So is the original PPG worth checking out? All this talk of the shitty new one has more interested and I remember liking the few episodes of the old one I saw when I was little(surprisingly my Mom didn't let me and my siblings watch it, but my Dad was cool with it) I've heard the last two seasons are bad though.
>>
>>82595603
no its shit and its full of animation errors
>>
>>82595687
The old one?

>the horror

but for srs, you should check it out
>>
>>82595603
...the old one is like a show meant for kids, and not just a kid's show.. if that makes any sense to you. It's good, but it's made for a younger audience. There is no continuity. Just some funny scenes/episodes, with some good messages (don't do drugs, respect your parents, etc).
>>
>>82595603
I think that the episodes in the middle of the run are the beat.
>>
>>82595603
I think that scene in OP was when Blossom was the last one standing right?

I love when you get to see examples of why the leader is the leader.
>>
>>82595947
There is continuity of a sort they mention older episodes a lot there just isn't any story arc or anything like what new cartoons try to have.
>>
>>82595947
You realize all those were parodies and tongue-in-cheek right

Craig McCracken intended for it to be a sleeper hit with college stoners, but it took off with all audiences because it's a genuinely good show. Possibly the best cartoon ever made.
>>
>>82595790
Shit, was the old one just as bad as far as animation errors go?
Fuck, I might just plain stop commenting on either incarnation of the show now.
>>
>>82595603
>surprisingly my Mom didn't let me and my siblings watch it, but my Dad was cool with it
Same, weird. It's pretty comfy, I would give it a go if you like jokes and nostalgia.
>>
I didn't watch the original series as a kid since I thought little girl protagonists = show for little girls only. The horrible quality of the new series made me start watching the old one and I've been absolutely loving it so far.
>>
>>82596141
nah, like all shows it had it's fuck ups but Craig and company knew what they were doing.

also the writing was pretty strong.
>>
>>82595603
so worth it
>>
>>82595603
I wouldnt go out of my way for it
>>
>>82595603
It was going downhill after the movie. Craig was super dejected after it flopped, and went on to do Foster's after Season 4
>>
The original PPG is one of the best cartoons ever made.
>>
I never thought it was anything special, idk why it got a movie and a reboot.
>>
>>82595603
i just want to know what episode that is in OP's pic?

Yeah.
It's not like it's "OMG MUST SEE", but if you do watch it you shouldn't be disappointed.
>>
I adore the show, but some of its worst episodes are pure shit.
>>
>>82596312
Stuck Up Up and Away, first episode of Season 2
>>
>>82595603
Eh. it's ok. It was great when it was on but I don't know that you'd go back to it.

DEFINITELY watch the movie.
>>
>>82596366
The worst episode with Craig's name on it was when Blossom worked at Hot Dog on a Stick.

Worst episode was probably the sunburn episode.
>>
>>82596176
OP here, my situation with this show is a bit odd. My Dad, who is a feminist wanted us to watch it mostly because of "muh grrl power" while my Mom, who is not a feminist, didn't want us to watch it because it was "too violent/inappropriate". She had the same problem with DBZ, Pokemon and Billy and Mandy. Lots of kids at my school loved it, and boys actually really weren't made fun of for liking it.
>>
>>82595603

I remember thinking that scene was so bad ass as a kid.
>>
>>82595603
If you have Netflix, just hop on in and enjoy the series.

First four seasons are obviously the way to go, though some episodes of the last two seasons are perfectly serviceable.

I've been rewatching it myself the past few days and aside from one episode (Gnomey), i've been having a blast.
>>
I never saw the PPG movie untill a few weeks ago. it was really god damn solid.
>>
>>82595603
witty charming stylish good action

it had something for everyone

its on netflix
>>
Definitely. Especially if you grew up with other CN shows from that era
>>
>>82595603
After watching and being impressed by The Rowdyruff Boys I’ve started working my way through the Genndy-directed ones. Still got a lot of them to go, but so far they’ve ranged from not-terrible to actually pretty good. I’d say give it a shot.
>>
Thanks for the replies /co/. I do quite like a lot of the older CN shows so I bet I'll probably love this.
>>
>>82596141
Don't stop, seriously, there is so much more control they have with digital compared to cell animation.

Ok fuck off now. nuPPG shouldn't HAVE errors like this in the digital age for one, and two, technically looking at that gif again I realized it's actually "intentional". As is, perspectively, the hand is supposed to go behind the plate, but the perspective is fucked up so it looks badly layered.
It's still better than webm related.

There's actually nothing wrong with that webm. I keep looking for something but it's just not there. PEOPLE REALLY DO THIS IN REAL LIFE I SEEN IT

Wait never mind now i see it.

I swear every time the second i open my mouth.

Look at the right of the door frame as she's going out.

It's only like two frames though, but it can be noticed.

I actually vaguely remember seeing her in the outfit but I forget which episode.
>>
>>82596275
Let's be honest, anyone that lived though it remembers clearly how CN's publicity department thoroughly fucked that movie over.
>>
>>82595947
Oh yeah, and that Christmas movie special that taught kids that the true meaning of Christmas isn't about family or togetherness, it's about getting toys. Feel good lessons.
>>
>>82595603
I think it's overrated (espeecially with the reboot) but it's worth checking out.

>>82597812
It's still badass now.
>>
>>82600204
If you watch any episode, watch this one.

>>82595947
The drug episode was fucking hilarious though. Mojo with the trenchcoat and the diverse group of kids (black, asian, fat, wheelchair) were an obvious parody of those sort of shitty PSA episodes.
>>
>>82595790
>>82596141
As far as I'm aware, nuPPG isn't outsourced to Korea.
>>
>>82599683
Ah, yes, now she REALLY is an accident. Retard voice and all.

What was the title of that one? I need to see that again.

>tfw the PPG will never face actual, meaningful threats and consequences again
>>
>>82595790
iirc, old one was made through green-screening the animated bits together
this shit DID start in the 90s, so its earlier animation shouldn't be too good

The new show is supposed to bring HIM back, I really, really hope they don't ruin the character...
but they probably will, if they ruined everybody else.
Now THAT was a good villain, he was perfectly able to fuck with time, bend realities and control minds... not to mention his true form was even more powerful.
>>
>>82600789
It is, actually. Sunmin Animation in SK.

I also liked how incredibly petty he could be sometimes.

>Turns a pinata into a giant monster
>Monster explodes into candy
>He still claims victory because the candy will give them tooth decay
>>
>>82601156
>The new show is supposed to bring HIM back, I really, really hope they don't ruin the character...

He shows up briefly in one episode. His design is basically unchanged, so there's still hope.

No there isn't
>>
>>82601148

Well, not green screen persay... but it *was* optically shot on film like most toons back in the day, which meant fixes weren't cheap.
>>
>>82601282
I meant that I think I read somewhere that they actually chroma-keyed the animation in
>>
>>82601207
>they just shove her out
>>
>>82601036
Mojo Jonesin' was the name of that episode. Loved all the little jabs at Captain Planet in that episode too.
>>
>>82600318

What happened?
>>
>>82595603

Old PPG is god tier. Funny as fuck with great action scenes.
>>
I don't know that it was great enough that I'd go out of my way to watch it all of these years later, but I didn't change the channel when it was on. It was fairly fun.

Honestly, Dexter's Lab is the only one of those episodic children's comedy shows that aired on Cartoon Network that I'd really consider amazing enough to seek it out.
