How come western cartoon companies don't bitch about piracy like video game companies/ music artists or Japanese companies do. They seem rather calm despite losing money every hour.

generally it's the belief that if the product is good, then it'll be patronized, and a bit of pride in wanting people to see it.

Cartoons have mainly a children's audience.

In the information age, it's best for TV animations to get as much recognition as possible. A lot of the good ones are expensive passion projects, and merchandising is where the real money is at.

They make most of their money off merchandise.
they dont fuck around when it comes to piracy, neither does the rest of the world really but they REALLY dont take any shit if you're caught
The creators usually only make money off of initial runs and the companies/Networks don't know about the Internet beyond they're own apps and websites.

Oh, ok. For a moment I thought it was related to minus.
Because cartoons basically don't make money off the episodes or their broadcasts at all. Their profits come from merchandise.
It's a pretty retarded business model, but you can tell. Looks at the commercials that show during a cartoon vs the ones on literally any other broadcast. They make basically no money from viewers.
>>82579985
They value long term brand recognition over getting fast buck.

I know talking about ponies here is banned but Hasbro has been a bitch with lots of artists for years

>minus
t-thanks for the reminder... rest in power ;__;
It's an industry that is fairly small creatively but backed almost entirely by big media corporations. There isn't as much of a competing "indie scene" like there is with music and games.
The artists don't care because the corporations are still paying them (and they just want people to enjoy their stuff), and the corporations are assumably still getting enough revenue to where it isn't a major issue.
