Not gonna lie, I did not care before that first movie.
I'd heard that Sam Jackson had a clause in his contract that if Captain America and Thor didn't make above a certain amount that Jackson wasn't obligated to continue in the Nick Fury role. That was the whole reason I walked into the theater the first day of Captain America: The First Avenger.
But not the other ten times I went to see it, nor the number of times I watched the camrip, BD, and mp4 I keep on my psp.
I even commented (before seeing CA:TFA) that I hoped the franchise made it to Civil War just so I could see Cap get sniped. But after watching the first movie I came to /co/ asking "Wait, is this right? This is not what I thought Captain America was" and reading some actual Cap stories instead of just seeing him in cross-overs (I was an X-kid in the 90's) and now he is hands-down my favorite superhero (honorable mention to The Maxx, Earth-22 Superman, and SheZow)
