I have 5k something hours in TF2, Overwatch is refreshing, not just from the gameplay perspective, but from the player base as well.
Overwatch has a focus on character abilities, as opposed to weapons on TF2. While this ends up being functionally the same most of the time, it also broadens what the characters are capable of. I.E. Lucio's and Mercy's passives, D.va in general, Tracer's mechanics, etc.
The maps are concise and intuitive, and the gameplay is concise as well. Given the variety of hero abilities (and the nonsensical range of turrets), you really have to make an effort to break a defense or protect an objective, as opposed to spamming turrets from afar/ubering/stabnsap/or stopping all of those options with one airblast.
In general it's a really flashy game, which in itself makes it different. But the gameplay is also pretty decent. If I had to compare it to anything, it would beSMNC. RIP.
