over the place with the colored tops and volume 7 of Batman really pisses me off cause its a completely different design from the other six volumes.
>>82634434
I'd rather keep books together by character/series than hunt and peck for books because they have different sizes. Easier for me and I think it looks fine.
>>82634883
bravo snyder
>>82634434
Sure, when I get more space and more books, I'll organize them better. I mean I got my Batman with Batman and my Preacher all lined up right, because keeping series/characters together is more important to me, but I'm not really an organizational dude so whatever.
>>82634883
Honestly thats why I'm not buying any of the newer books, at least not any time soon, and when I do I'm putting them out of order in their own section of the shelf, although the only one I want is Batman and Robin so I probably wont even do that
>>82634434
my books are arranged by reading order, not size. the books are more to be read than to be looked at so function over form for me buddy
>>82632466
i still haven't hopped into it yet. I'll start it this week for you though and let you know next week what i think!
>>82627762
Naw, this pic is from a store in Irvine, CA.
Reading Stray Bullets, Uber Alles Edition.
I've actually had it for a long time but didn't really like it all that much initially. Read like, 4 parts in and felt like it was really dour. I've always been kind of put off by super seedy low level crime stories because they remind me of people I knew in school.
But I got to the one about the little girl that met God and then became a serial criminal and blew up the earth. Loved that shit, nice whacky interlude between the seedy stories about pedophiles and normal kids accidentally getting caught up with petty criminals. It's growing on me. I like that there is a continuity to some of the stories.
>>82634444
I'm bad at judging binding so check it out for yourself.
>>82633230
Gotham Academy's great for the first 12 issues. I haven't been digging the Yearbook anthology arc but I'm sure it'll return to form when it relaunches in the Fall.
>>82626640
Power Man and Iron Fist is just a ton of fun. It has that goofy blacksploitation/kung fu 70's charm that just can't be replicated. I recommend checking out their original solo series first as it carries over plot lines from them, but if you can't, everything you need to know gets explained anyways.
>>82633147

That it's dumb. Alien gods get stranded in Paris and need fuel. Negotiate with le evil politician but he wants immortality in exchange so they tell them to fuck off. Meanwhile one of the gods enters a Hyman's body and they banter for a while "as expected from a mere human" type shit, then they go to a hockey game, catch one of the players before he gets on the field, kills him and takes his place. After the game he unmasks and says he wants to be mayor. Then they televise a debate between the mayor and Nikopol and the god inside Nikopol mind controls the mayor to make him say he'll step down and support Nikopol in the coming elections. Then Nikopol wins and the god exits his body to fuck off for a bit but when he returns he finds the others gods there and they tell him he's gonna get buttfucked while they use Nikopol(now mayor) to get fuel.
It was so fucking dumb... I was expecting some angle about Nikopol slowly losing himself and becoming more and more Horus but instead they just banter between one another like Firestorm.
Anons I need your help.
I don't buy comics since I was a kid, and I got some this free Comic day, thing is I got hooked with the Damian Wayne character and now I would like to buy one of those big hardcover compendiums because searching comics individually is really hard because I'm lost and don't know what to look for.
Which compendiums can I buy that have his origin story and/or best moments that I can read as a stand alone without knowing much of the overall universe?
I've seen the animated movies, and even if they are great and all I want to read the real thing.
Thanks a lot and sorry for the wallpost!

Ehh, I must too uncritical and easy to please. What do you expect from Eurocomics, anyways? The stories aren't usually the strong points.
Mark Schultz's new kickstarter is live! Carbon 2 and Storms at Sea Deluxe Editions. Should I spend $344.66 CAD to get them both? Flesk does make beautiful books...

is it worth it?
>>82636973
I pledged $265 CAD for the two books. Can't wait!
>>82633103
Is that just how Preacher is or did they rerelease the first 2 volumes to match later?
>>82636914
>What do you expect from Eurocomics, anyways?
I expected something good.
>>82637572
It's a horrible and obnoxious series.
>>82637900
You get good art and a dumb story in most cases.
>>82637572
not really. reddit loves it. /co/ hates it. if that matters to you
I just couldn't get over how stiff and static the art is. Talking heads for pages upon pages.
>>82637572
I think so. It collects the first 11 issues and has a bunch of writers notes in the back about each issue. The book itself is well put together. IST has it for like 27 bucks and that's well worth it.

I've never read anything by Gillen that didn't fit this description.

That's one of the two things I read(the other was Young Avengers).
Seems like a writer for the tumblr crowd.

I actually haven't even opened my JL blurays but I got them for 25-30 each off eBay. The one directly to the left of BatB is JLU Complete, same price.
I was gonna watch them immediately when I got them but then I had to get through Batman Beyond because I've never seen that or Static Shock or Zeta Project, and wanted to have those under my belt before I got addicted to Justice League and ended up watching the epilogue, which I hear ties everything together from BtAS StAS, etc.
>>82637865
Also that's just how my Preacher is, I got the six book re-release with all the side-stories and such included rather than the...I think it was the original 10 book release? So they're all from the same set, it's just the newer one.

DESU senpai the Batman and Preacher stuff came from B&N because it was when they had buy two get one free on trades, but the rest came mostly from eBay, Newbury Comics, or one of the other LCSes around here.

I'll stop lining to /a/ when you stop posting manga. For the record I'm fine with manga, and think it's ok if it's posted with comics. But Just posting your manga list by itself is stupid to post on /co/.

Great.
Picked up GL omni 3 recently, so now I own the entire Johns GL run and its tie-ins. Only thing I didn't pick up was Red Lanterns, which I didn't really enjoy and felt periphery enough that I didn't need it for completion's sake. There is an annoying small gap at the end of the shelf, so I might pick up the GL Celebration of 75 Years collection to fill out the shelf.
Also picked up some trades at FCBD with a buy 3, get 1 free deal. Ms. Marvel, Superman: For Tomorrow, Man of Steel, and Daytripper. I've read Ms. Marvel and Daytripper before and wanted to own them. Heard good things about For Tomorrow and Man of Steel, so figured I'd take the risk. It mostly just reminded me why I stick to Amazon/IST for trades though. Also just got the sexy Kamen Rider Ghost Figuarts.

How is the Owl mask? Have you ever taken it out of the package? I own Court of Owls from a Batman 75th anniversary collection I bought, but I'm a sucker for masks and I really like the Owl ones.

How's the Astro Boy omni, as far as quality of the physical book goes?
>>82640985
What all is in Vol 3 of the Omni? Does it have the War of the Green Lanterns in it?
>>82641262
It's bigger than it should be and made out of cheep plastic, but works well for a Halloween costume if you have a pure black face mask under it and something to make the mask appear to be smaller than it actually is.
>>82640005
well, im on a manga kick right now
in a month or 2 i should be back to western comics

>>82641406
It has War of the Green Lanterns (all of it), but not Aftermath. For Rise of the Third Army and Wrath of the First Lantern, it only includes the GL issues -- not GLC, New Guardians, and Red Lanterns. Which I thought was pretty lame.
>>82641262
I'm still pissed about season 3, especially since the season 2 DVD set has one episode from season 3 on it, and was omitted from the season 3 DVD set
But for the Bluray, they fixed it so that the episode is missing from the season 2 Bluray. So now if I wanted to get season 3 I can either pirate it (Which I already did), get the season 3 DVD set and have to replace my season 2 just for one out of order episode, or resign myself to no season 3.
Eh I keep posting the same stuff but I need to shrink my backlog a bit before I start getting more

It's good. I've always enjoyed edge-lord Morrison, and Yeowell is tops.
>>82641651

they were barely relevant to the main story anyway so I can see why they left them out
Currently reading that textbook with the picture of Optimus Prime.

I think I'll do some Morrison, specifically Animal Man, but not sure.

They made a Hotline Miami 2 comic?
>>82649211
Well, they did, but that's actually the record set.
Right now the comic's only available online for free as well as bundled together with an overpriced special edition, but they're putting out a stand alone edition 'soon'

>The Marvel Omnibus for recent series have fun, flashy spines with artwork and logotypes
>The spines for the Silver Age Kirby Omnibus are boring and drab, look like they're accounting ledgers
Of all my petty grudges against Marvel, this is certainly my most recent.

If you're set on Morrison go with Animal Man, Doom Patrol or his Batman run.
