>>
>>82524368
Some random B-list villain from the comic itself makes a magic candle which turns the Plutonian into a normal person when lit. Modeus uses some sort of ray gun to age him up until he can't even walk in a flashback, and when he takes over Bette Noir's body he's able to repurpose the latent superpower that makes her never miss in order to do some bullshit like redirect the energy of several supernovas into her punches to just straight beat the hell out of him, and that's after Qubit's training has made him aware enough of his reality warping powers to be able to literally will the moon to stop spinning

There's also the procedure that gives Max Damage his powers, and that can be used on anyone. He becomes acknowledged as a superhero when he essentially tells the Plutonian to GTFO of the city

He's extremely dangerous but not invincible.

For context,

The skelekids are the result of an alien virus caused by a device that the Plutonian gave to a government scientist to make them shut the fuck up about the plutonian not trusting them.

He gave the scientist a specific SOS beacon to use should anything go wrong.

Oh, and the virus travels via soundwaves, so when the Plutonian strikes down it just spreads the virus by like 100 times.

IIRC, It was really a cascade of things. On top of everything that people have already said...

His sidekick/best friend/probably the only person who the Plutonian felt validated by finds out that he handed over the tech to the scientist that caused the sound virus. Sidekick basically says to his face "I thought you were supposed to be a hero." or something like that and Plutonian just snaps.

Yeah I really felt bad for him at the end. The story is basically about a Superman-character that lacks the invincible, infallible moral center of Superman.

wasn't that guy who had a twin stronger than the Plutonian after he absorbed his twin?

But then he got killed randomly by some retard backstabbing him with a sword for some white-knight-y reason.

It feels like they kiled him off just so that Plutonian would be the strongest again necessitating a final fight between plutonian and his nemesis who possessed the body of that woman with black hair

Superman, duh.

Plutonian's whole deal is that he's an imperfect version of Superman.
>>
>>82524327
As it's been said, it was due to a cascade of things.

One of those things is the fact that Tony was really just a selfish and childish man who wanted to be liked by everyone, and becomes increasingly frustrated at the humans who want him to do more than he has ALREADY done. Remember when he went to the scientist and gave him the alien technology to repurpose it? All of that was due to Plutonian's own selfish desires to look good, due to the fact that the scientist was making him look bad. He didn't want to look bad, so in order to make the scientist stop shit talking about him, he did something that was not a smart thing to do because he couldn't help but want to be liked by everyone. Eventually, I think when he comes to the conclusion that it's impossible to get the humans to like him, he just decides to break loose and become evil.

I think what caused him to snap for good is his sidekick finding out that he caused the skelekids incident. He was always a ticking time bomb, but when the one person who probably validated his existence as a hero suddenly did not think that he was hero at all, it was the straw that broke the camel's back, which led him to going into the point of no return.

>>
>>82531459
And Earth just happened to be the very first world they came across in this universe?
>>
>>82531343

>plot armor

You honestly do not understand the entire point of Saitma at all.

Plot armor is Captain America somehow still surviving a war wherein he's one of the few humans among superpowered beings fighting in it.

Plot armor is Wolverine being able to regenerate from almost nothing at all.

Plot armor is what protects weaker characters from dying like fodder.

Saitama gained limitless strength and is able to KO anything that comes his way. Read the Garou arc if you still don't fully understand how Saitama's power came to be.

If anything, Genos is the one with plot armor.
>>
>>82532467
Plot armor is the perfect term for it. One Punch Man is intentionally poking fun at power levels. Saitama wins because he is supposed to win and that's it.

>Isn't he like Silver Age Superman levels of ridiculous powers?

Good Morning Plutoboy! Wanna /randomadventureXD/?
>>
>>82532518

Saitama wins because he was written with the power to win every fight in one punch. That's not plot, that's characterization.

Occasionally he might get into a situation which could potentially can't be solved in a punch and the plot will save him, getting punched conveniently into the moon instead of any other trajectory away from Earth for instance. Exception to prove the rule.

When a character wins most of the time through strings of unlikely coincidences playing to his strength and avoiding his weaknesses ... that's plot armor. Think Batman and Captain America.
>>
>>82532838
He can't lose because the plot demands it, else it wouldn't be making fun of power levels.

>>
>>82533172
Plutonian moves fast because he decreases his own density and increases the density of the air around him, squeezing himself forward. Dr. M could probably do that but simply has never needed to, because he can teleport. Also Dr. M can create duplicates of himself, so he not only can be anywhere instantly, he can be multiple places at the same time.

So unless Plutonian becomes a lot smarter and learns how to produce Tachyons...

It is my understanding that Plutonian's only power is to alter matter. For example, he doesn't have x-ray vision, he just alters barriers such that electromagnetic waves can reach him at visible wavelengths.

I mean if you say so, but do they explain HOW he has supermhuman reflexes?

Does Plutonian have superhuman intelligence like Superman? I always associated Superman's infallible morality not just with his upbringing but also with his great intelligence.

Silver Age/All-Star Superman would wreck Plutonian so hard.

I remember in the Gardner Fox story that featured Amazo Amazo stole all the powers of the Justice League but Superman's. Why not Superman's? Because Superman was too Super to have his power stolen.

He was so OP the ancient gods got mad jelly and created a super god named Zha-Vam that had all their powers (as in ALL the gods) in his belt. That's how broken you have to be to keep up with Silver Age Superman.

And Superman beat Zha-Vam by outwitting him (and taking advantage of the fact the ancient gods NEVER got along). If all else fails against the Plutonian he just goes back and time and super-sciences something to win. People always forget Silver Age Superman was like Reed Richards before Reed Richards.

NOT DICKHEADS:

Marvel Knight's Sentry (pre character assassination)

Hickman Hyperion.

Squadron Supreme Hyperion (he did take over the world but he was still a good man. Think Red Son Superman)

Alan Moore Supreme

Sungod

That's actually kind of disturbing.

Just on a basic subjective axis of GOOD or EVIL:

EVIL:

Omni-Man
King Hyperion
Squadron Sinister Hyperion
Homelander
Bendis Sentry
Liefeld Supreme
Plutonian
Stardust
Supreme Power Hyperion (don't even try defending him)

GOOD:
Captain Marvel
Squadron Supreme Hyperion
Hickman Hyperion
Sungod
Marvel Knights Sentry
Alan Moore Supreme
Mr. Majestic (compared to the others he's fine)
The Astro City Superman whose name escapes me.

That's just all the ones I can think of, but there are about as many good supermen as evil supermen it seems.

And technically every world in Multiversity has their own Superman. So you can add 52(+) to the good column baring guys like Ultraman.

>>82534363
I'll never forget the first time he fought he Parasite. Parasite is handing him his ass and is just about to kill him, but decides to absorb his "super-mentality", because SA Superman is a genius.

He explodes.

Which makes one wonder just what SA Superman thinks about for his mind to have the same effect as staring in the face of a Great Old One.

2. He fights really, really powerful guys. Bizarro is him but retarded. The Phantom Zone is filled with guys that are him but evil. Mxy is so OP he punks the Spectre. Zha-Vam had the power of every. single. ancient god form Vishnu to Vulcan. Brainiac keeps Death-Star class lasers in his back pocket.

Grant Morrison and SA writers were apparently the only ones smart enough to realize that being uber doesn't mean you can't write stories with Superman. You just bring in really power bad guys.

No, the thing about Tony is that he made some mistakes, just like everyone else.

But unlike everyone else, neither is he ever forgiven for them, nor is he ever allowed to move past his mistakes.

That's how Mark Waid ultimately interprets superheroes: if your powers, enemies and adventures are grandiose, if something like love can be this earth-shattering power, then the flipside to that is that your fuckups, their ramifications, and also their reckoning, must also be so much more bigger and powerful than real life.

This is why Irredeemable is the best superhero comic since Watchmen, and deserves to be held in just as high regard.
>>
>>82533961
A lot of people don't like Superman because the concept of an altruistic fictional character who inspires others to be altruistic rustles their jimmies because they feel they are not good people themselves and it makes them feel bad so they feel the need to "deconstruct" the character.
Other people just think it'd be cool to see a character with power and no morality fly around wrecking shit.

My problem with Irredeemable is that I was expecting to see a story of a completely sane hero (with a mind similar to Superman, since he's an analogue) would fall and break.
What I got is a psychotic guy that was fucked since he was a kid.
I mean, sure, the comic give us the reasons for why he was already hanging on a thread, but I wanted to see what would make an adult hero break. Instead of that, Plutonian was a time bomb that had been waiting to explode for about two decades.

Still, I enjoyed it greatly. Probably gonna read it again after this thread.
By the way, the reporter woman was a huge bitch. I got mad when I read that part, can't help to think the Plutonian wouldn't have snapped if he'd gotten someone who could understood him.

It's just a shame that DC had to go down the dark and depressing road too quickly. If their films had been a bit more upbeat then this would have been an amazing satire of the entire genre, instead of just kind of following in their footsteps.

It wasn't the parents who were leaking. They tried to nuke the SHIT out of them prior and they had sealed themselves off so that humanity wasn't wiped out since they were effectively immortal and the radiation would eventually decay.

Problem is that they used them to 'kill' Tony by removing him through entropy but then Doctor Who decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and got Tony to do some convoluted action that resulted in him being the idea for Superman, while Tony thought he'd brain fuck everyone into forgiving him.

Survivor/Cary was the source of the power. The assumption was that the power was evenly split between the twins BECAUSE they were twins. Not because Cary was giving power to his siblings.

Barbarian guy therefore assumed that killing Survivor would mean the 3rd triplet would get ALL the power and not become a colossal douche but then they revealed that Cary was the fountain from which the other 2 got their own powers and killing him left them without a Survivor, who was feasible enough to fight Plutonian, if not beat him.
