SONY ALWAYS WINS BABY!

Just wait until the Valiant movie universe knocks out the MCU
>>
>>82523043
>>82522644

Given the just constant stream of sewage out of Sony, I find myself wondering "SHOULD Disney be stopped?" Because at least I can enjoy Disney movies.
>>
>>82523097
>Sony
>Not "the rest of the AAA movie industry"
Disney can and will be stopped when the industry comes up with something better. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my near perfect blockbusters punctuated by movies like Drive, Dope, and Pacific Rim.

Entry level shit for sure, but something the people with actual money aren't going to take a chance on. Maybe if the GitS movie does well they'll start adapting the Toonami line-up? I'm guessing we'll get one good, heart-filled adaptation out of the bunch.
>>
No.

Soon they shall control everything. All hail the mouse

>>82523097
Yeah this. Like holy shit, Sony can't stop derping all over itself and scrambling for a new property, WB is still getting it's feet wet but still can't match up and I think the less said about Universal right now the better

>>82523198
I never want live-action anime adaptations to be popular. Ever.
>>
>>82523256
>I never want live-action anime adaptations to be popular. Ever.
agreed.
A lot of the charm is lost if they go live action
Also anon doesn't get that if successful we will see a very serious overhaul in anime and manga like we did in comics where they will use that medium to market to the movies and vice versa
>>
>>82523198
Universal is their only real competition as far as blockbusters go. Last year they had Jurassic World, Furious 7, Minions, Straight Outta Compton, Pitch Perfect 2 and 50 Shades of Grey, all big hits although obviously 50 Shades is shit. Disney meanwhile had Star Wars The Force Awakens, Avengers 2, Inside Out, Cinderela and Ant Man as big hits. Problem is Disney has continued their forward momentum while Universal for the moment seems fresh out of good ideas, if The Huntsman Winters War is any example.

They'll be stopped some ti e around the BFG and Pete's Dragon. At least 1 if not both them are going to bomb. They'll pick it up again with a minor hit in Queen of Katwe and than go back to the top with Dwayne Johnson's Moana.

They still have GotG 2, the next Star Wars episodic release, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Toy Story 4. How did we even get to 4 by the way? How do you write a fourth Toy Story movie?
>>
>>82525701
With a new set of characters.
>>
>>82525810

Apparently another adventure, this time to find Little Bo Peep.

As long as it has Toy Story in the title, it will probably break through to a billion at the box office. So no, Disney can not apparently be stopped.
>>
>>82526109
They should've just made more tv specials. Those were enjoyable enough without breaking apart the movies' trilogy status.
>>
>>82526109
And don't forget they're making a Maleficent-esque movie about Cruella Deville called Cruella and a Jungle Cruise movie starring Dwayne Johnson.
>>
>>82522644
No
But that's mainly because Disney is the only company not lighting themselves on fire daily. It's truly amazing how incompetent the rest of the industry is.
>>
Yes, it competes with my show
>>
>>82527015
Disney IS incompetent. They wanted to appeal to boys? They bought Star Wars AND turned into Feminism The Movie. What little boy looks at Rey and says that he wants to be the girl? No boy worth his salt and if he says it? His peers will mock him for it. Fuck Disney's Gynocentrism garbage propaganda.

Are you kidding me, that's genius. Boys are already buying Star Wars stuff and will continue to do so no matter what. By adding Mary Sue Rey you get girls buying it too. So the boys have their Finn jackets and their Kylo Ren masks and the girls have their Rey goggles and pink t-shirts with her face on it.

It worked too. Disney made a 3 Billion dollar profit last fiscal quarter, best in company history, driven mainly by ticket sales, Disney park events, merch and licensing deals related to the Force Awakens.

What girls, though?

Since the movie has come out, I have yet to see a single young female aspire to Rey or her existence. Of course, we still see young boys who go "star wars!", but not for her. BB-8 is what caught their attention, because Rey is a top tier shit character.

That was the biggest fail ever to try and make nerdy females. The only way that works is with magic and vampires, apparently.

Well, maybe not always for her, but her inclusion still worked in reeling them in. If those little girls just happened to be smarter than their older counterparts and ignored the pandering for better characters it still doesn't change that some older women went out to buy Star Wars stuff when they might not have otherwise.

What else will they add to their entertainment empire?

I can't imagine it will do anywhere near as well. Putting aside the fact that many people and parnet will probably be star wars out by Fall of this year, there is just a lack of clearly marketable characters. No, no, and no. Moana WILL bomb, and Disney fucking knows it. Brown princesses are box office cancer. There's a reason they're shifting their merchandising attention from Moana to Zootopia. They saw the writing on the wall, because they know all too well what's gonna happen.

First of all, Princess and the frog didn't bomb it did good, but not great and apparently has done well on DVD and in merch. If Tiana's movie had done horribly than facilier wouldn't be on the Halloween parade every year and she wouldn't be on as much merch as she is.

Second, you're forgetting one thing. Like Eddie Murphy in Mulan and Robin Williams in Aladdin, a star has been brought in to carry the movie for our non-white princess. And he's currently the biggest movie star on the planet.

PATF made 267 million worldwide. That's chump change to Disney, and, for as a flagship Disney film, it's considered a failure. The only thing the movie has going for it is the Rock, and something tells me the demographic the audience is being marketed to doesn't care much about Dwayne. It's gonna make 500 million, in the VERY best case scenario.
>>
>>82528099

RDJ's drawing power is like Chris Pines, very specific to his particular star making vehicle. Take him out of Iron Man and the only other successful films he has in this era of his career are the Sherlock Holmes one, which aren't even getting made anymore. Chris Pine similarly, can;t buy a hit outside of Star trek.

Dwayne on the other hand is a big deal in everything he's in and hasn't had a flop since race to witch mountain.

Disney is one of the largest companies in the world. They have enough money to buy politicians and change the laws and their media inoculates people into the fold. One day the business world will have enough power to drop all pretense about nations and governments having any power. They'll be stopped around the time they run out of animated films to turn into live action blockbusters. After the deaths of Walt and Roy Disney, the position of CEO was handed to Ron Miller, Walt's son-in-law (who was trained by Walt and Roy). Despite quite a few successes to his name, on the whole, Miller was a crappy leader (to the point that that the company was routinely targeted by corporate raiders) and was ousted in 1984, replaced by the Disney Triumvirate: former Paramount CEO Michael Eisner, former Warner Bros. Vice Chairman Frank Wells, and former Paramount president of production Jeffrey Katzenberg.

The Triumvirate worked out very well for a decade (indeed, under its leadership, we saw the birth of the Disney Renaissance), until Wells was killed in a helicopter accident in 1994. Without him to temper Eisner's control freak nature, Eisner and Katzenberg had a major falling out, prompting the latter to leave Disney later that year and co-found its modern rival: DreamWorks.

Eisner was himself ousted in 2005, and was replaced as Disney's CEO by ABC Chairman and Disney president (thus the number two executive in the company, right below Eisner himself) Bob Iger, who is its current CEO.

It was under Iger that Disney acquired Pixar (in 2006; up until then, Disney was merely Pixar's distributor and the owner of the resulting IPs), Marvel (in 2009), and Lucasfilm (in 2012). Iger plans to remain as Disney's CEO until June 30, 2018.

They became unstoppable once they bought Lucasfilm for chump change. I mean, that's it. They won. Fuck it. They are so deep in property riches that once they got Marvel and Star Wars they literally said fuck Tron and dropped it.

Tron is literally dead, not because it failed to make money but because they don;t need it to make money. There hasn't been a Pirates movie, old standby in 5 years because fuck it, they don;t need. It's now a mid tier franchise.

For both, really. Disney gets yet another giant wad of frothing, ravenous fanboys, and GW hopefully gets a new product director whose main motive isn't "Let's take everything our customers like and systemically destroy it and then wonder why people are mad"

Looking at Marvel and Star Wars, I sincerely doubt Disney owning GW would change that.
>>

You know darn well that the people who are mad at Disney's business and creative decisions for Lucasfilm and Marvel properties are a subset of a fringe group. If that weren't true, the company wouldn't be coming off of their best fiscal quarter in company history.

a lot of the jokes called for phones and frankly it would have been retarded for them not to shill there own phone and considering they were being introduced to technology by 1 person it makes sense they would all go with the phone he suggests

its possible those phone jokes were only written as an excuse to put sonys products in but i doubt it

If Disney were to buy another video game company, I think they'd probably want to buy Square-Enix just to keep the lucrative Kingdom Hearts franchise going (and do so in-house), but IIRC, Japanese laws prevent Japanese companies from being bought by foreign companies, so they couldn't do that anyway (and Square-Enix could never possibly hope to have the money to buy motherfucking Disney).

Incidentally, Ghost in the Shell is no longer part of that schedule. DreamWorks Pictures (which will likely need a new name and logo now that Comcast bought DreamWorks Animation [which DW Pictures had been licensing said name and logo from since their split in 2004]) is now having Paramount distribute their movies, starting with Ghost in the Shell.

Making movies is hard. On average the film industry earns less money than if you would just put that same amount of investment cash into a savings account. This means the hits only barely cover the losses of the bombs, and you can only succeed by being VERY careful with what you make. Making good movies was never a sure thing.

It's not that they lack the ability to take actions which frighten me. Someone with their kind of power could easily trample the world if that was their intent. I just don't think they have done that (much) or that they will in the future. Disney's got the power to do some terrible stuff, but instead they're selling movies, toys, clothes, and theme park tickets. Why? Because it pays better. The entertainment business has done so well for them that I doubt they have greater ambitions.
