>The Black Panther has been the protector of Wakanda for generations, a mantle passed from warrior to warrior. Now because your friend murdered my father I also wear the mantle of King. So I ask you, as both warrior and king, how long do you think you can keep your friend safe from me?

Fuck, he was so rad

Yeah, BP was perfect.
>>
I sincerely hope BP's film will be a sequel and not a prequel.

They don't really do that. So far everything in the MCU has been in real time.

I liked how they made his motives purely vengeance, not really being on Team Iron Man but rather just working alongside them because they have similar agendas. That's Black Panther.

Everyone kept going on and on about how awesome Spiderman was in Civil War, but then I actually go to watch it and this motherfucker right here stole the show.

Can't wait for the Black Panther movie. Should be awesome.

Where were you when critics and early viewers were saying just that?
>>
>>82588263

It seems to be a pretty even split among Panther, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man for "supporting character who stole the show."

Probably ignoring critics and early viewers like I was.

The only person whose review I watched that gave props to Black Panther was Andre the Black Nerd.

Everyone else who I read/watched was just all about Spiderman.

>>82588299
Don't think I heard anything at all about Ant-Man getting praise going in. But he did have one of the best exchanges.

Seriously though, I'm going to be so disappointed if he doesn't fight Erik Killmonger in his movie. The stories in the old Jungle Action books where Black Panther and Killmonger clash are my absolute favorites. He never gets used, but Killmonger is the true rival to T'Challa over the throne of Wakanda and in my eyes his true arch nemesis over Klaw or M'Baku.

They have between them the conflict of classic archetypes. They are the King and the Tyrant. T'Challa is the humble and dutiful Warrior King learning how to be a ruler, and in this journey he has to face the shadow of the King archetype in the vainglorious Killmonger, who claims T'Challa is too weak for the throne of Wakanda and has visions of leading their civilization to restored magnificence. Where M'Baku just wants to kill and skin Wakanda like the white ape, Killmonger wants to rule it.

Klaw as a villain was always more of an outside facilitater for Black Panthers true enemies.

Comic books are a marriage of the visual and written mediums. Comic books frame striking imagery in between the pivotal movements and actions of it's characters in the given scene, then adding upon this imagery, it weaves vivid descriptions of the events that elicit the readers senses and emotions in hopes that they will feel immersed in the moment beyond a cursory visual level, breathing in this world and gaining a sense of tactility.

Artists and writers who master this medium are able to craft stories that stimulate your imagination in such a way that you're able to build it's world with immaculate detail and make it feel alive, where you can almost see all of it's movement and action unfolding in your minds eye

>Panther didn't care if they died or not
>Zemo was still dangerous and Panther felt like tackling him first

I'm looking forward to Black Panther's movie so much more now. I was hype before, but I'm so fucking excited now that I've seen him in action. I wonder if any of Team Cap is going to cameo, assuming it's not just Cap and Bucky in Wakanda.

Old school comic books were written by authors of many other things, not just guys that grew up reading a lot of comics. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I thought he was awesome too, but I'm not sure how his standalone film is gonna work. In particular, how can he be challenged in a way that

1) Doesn't warrant the involvement of every other MCU hero, and

2) Is interesting to watch.

If you've seen Jessica Jones you'll know exactly what I mean. That was a threat localized to one small area, and something that Jessica Jones was in a specific position to stop. You can't assume that Cap, Iron Man, etc. could've swooped in and saved the day in 5 seconds.

I never said Cap's origin had anything to do with BP. I was just countering an anon's claim that Marvel's track record has proven that they don't "backtrack" in their timeline with movies. Cap's first film was set in the past. An anon said that it ended in present day. So can BP's film. Until official word, there is nothing keeping the next film from being set or having large set pieces in the past.

Agreed. This ended up being a Black Panther 0.5 and Iron Man 4 to the detriment of its strength as a Captain America 3. Granted, it was a great Black Panther and a way better Iron Man sequel than any before it, but it came at a big opportunity cost.

Fucking RDJ wanting a bigger role.

Not him - I wasn't expecting otherwise but it seemed like it was unfortunately wasted potential. There was a great Winter Soldier Part 2 movie in there with the obviously tacked on Civil War plotline (remember, it wasn't always going to be Civil War). I wasn't disappointed with the film, more disappointed it wasn't the Cap/Bucky/Falcon plot the whole way through with a little help from Black Widow.

Everything Civil War related (including the introduction of Black Panther) should have been used as a RDJ-led Iron Man 4. Although I'm pretty sure there's no more standalone Iron Man films.

On a side note, I was hugely impressed with Falcon this movie, I didn't really like him in TWS and felt his brief performance in Ant-Man was pretty bad.

Mugabe can't do that. He crashed his economy spectacularly, about 3 times. He thought all educated people were secretly working against him, and that educated Africans were secretly pawns of English Queen trying to destabilize his country. He had them all killed or kicked out.

It's both amazing and refreshing that
A) The movie had three black main characters
and
B) They all felt like they fit in pretty well and really helped the story a lot, and were fun characters individually.

I do think they should have tried to differentiate Rhodey and Sam a bit more. Rhodey wasn't nearly as rigid and militaristic as I usually think of him in more serious situations.

To be fair, that's basically what the Europeans did when they showed up to Africa/America and started instituting European agricultural methods where they didn't really work until after years of trial and error. There's actually tons of evidence now that the "natural" state of the plains/rainforest in the central areas of the Western hemisphere continents were essentially industrial-capacity farming operations that rose organically from disparate tribes doing small portions of the land management, somewhat inadvertently.
>>
>>82597852
>Origin story
I hope they do an amalgam/timeskip origin incorporating McGregor's over all story (Panthers Rage) with Erik Killmonger as the antagonist

Kirby/Hudlins origin of T'Challa becoming Black Panther via contest and Shiri because Lupita Nyongo is sexy

and they can throw in there somewhere that Klaw got branded. It should end in present day with T'Challa looking over the waterfall that Kill monger was tossed over and throw in some MCU references to tie it all in.

Hudlin was the CEO of BET. Hudlin was the person behind marrying off Storm to Black Panther. Hudlin was also responsible for the single worst BP run in history, and he only did the run because Marvel and BET came to an agreement where if they let him write it then he'd have it turned into an animated series on their network.

Which, at the very least, got us this fire as fuck jam:

Mugabe rose to power in a wave of anti-white sentiment following the end of British colonial rule back in the late 70's. He was a freedom fighter in his youth, and an activist. He was a major reason why Zimbabwe got its freedom. He was Prime Minister for years, then became President. Keep in mind, the British treated the natives like shit. It really wasn't hard to win on a nationalist platform. He was too caught up in the hate and the fervor, he forgot that his people really didn't know shit about shit. The British South Africa Company had taken over back in the late 1800s and were more than happy to keep the locals oppressed and uneducated.

So, generations later, when they kicked out all the white folks, they were kicking out all the people who'd controlled the means of production for the last century. They lost all that collective knowledge. Once you get past the human rights abuses and the corruption and all the rest, you can see where Mugabe was coming from. It's sad. The whole thing is just really fucking sad.

I felt that way at first, but when I re-watched it, it definitely felt more like a Cap movie than the first time. Cap (and Bucky) drove the action and was the heart of the story and the only other members of the cast who really mattered were Tony and T'Challa. Personally, I could have done with less Tony, but it works better as a Cap film than I originally expected.
>>
>>82599411
Agreed. I dont know what that anon is talking about. Cap was the driving force for pretty much the whole movie. It's actually impressive that even among all these other giant roles in the movie his story still stood out so strongly.
