Amethyst actually does remind me of some moms I've met. The trashy, lazy, fun loving kind of moms that don't have many traditional motherly qualities but still physically pushed out a kid and after being stuck in the situation act like they're the best at parenting because they let their kids get away with all kinds of stuff, smoke weed with their kids, and call themselves "the fun mom."

We know Steven has a Sailor Moon manga. He likely doesn't know what school is really like.
So one day he makes up a little story about a school based on stuff he got from the manga or TV, and populates it with people he knows.
