What could have beens

>Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely's original approach was Captain America and Falcon searching for Bucky while Zemo is orchestrating global turmoil. The "Civil War" element was added later on, partially in response to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

>Early drafts written before ANT-MAN's release placed Scott Lang on Iron Man's team.

>In early drafts, T'Challa was just a diplomat advocating for superhero accountability on behalf of Wakanda, and Spider-Man was the outsider who provided a different viewpoint than Captain America's and his followers and Iron Man's and his followers. When negotiations with Sony nearly fell through, Black Panther got propped up, and then Spider-Man became available anyway.

>The Wasp was in earlier drafts, and there was also an extended sequence about Scott Lang's life in San Francisco that got scrapped and never filmed.

>The Russos cut a scene between Black Widow and Black Panther at the German base after the battle in Romania because they felt it was redundant. Overall, roughly 12 minutes have been deleted from their assembly cut.

I kinda hope they stop shitting on Ironman in future films. They've taken everything from him and made it to where everyone hates him, forever.

I'd really like the last movie to be "how tony stark made his life somewhat bearable" staring an iron man suit that doesn't get treated like paper.

>Why the fuck did they paint Tony as a villain?
>They didn't.

They didn't do Tony many favors in this movie. The worst part for Tony was how he used Spider-Man. He threw an untrained kid in against the big boys and girls. Steve called him out on Wanda how she was just a kid and they were treating her like a criminal, or worse like a weapon rather than a person. And then he taps a high school kid for his civil war. I don't think Tony even realized what he was doing until Rhodey asked how old Peter was. Tony sees potentiality, uses. He has a mechanists view of the world, parts to get the job done, He tries to see the potential in people, which is good, but he sometimes has trouble seeing the reality of who they are while blinded by what he thinks they could or should be.

Seems Tony came to his senses when the kid nearly got killed. Then later when he saw how they were treating Wanda on the raft.

Of course the fact that Tony then had his breakdown didn't help.
>>
I loved how they kept Zemo's kinda gay/hate obsession with Cap in the movie by making him notice the green in his eyes as a flaw.

They still didn't though. Tony keeping Wanda locked down was called for, and him getting Peter was fine, too. When Hawkeye goes to get Wanda he mentions something about having a debt to pay to her. Implying his involvement in Quick's death.

I do like how subtle this movie was with passing conversation like how. Like when Peter basically entirely conveys his backstory and even hints at Uncle Ben without the movie having the blatantly brief us on Spiderman's origin story for the 15th time.

I doubt it. They were stuck together like glue and the clash of egos wouldn't work between him and Pietro.

Not to mention Pietro was still salty about his family being blown up by Stark tech.

I wasn't the one calling him a villain, I'm merely pointing out how his character wasn't shown as particularly stable and what he felt were his solutions, his attempts to solve problems, were instead making things worse.

Peter held his own through most of the fight, but you still don't chuck that kid in the deep end. Web slinging some criminals or stopping a speeding car hardly compares with going against Captain America, or the Winter Soldier who Tony has no reason to believe isn't still in full-on assassin mode. The guy nearly shot him in the face! He had no way to know Bucky wouldn't go full lethal weapon on the kid.

Someone might say Tony knew his friend's power levels so he felt Spider-Man was good go to. He'd crunched the numbers or whatever. But this whole situation was about how shit happens in battle that nobody wants. They can't stop everything. They can't foresee everything. And what happened in this fight? Rhodes nearly died. He may never be able to walk without robotic assistance again. That could have happened to the kid. That almost did. What would he have told Peter's unusually hot aunt then?

One thing I really, liked about this was the different philosophies Tony and Steve had towards signing. Steve refuses to sign because he disagrees with it and is too honest to just give lip service to it. If Steve is going to go along with the accords then he's going to abide by them.

For Tony it's a pragmatic thing, this will happen so it's best to "play along" even if you intend on cheating later (having the document amended or just straight up cheating it like when he ducks out to join up with Cap and Bucky at the end).

Yeah, Tony wasn't stable, but his solutions were viable, especially when Cap decides to harbor Bucky. Capture Bucky? Yes. Keep Wanda lockdown because she isn't a U.S. citizen and she, in the eye of the public, is responsible for them dead African people? Yes.
And it's not like he was the sole person making things worse. Cap screws things up as well.

I think when Tony saw WS with Cap, he could have deduced WS wasn't in killmode, And yeah Peter could have died, that's why Tony told him to "keep his distance, web him up". Also the reason why Tony sidelined him when Peter took a giant hand to the body.

Tony is the MCU king of bad ideas. Sometimes it's played for laughs, like buying strawberries with your expensive watch as a peace offering to someone who is allergic to strawberries.

This time it was sending a high school kid to war.

The whole bit about Wanda not being a US citizen and therefore her mistakes must count against her is pretty bullshit when you consider Tony created Ultron which nearly ended in an extinction level event, but hey he's a US citizen so it's perfectly fine. He'll just give some grad students unlimited funding for their projects. I'm sure none of them will end up creating something that can be used as a weapon or get involved in a lab accident that turns them into a super villain.

Vision was right, this all started going down when Tony revealed he was Iron Man. He's created a villain or a threat in every movie he's been in.

It is still a thing because it still has the backing of the US government. And that is still meaningful and a great force.
This also means Ross is free to build his Thunderbolts team now.

The same reason why Natasha's red ledger is washed clean and Tony isn't in jail for building Ultron.

>>
>>82564093
Tony was protecting Wanda from the US Government.

Being grounded and locked in your room is the superior alternative to being locked up in a cell. Tony believed that his actions were the lesser of two evils.

So if Tony didn't do anything, if he didn't lock Wanda in her room. Then what? The government would just go ahead and come for her instead. Either she complies and is placed in a containment facility because the government's composed of a bunch of paranoid assholes, or she refuses and is labeled a criminal. Tony saw no better alternatives.
>>
>>82564130
That's why Tony is so sad in the end. Steve gave him the Avengers but he barely has any Avengers anymore. He has become Tony Stank, now and forever.

>>82564141
Did Hulk serve time for Hulking everywhere?
Did Black Widow serve time for her KGB days?
Did Wanda serve time for being Hydra?
Did Tony serve time for fucking the world with Ultron?

But nah, because it was Stark's parents specifically, Bucky's the only one that deserves to be murdered. Because sad is more justification for murder than legitimate mind control.

No they weren't, because for man as intelligent as he is he should have been able to see more than two solutions that were actually the same solution. Wanda is locked up, by him or the gov it didn't matter. But that wasn't the only choice.

Steve was ready to plant himself by the river of truth and tell them, "No, you move." Tony was busy being drunk and pissing in that river.

Tony had more pressing matters to deal with than babysitting Wanda. Actually Vision made it very clear that he is intentionally obeying Tony's every word, because he wanted to look non-threatening. He is just as dangerous as Wanda and has a mysterious stone that he doesn't have full control over, and he was designed by a killer robot. By all accounts he should be locked up too. But by being a good little root slave, Vision was able to dodge the accuations.

And Vision even asked Wanda to follow his example, not knowing that most humans couldn't do that sort of thing to themselves.

Civil War writers argue that Vision might not be "worthy" anymore. That him no longer being a newborn meant that he could be corrupted by his own experiences and decision, and that he just might need to learn to earn his worthiness from scratch.
>>
>>82564280
The government was after them in AOU and Tony was perfectly fine running when HE was the one responsible for creating the murderbot. Suddenly one tiny corner of a building being blown up was one tragedy too much. He just jumped at the opportunity because for once he had no part in the event so technically his hands were totally clean in Lagos.

The government is fully capable of doing screwy and unethical shit, all the time. Would Tony be fine rounding up Commies for McCarthy? Or flying over Mexico blasting ACDC from his armor until they agree to build President Trump's wall? Would he have been fine confining Rosa Parks to her house because better he's making her stay there than the government rounding her up?

And it's not like we need another thread where people point out all the corrupt or evil government officials we've seen in the MCU so far.

He is the only one who is. The UN doesn't lead anything, when you say "let the UN decide", it generally means it was already decided by a major power and the UN rubberstamps. In this case, Ross is the major power.

It's all that kept Tony from finding his villain origin story, too. Steve spared Bucky and Tony with his interference.

no one said anything about tony bringing a literal baby to the fight

You wouldn't be mad at the guy that put you in jail while your best friend is out trying to stop 5 super soldiers from wrecking the world?
>>

Not really.

It's First Class > Days of Future Past > Apocalypse > Deadpool.

When you see someone crush your dad's face and strangle the life out of your mom, it tends to bring up certain emotions in you. Emotions that may be out of your ability to keep under control.

I swear to God if I saw anything like that happen to my parents, there's a good chance I'd be incarcerated and sentenced to at least two-to-ten years in jail by the end of the day.

Yeah, that struck me as odd when everyone was like "You've got moxy, sport." and not "I don't want to shoot/punch a 15 year old."

Why don't they make one-shots any more? I miss them.

That baby was super OP and only supposed to 'web them in'. Spiderlinger chose to rush into battle himself.

>People complaining that Clint was too much of a jerk.

He's just being written as Clint for the first time in the MCU -- a hotheaded, sarcastic, cocky jerk.

You'd cry right in front of your parents' murderer?

I don't want to start any versus arguments (though I may just have), but yeah Iron Man v Cap is was too much of an obvious answer.

Also, what did FRIDAY do to give Tony that edge at the end?
