Well it's not really a coincidence, Hank invented Pym Particles and got shrunk down inside an ant hive, spent a few nightmarish days being hunted by giant ants and judo throwing them about, then when he got back to his old size he made sure he'd never have anything to fear from giant ants again. It was a safety precaution.
