Just read this and is this the single best Wonder Woman story ever told?
>>
>>82524004
Of course it is, look who's writer.
>>
probably, then again it has no real competition
>>
>>82524004
Yes, because it's not a stacked bench. But it is amazing, even if WW had a better history it'd have a shot at being the best.

Morrison 4 Lyfe
>>
You know, it's funny.

I have dwelled on Wonder Woman, the contradictions that have sprung up within the character, and female action heroes in general for years now and I think a little while ago, it occurred to me that the purest female superhero story would have as little violence in it as possible. Women don't care for violent conflict the same way that men do. So I always thought that the perfect Wonder Woman story would be one where she finds some way to end a conflict non-violently. And that is exactly what Morrison does here. He wrote what I'd always wanted to see and in the process, probably wrote the best version of Wonder Woman to ever be written, drawn, inked upon to hit the pages of sequential art.

This is the single most feminist comic book or at least superhero comic book to ever be written. This book actually tackled feminist issues and themes in such a mature, graceful, intelligent manner. The funny thing is, I can just imagine people looking at the subject matter, the perfect feminist paradise society of hot, sexy women, and rolling their eyes, it being such a seemingly groan-inducing concept to explore, yet Grant Morrison just makes it work, like he always does.

It's also easily the best depiction of Paradise Island ever. It's what I've always wanted to see, a take that actually incorporated and embraced the more fun and crazy comic book sci-fi Golden and Silver-Age concepts from the character's past. There's such a childlike wonder there, and the way Amazonian technology progresses, being influenced by the female consciousness, is absolutely brilliant. It was great seeing the kangas again finally. The vagina planes were cool. The Purple Ray, man.

I was so enamored by this, I really want to check out some books on gender studies and feminist literature. I'm genuinely curious about the subject, even more so than before.
>>
>>82524004
Not really
>>
The warmth that radiates from this book is astonishing. Morrison truly knows how to imbibe his stories with energy that you can feel.
>>
>>82524004
For cuckolds maybe.
>>
kill yourself
>>
Is this the sexier representation of Diana yet?
>>
The only thing I thought was a little dumb was that Hippolyta's magic TV was the reason Steve found Paradise Island. Otherwise great story with great characters. A near-perfect WW origin.

I think I'm alone in this, but Diana really resembled Sasha Grey in the art. I kept on wondering if that was intentional, if the artist (who fucking killed in here btw), based his Wondy on that pornstar.

Otherwise, she's definitely sexy. Basically almost at every opportunity, she's drawn to be ridiculously sexy, to the point where it's actually a little ridiculous. She always seems to be posing in a sexy manner, she always has a sexy look on her face. Same with the rest of the Amazons. Not that I minded, but it was something that I definitely noticed and since the women in Man's World aren't so sexualized, it struck me as a bit of a strange creative choice. They're literally pretty much ALWAYS like that, it's crazy.
>>
>>82524004
Just read it myself, as someone that knows near to 0 about Wonder Woman this was a pretty cool origins book. Will it be continued? Feels like it

Sasha is actually qt af so I'm OK with this.
>>
>>82526668
Judging from something i've read about it, can't remember where, i'm pretty sure Morrison cared to translate how WW origins (as a character irl) were always tied to sexiness and fetishism

But i liked how it can make sense in the story, in a perfect world of female harmony the line between sexy and vulgar would be pretty blurred, wouldn't it?
>>
>>82526757
>Will it be continued? Feels like it

Apparently it's gonna be a trilogy so expect part two around 2025
>>
>>82526757
Yeah it will have 3 parts as with almost all other Earth One graphic novels
>>
>>82524004
Yeah.
>>
>>82526783
Sasha Grey's a qt, if also a turboslut. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

>inb4 someone has a problem with my usage of the word "turboslut"

>>82526816
Oh I understand, it's just that the extent to which the Amazons were portrayed as essentially flawlessly sexy people was a little ridiculous. They're all perfect examples of feminine beauty in every panel, practically oozing sex in some of them even when it didn't really fit the scene, though again it wasn't really something that was a big enough deal to bother me and I did see why they went in that direction.
>>
>>82526816
Sexy and vulgar wouldn't be associated at all. Such a thing is a product of society's desire to stigmatize female sexuality in an attempt to monopolize breeding rights. A matriarchy has no need for that kind of psychology.
>>
>>82526668
>I think I'm alone in this
No you're not
>>
It has nothing on Marston's run.
>>
>>82524004
No.

It's pretty good, but nah, it's not the best WW story ever written.
>>

For fuck's sakes.

>>82527233
I've pointed this out before but no one seemed to agree with me.
>>
>>82527317
Marston and Azz both wrote great runs.

This is a good story, but I don't really think it's the greatest piece of WW fiction ever. It was probably on par, as a relatively short story, with Hiketeia.
>>
>>82524232
>I think a little while ago, it occurred to me that the purest female superhero story would have as little violence in it as possible. Women don't care for violent conflict the same way that men do. So I always thought that the perfect Wonder Woman story would be one where she finds some way to end a conflict non-violently.
Funny thing is, that's the entire originating concept of Wonder Woman. Marston's whole concept was a superhero who "would triumph not with fists or firepower, but with love".
Which only makes the recent HURRDURR SWORD AND SHIELD MOST VIOLENT LEAGUER Wondy more tragic.
The "perfect Wonder Woman" I have in my head knows how to fight, but far more importantly, she knows WHEN to fight. I haven't read WW:E1 yet. Does it sound fitting for me?
>>
>>82527667
>Which only makes the recent HURRDURR SWORD AND SHIELD MOST VIOLENT LEAGUER Wondy more tragic.
I really dislike it when Wondy is super willing to kill, like all the time and goes around snapping peoples' necks left and right. I don't like it when she's constantly angry either. She should be even more compassionate and even less willing to kill than even Superman.

>I haven't read WW:E1 yet. Does it sound fitting for me?
Pretty much. Read that shit.
>>
>>82527667
While E1 wondy is not another violent WW interpretation that misses the point of her character, she is also not a very reasonable one. The story is mostly just her rebelling against mommy and experiencing extremely bizarre culture shock. It's trippy to read at least.
>>
>>82527773
Absolutely. Back in... I think it was the first arc of New 52 Justice League? When she saw the Parademon and was all "hot damn something I can kill?" That was when I dropped New 52 Wondy.
>>82527781
Sounds fair enough for an origin, though. Like... this sounds like someone who could grow into the Diana I love, not the complete polar opposite.
>>
>>82527781
>While E1 wondy is not another violent WW interpretation that misses the point of her character, she is also not a very reasonable one.
She's far more reasonable than the society she's a product of.

>The story is mostly just her rebelling against mommy and experiencing extremely bizarre culture shock.
So every WW story ever?
>>
>>82527667
>Which only makes the recent HURRDURR SWORD AND SHIELD MOST VIOLENT LEAGUER Wondy more tragic.

I'm the guy that knew 0 about WW, i have to say i usually like when she's portrayed like that (in Kingdom Come or TDKSA, for example) because it made her stand out from the rest of the League and really sold me the idea of a warrior woman that spent most of her life stuck of an island of warrior women

I was told before that a lot of WW fans didn't like such depictions, but only now that i've read this i really understand why, it does weaken her character is she is just another Amazon
>>
>>82527859
>So every WW story ever?
Spoken like a man who has never read WW
>>
>>82527660
>Marston and Azz both wrote great runs.
The Azz run is a good story but I won't say it's a good Wonder Woman story. I don't think he built upon her character enough. Most of the side characters were more interesting than she was, which is a shame.

Probably, another anon pointed out the similarity and a few anons and I concurred.

All things considered, its a nice touch, even if unintentional.
>>
>>82527903
The first few JL stories are widely believed to have been ghostwritten by Jim Lee. Considering the change in quality and characterization by the time we get to Throne of Atlantis, I'm inclined to believe it.

>>82527902
Azz wrote her as a Stoic. She's the rock to which all the other characters anchor themselves.

>>82527835
The first arc of JL occurred soon after Wondy came to Man's World, it's literally the exact same scenario of rebelling against mommy and experiencing culture shock. Keep in mind WW was canonically 18 during JL issue one.

>>82527382
After reading it, nah I don't think so. While I think it makes some points, I didn't think the Amazons were necessarily the "bad guys." Definitely in an antagonistic role and certainly misandrist, but there WERE no true bad guys.
>>
>>82528362

I recognize his art from Seven Soldiers: Bulleteer. Fantastic artist.

This is probably the sexiest Wondy has ever been barring Lynda Carter.

The point is to get that money cum shot from the guy. It doesn't matter if the girl is enjoying it or not. As long as she makes sex noises and pretends to like it than the rest doesn't matter.
>>
>>82528321
Azz Wondy is just boring as all hell. Whether she's stoic or whatever. I'd rather have a Wonder Woman run were she's actually an interesting character rather than using her to introduce new ones and play with them. I also hate his version of the amazons.
>>
>>82529480
Have you seen the touring schedules of some bands? In a new city every fucking day for a year and you somehow have to manage to seem energetic and excited every time. Then you do it all again next year, and the next, and the next, until you get like a year off to make a new album, so you can do it all again. That's gotta wear on you.
>>
>>82529107
>It saddens me to think porn is not a great job.
Mainstream porn might not be so bad but all the amateur stuff isn't so great for a lot of the girls involved (from a psychological perspective).

While on the subject, there's a film which covers the topic of amateur porn called (I think) "Hot Girls Wanted." It was on Netflix. I'm not sure if it still is. Anyway, if you're interested I recommend giving it a watch.
>>
>>82529650
I wish there would be some petition to end fake sex noises. It grates on the soul, especially in jap porn.
>>
>>82529160
It's worse for men

Most have to go gay for pay, and they're paid less than women
>>
>>82529762
Then there probably wouldn't be any noise. Porn is filmed to look good for the viewer, not to be pleasurable for participating parties
>>
>>82529762
>It grates on the soul, especially in jap porn.
Oh dear lord. They scream like they're being murdered with a length of concertina wire.

This.

Porn is to real sex want the Fast and the Furious movies are to real driving. It's meant to look good and by attention grabbing, not to be practical and realistic.

I haven't read a terrible lot of Wonder Woman, so I won't say that it was or wasn't "the greatest"

But frankly it was mediocre as all fuck.

"Diana tries to put a collar on a black man" hurr-de-hurr-hurr

"Diana is the daughter of Hercules" because god all mighty we just HAVE to explain her birth other than her being a gift from the gods to Hippolyta.

Diana's Wonder Woman outfit is a sorority initiation because ?????

Diana is confused by man's word even though we've established her mother has a mirror that lets her see it.

It had some good stuff, mind. Paradise Island being full of bondage lesbians? A+ Marsten would approve.

Etta Candy being fat and proud of it? Hell yeah.

But at the end of the day it's just another fucking origin story that tries to fix a bunch of shit that wasn't broken in the first place and explain who puts the fucking air in the invisible jet's tires.
