If he treated Ralph like he was an important part of his game then none of the shit that happened in the movie would've happened in the first place. Not just him, but all of them. Except Felix obviously.
I did like his speech when Ralph came back with the medal though. He did have a point. But he's still a tremendous douche.

The show becomes shit whenever they try to make him a sympathetic character or try to create emotional substance. It's a comedy, and I wish the writers remembered that.
I think it would be better if he was just a crazy science grandpa, and Morty was the main character. Not necessarily and alcoholic asshole, but just embracing science to the point where he lacks common sense and puts his grandson in a pickle.
