Good evening owls of /co/,

Levitz/Giffen, this'll be great and cheerful!
>>
hehe
>>

so what's good today because all I read is New Avengers wherein WICCAN'S KOOKY QUARTET and keikaku were at hand
>>

Hello Storyteller.

Goodness, Tinya got jacked. Phantom BEEF.
>>
I think you can pinpoint the exact moment Giffen stops giving a shit

Thunderbolts and Punisher were disappointing

At least Midnighter was great. Makes me want more Middy and Polly when it won't happen. ;_;

Bless his heart, Keef is pretty vulnerable to that.

>>82482735
isn't it great?

I do really like the Kirby in his art
>>
>>82482675
So, what was happening when we jumped back over to LL?
New Fatal Five and Ayla and Vi being awful aunts to Garridan?
>>
>>82482729
Ewing is a gift. The issue wasn't even that great but the TRIPLE AGENT page had me yelping. I find his character development can be a little staggered but he's dead good with character voices straight from the starting line.
>>
>>82482729
Contest of Champions officially brought Night Thrasher back to 616.
Also, Thunderbolts was... not worth it.
>>
>>82482768
I will give props to Dillion though, for having variety in his faces and not just having Frankface.
>>
>>82482768
Thunderbolts was like if Injustice was made in the 90's.
>>
>>82482783
Holy crap, Steve Dillon remembered how to draw a second face!
>>
>>82482729

I thought A-Force was fun, read it for the art. I actually liked T-Bolts warts and all. The art does something for me so I dig it. Punisher was fine imitation Ennis, hope it finds a voice.

Scarlet Witch was pretty
>>
>>82482783
Ah yes, I did see /k/ came over and had a good solid WTF laugh about that one

>>82482800

>>82482805

>>82482832
this is not making me want to read it :(
>>
>>82482729
Someone claimed to be you in the TBolts #1 storytime.

If you haven't actually read it yet, I will say that the good thing about it is none of the 'bolts I really like are in it.
>>
>>82482729
Thunderbolts was disappointing. It was all around kind of a nothing first issue, and the only thing of note was the stupid ending. Kinda get the feeling the writer doesn't give a shit.

Oh, and apparently the plot is going to involve Inhumans. Because they haven't been shoved into enough stuff.
>>
>>82482768
>Thunderbolts and Punisher were disappointing
I've got THOUGHTS about Thunderbolts. I didn't think it was as bad as that thread implies and I think there's a really conscious revisitation of the 90s 'Bolts in there. But certainly, it's hard to see it being as good as what Ewing or, say, even Seeley might deliver on that team book.
>>
>>82482800
I honestly think they might have retconned Validus being Garth and Imra's kid.
>>
>>82482853
GODDAMMIT PAUL

>>82482878

>>
>>82482729
Thunderbolts is one where if the art wasn't so shitty I could have forgiven it a little story-wise. Like maybe characterization and such could be smoothed over in time. I don't know.
>>
>>82482832
Oh come on, do you really think that? What happened on the last page there, especially with such an easily fixable setup, is not quite in the same league as the Joker tricking Superman into murdering his pregnant wife.

I will say super-powered and uncontrollable kid is one of my least favourite tropes. But people are sure as shit not looking at that book with a fair eye.
>>
>>82482907
best Retroboot ship, dead in the water

>>82482892
I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter tomorrow night after I read it myself
>>
I told you Thunderbolts wouldn't be good. Zub is not a good writer.
>>
>>82482907
And Dirk was finally getting some non-mean characterization, too.
>>
>>82482795
>isn't it great?
>I do really like the Kirby in his art
I will never understand why so many people get mad when female superheroes actually look capable of their jobs. Like, they get legit angry when anyone dare suggests a female cape maybe ought to be muscular.

>>82482800
>Ayla and Vi being awful aunts to Garridan?
Seriously, do they not realize? What the fuck.
>>
>>82482805
It's one of the last books out there that still has me laughing out loud.

I don't know why Ewing's jokes still land, but basically, he stays pretty in-character for his punchlines and it works. Songbird is still Songbird, and the humor involving her is purely secondhand.
>>
>>82482729
Ewing keeps killing it everywhere. He's not the guy who will write the most mindblowing comic you've ever read, but if you want good superhero stories with interesting, consistent characters? He is the fucking guy. Focusing on Billy stepping up to the plate as a leader is a great way to add more to his character and get him out of generic hell, Squirrel Girl focusing more on changing instead of fighting was great, Plunderer was just a really fun villain... so much to enjoy.

Midnighter was a great send off and Orlando's message from the heart of a gay man getting to be the hero - the lead character, not the supporting cast, not the villain, but the hero - and getting to be openly gay with no restraint, was fantastic.

I really wish DC had hyped that book more.
>>
>>82483004
>>82483042
I don't think Imra ever told the Legion proper what was up with Validus, did she?

>>82483066
That's what it is--the humor grows out of the character situations instead of being pasted on
>>
>>82483042
Really? What about all the female beefcake threads? Now granted, that is mostly fetishism but it still shows people are OK with beefier women.
>>
>>82483004
Fair disclosure: 90s art doesn't really bother me if it's not Liefeld's worst excesses tier. I'm excited to see your reaction! I do think you are gonna fucking hate the last page.
>>
>>82482892
It's literally difficult for me to even focus on the writing there through that art. I couldn't believe that shit. Zub got a rough hand.
>>
>>82483135
I think that marketing got the wrong idea about the 90s coming back.
>>
>>82482907
It's the future, right? Couldn't they just give him a new head? They gave Garth and Brek new arms.
>>
>>82483098
>>82483093
Ewing's comics give me the feel of a lived-in MU that I've missed in so many of the #relatable books
>>
>>82483098
>I don't think Imra ever told the Legion proper what was up with Validus, did she?
I honestly don't know. Not really sure if or why she would keep that a secret.

>>82483111
In my experience, those threads tend to have more whining about the concept than anything.
>>
>>82482768

The biggest issue to me is that it's legitimate family. Hell, Ayla had a video call from the boys not too long ago with them running around playing pirate. If anyone should know, it's her, y'know?
>>
We're approaching the apex of dumb tonight then.

It's all my fault!
>>
>>82483183
It really, really reminds me of older Marvel stuff. 70s and 80s stuff, where there was a shared world, of course, but everyone kind of had their own ongoing lives, instead of just constantly being caught in bigger and bigger crises.
>>
>>82483093
Ewing hits it so well with so many different characters, in books that have significant differences in tone. In a perfect world he would be where Bendis is for Marvel.
>>

WHOOPS those are not harmless beep boops

say, solicits when?
>>
>>82483198
Let see:
>Original- Turns traitor, dies shamefully then is forced to live as a horrible burning corpse before being shot
>Reboot-Doesn't get to do much, once got turned into a horrible monster, eventually got destroyed with the rest of the Reboot universe
>Threeboot-Gets to be a leader of sorts for once, goes off on his own, ends up getting killed in Lo3W
>Retroboot-Dies pointlessly
Pretty bad luck.

I'd still prefer her over retconning Jean out of the some of the best parts of X-Men, and destroying Scott's marriage.

Actually, yes. But at least then, we got to enjoy the sight of Winema writhing in pain and learning to be less of a jerk.

You're right, somebody quitting the X-Men and hanging out with new people is so much more contrived than a dead woman hibernating in a cocoon at the bottom of the sea and someone's wife turning out to be a broodmare harboring the fragmented consciousness of said dead woman and also a cosmic entity's.

As an impetus to bring the guys back together, and the future cause of Cyclops marriage collapsing, yeah, she's a worse choice. Like "The main antagonist for this X-Men nostalgia book will be the Owl" bad.

X-Factor was really conceptually bad before Wheezy tookover, basically.

>>82484895

No, she just made Cameron Hodge a villain who was manipulating Warren because Warren is an idiot.

Why is Iron Fist being brought up HERE? I mean, Namor has nothing to do with Danny. It'd make more sense for the X-Men, since Claremont worked worked on Danny's solo too, and more importantly they actually know who the fuck he is.

That tends to be a problem with modern fantasy writers. Just don't know when to trim the fat. It's why I'm hesitant to start reading the Malazan series.

>I fucking love magi-tech

Yea, you'll dig Perdido. Mieville toys with concepts that can easily work as standalone stories.
