ITT: Rick and Morty

I've been watching Rick and Morty sine it was just a pilot. This has to be one of the best show ever made..

Man, if that's the case, why do we shit on Reddit so much?
>>
>>82483562

Because they're braindead lemmings. R&M is undoubtedly reddit. It panders to their avowed love of pop-science and their juvenile autodidact understanding of nihilism.

I don't know anon, I think it's pretty good, s2 ep3 had one of the saddest moments in recent cartoon history
>>
i just watch it when i get drunk

great drunk show

a hamfisted suicide attempt with a sappy soundtrack thrown in the last moments of an episode with no build up does not for 'sad' make.

You're just dumb enough to be lead around by the nose with visual & audio cues. "It's suppose to make me sad so it must be sad!"

It's like a Bambi's mom dying moment. It's just thrown at the audience for the sole purpose of evoking an emotional response without any effort or nuance. You literally are the "reddit" audience.

I know it's highly divisive, but just look at the episode Rixty Minutes. The blatant improvisation is my favorite part of this episode I mean, how many times have you ever seen a fucking cartoon do improv? That is so ground-breakingly spectacular.
As a whole, the show has pretty much singlehandedly not only followed in the footsteps of Futurama tried to do back in the day and went even actually succeeded in breaking the mold of the generic "zany dad, hot wife, and wacky dysfunctional kids-type sitcom" that has plagued adult animated comedy shows since the beginning and have pretty much opened the door for a whole new generation of actually creative and boundary pushing animated comedies.

>bambi mom scene
How cool is that, that you don't let those "feelings" or "emotions" mess with your mind. Not like those sheep

You obviously failed to grasp the point I was making.

It's not about deliberately rejecting something sad out of machismo which is how you seemed to have interpreted it. It's about effort from the creative side.

Moral Orel is a good example of a show that handled its drama consummately. It wasn't sad for the sake of sadness. The drama sprang from the characters naturally. It was treated with an obvious care. It wasn't cry-porn. The drama was given the opportunity to well up naturally.

R&M, like in Bambi's mom's death scene, just throws its drama carelessly at the viewer in a hackneyed attempt to tug at heartstrings.

God forbid someone have a different opinion as you and try to provoke discussion about the merits of the show instead of shitposting and cirlcejerking the same ideas over and over.

That would be tragic.

All you did was spout buzzwords like "ground-breakingly spectacular" and "breaks the mold" (not true by the way). Saying your favorite part was improv is an opinion not a critique.

Then you said it "opened the door for a generation of actually creative animated comedies," which is just an unsubstantiated opinion. You just assumed that R&M was/is so good that other great things are going to invariably follow in its footsteps even though nothing of the sort has happened.

Your post reads like a fanboy on IGN forums.

i'm drunk asf and i was looking for people to talk about the show aboue. not you guys arguing.. so be it.

I'm not the original anon, you dip.

But I do agree with you on some points. Yeah, maybe "opening the door for a generation of actually creative animated comedies" is probably a bit of a stretch, but I do see (at least some) merit in trying to figure out why this particular show has 9.3/10 on IMDb. If I were to guess, it has to do with RnM is the first successful show of its kind (successful in the sense that many newcomers to the show find themselves enjoying it casually and appreciating many of the non-sequiturs and unconventional visual gags). I haven't seen any show try to copy RnM, but many shows mimicking a successful show's style happened with South Park and other cartoons, so I wouldn't immediately dismiss any notion of Rick and Morty being a source of inspiration/copying in the future.
