Captain America: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." I can do those things, because I'm not a hero. I don't deserve this shield.

Iron Man: No, you can't! You're not!

Cap: I'm whatever the Accords needs me to be. Call it in.

Tony: They'll hunt you.

Cap: You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me, because it's what needs to happen. Because sometimes the truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more.. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.

Peter Parker: Cap? Cap! Why is he running, Mr. Stark?

Tony: Because we have to chase him.

Parker: He didn't do anything wrong.

Tony: Because, he's the hero the Avengers deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a proud patriot. A watchful protector. The First Avenger.

Someday you will be faced with sadness
Worrying all alone in the night

Softly a hand will reach your heart
In the depths of your mind
Something will begin to awaken

Surely I can become stronger

Someone who has lost the light
Cries with tears softly falling
Feeling your own helplessness
Still, even if it is only a little
The thought that you want to be better
Will become kindness and wrap around you.

Someday you may lose sight
Of the dim light ahead
And be desperately searching
So I will keep singing

If you lose everything
And can’t see through your tears
Feeling isolated and alone
When everything seems awful
And you don’t understand
The meaning of living
Surely Someday…
Surely Someday…

Beyond the sky
The day when you can see it
Will surely come someday

Searching for the meaning of happiness
Trusting in tomorrow again and again
Even if it seems you will be crushed and broken
Everything in me marks the end of that
Until that day I vow I will not give up

Surely Someday
Until that day
Surely Someday

Why do they look like they're planning to take over the world?
>>
>>82439968

Am I forgetting something or did we get no closure on Black Widow? After she helps Steve at the airport Tony said Ross was coming after her and she vanishes for the rest of the movie. I assume she'd end up with Cap but he seems to be raiding the Raft solo and there's no sign of her in Wakanda. Seemed odd they'd just ignore her when they showed how everyone else ended up in the last sequence/stingers. Maybe she could sleep on Clints couch for a while, his family were supposed to be off the books so Ross might not know about them and I doubt Tony's looking for her.

They've both done bad things, the difference is one is holding the other accountable for what they've done(though he's done just as much bad), while Wanda let her grudge against Tony go in AOU.

Also Tony is much older and more experienced, he should KNOW BETTER not to just leave her there with Vision. She left because she felt betrayed, knowing Tony didn't even trust her enough to talk to her face to face.

Tony did what he could to make sure she was comfortable given how hopeless the legal situation with her was. He wasn't holding her accountable, he was making sure they didn't put her in a straight jacket like they did in the Raft. He wasn't being an ass when he said he was protecting her. It was a shitty situation, but he made the best he could of it.

The irony is that Wanda probably realized that when they put her in there.

You don't get to 'feel betrayed' by something like that, just because you feel bad or apologize or start trying to do the right thing. Her little mindrape stunt in AoU fucked him up and led him to create Ultron. He's not actually an iron man, he's a severely damaged human being, she should expect him to be scared of her.

If he wanted her dead that would be one thing, but he's just afraid to talk to her face to face because of her own past actions. That should not be taken as a "betrayal."

I don't hate Wanda or anything, and I can sympathize with her. But everything that's happened to her she brought upon her own head at least as much as Tony, and everyone is acting like she's an innocent victim everyone is just bullying her for no reason. Meanwhile, Tony is responsible for everything wrong in the MCU and blah blah fucking blah.

It's the hypocrisy and eagerness to overlook all of Wanda's shortcomings that pisses me off.

He doesn't notice the army of helicopters around his house before switching on the television for fuck's sake. Not only that, he also somehow figured he walk around in his half-finished piece of shit beta suit, and not one of the other 50 more powerful/endurable ones he has stocked up in his basement.

He keeps talking about how keeping Pepper safe is the most important to him, but doesn't budge when she wants him to leave the Malibu home with her, despite knowing she will be in as much danger as him if it's attacked. So basically his pride is more important to him than his girlfriend's life.

Movie was okey. The problem is that looking back across the movies, the only person that really needs oversight is fucking Tony himself.
And zemo was a total waste of space. The movie would have worked much better without him. Honestly, the conflict would have been much more natural without him, and wouldn't have had such a simple resolution.
>>
>>82447224
But the conflict is not over.
>>
>>82447348
Yes it is. Caps letter to Tony instantly reconciles the two through the power of last minute words. Cap forms his own Secret-Avengers team which tony can use, the same way Coulson is Secret-Shield for President Ellis. Not that the tv show is relevant at all for the movie, but the comparison can be made.

Just got back and I'm going to regret posting this, but yeah, I was with Team Iron Man by the end.

I was neutral at the start and both sides had pretty fair points but all the events of the film felt like proof that yeah, they needed something to reign them in. ok yes I know it'll be abused because this is a film adapted from marvel but based on what happened in the movie

Steve seemed entirely motivated by his friendship with Bucky, he just happened to be right in this instance. Then he didn't seem at all interested in engaging or arguing his points.
There's standing your ground against the world and then there's ignoring and stomping over it.

How do you engage and argue with a man who is entirely motivated by misplaced revenge?

Bucky was a tool, a weapon. Tony wouldn't accept that because of his personal stake in things, and was willfully oblivious to Cap's point that a large organization can be corrupt.

We've seen from TFA that Cap will disobey orders for the greater good. This shouldn't be a surprise.

>How do you engage and argue with a man who is entirely motivated by misplaced revenge?
If we're talking about the end then yeah, you're not wrong. They're all pretty fucked up by the end.
>willfully oblivious to Cap's point that a large organization can be corrupt.
I never got the sense that Steve was trying to fight for his point, not with anybody.
His point that the large organization was a good one but it's not like you can just ignore it and hope it goes away.
And even that organisation has a point, the team really needed find ways of decreasing the chances of civilians being killed in their battles. Not to mention they're actions are going to affect and complicate international affairs. They couldn't just avoid responsibility.
>>
>>82451164
>>82451494
>Cap will disobey orders for the greater good.
It all hinges that Cap's always going to know the greater good. Which will be true as long as the studio say so but from an in-universe point of view.

Cap to me looked like he was avoiding responsibility and his actions felt inept and short-sited.
>>
>>82451597
But Cap wanted to take responsibility and not pass it off to the UN? His actions were perfectly legitimate considering the amount of corruption and politics that would stop the avengers from ever being able to stop a crisis again under orders from the UN.
>>

howard mason.jpg
49 KB, 1280x720
That's what he gets for trying to impress a poser.
>>
>>82451672
That's why I was neutral at the beginning.
But what were his plans for taking responsibility?
What where his plans for dealing with UN as an entity without joining them? and the politics that they would inevitably affect?

But after that his main motivation seemed to be protecting Bucky, and maybe dealing with Zemo. He didn't seem to be thinking about the consequences, just his immediate surroundings and circle.
I would have had way more confidence if he did more to argue his very reasonable point at the start.
>>
>>82451981
we never really got to find out because of the events in the movie, his arguments were placed forth and pretty much afterwards he had to protect his friend and deal with Zemo. Also say I agreed on the points about Cap and his side, why is team IM the right choice? That end of things is still wrong and shouldn't happen even if cap's way is wrong.
>>
>>82452063

Well, to be honest, IM isn't completely wrong, the whole problem rests solely on the assumption that people are corrupt and as such, the UN will control the Avengers for their interest.

But if we take out the whole "corruption" from the equation, everyone on the table would sign on a heartbeat. Including Capt America.

Black Panther sums it perfectly the whole situation when talking with Black Widow for the first time.

"I agree with the Accord, not with the politics."

The Treaty is good, it makes sense, the real and only problem is that it's run by men, and men are falible.
>>
>>82452063
I say I agreed with Team Iron Man at the end or I guess the call for regulation since the destructive behaviour on all sides seemed to prove the need for it.

At least if they has signed this thing, they could work together to play the system as much as everyone else done. Or at least engaged in dialogues to get a fairer or better deal. I mean it's not like their voiceless.
You have to engage with something if you want to influence it.

Honestly though it really was something that should have been thought of when the Avengers were founded.
>>
>>82439968
>His mother's name is Maria!
>>
>>82452381
But the point of TWS was that you can't have a government like that and not get corruption. It's a daring point to make and they sweep it under the rug because "LOL SUPER NAZIS ALL DEAD NOW".

Cap had to defend an innocent man who was tortured and brainwashed. Would it be easier if Cap could hand him over to someone who can help? Sure. But there's no way of knowing that HYDRA won't just take control of him again.

>>
>>82452581
>his friend's name is James!
>>
>>82452753
But Cap didn't seem to have a plan for how he was going to protect him other than to hide.

Corruption is inevitable but so is the fact they exist and their integral to the structure the world is built on.
If they were on "friendly" terms with the governments of the world, at least then they might be able to find ways of protecting Bucky without openly antagonising the powers of the world.

Or just any sort of alternate plan.
>>
>>82453113
After the HYDRA blow out there really was nowhere safe. They had agents EVERYWHERE, they almost got that death machine up in the air and nobody would've been the wiser.

That's HYDRA's deal. Cap just cut off a few heads.
>>
>>82445006
>he's never done anything intentionally destructive out if spite.
He did intentionally treat Wanda terribly because she is not American, and said so.
>>
>>82453113
Bucky was fine until the powers of the world let Zemo have a go at him. Placing Bucky under control of another organization that can easily be infiltrated is the worst choice. Pierce himself was a trusted public figure and we saw how he abused that to have control over Bucky. Somebody like Bucky really is best off the grid and hidden so that Hydra or more Zemos can't get to him. T'challa is the only one with the technology they can trust in this case. Government is fallible because it operates under the assumption that the people in power are good and making the right choices.
>>
>>82452753
>Would it be easier if Cap could hand him over to someone who can help? Sure
Cap tried and then Bucky got Zemo'd.

People forget that Cap was ready to sign up for the Accords until he found out they essentially forced a number of his friends into living in glorified prisons like stockpiled weapons, waiting to be unleashes by a possibly corrupt system. Having Zemo then break in and activate Bucky's brain washing just solidified to him the fact the Accords and the people overseeing them were inadequate for the job.
>>
Why didn't they just destroy the quinjet? Especially vision when he was trying to block the hangar
>>
>>82453263
That's fair.
My disappointment in Cap came mainly from the fact that he didn't seem to have any intentions of dealing with the problem.
To me Tony seemed to be trying.

It's to the film's credit I guess that they did a good job of setting up a believable conflict with weight on both sides.
>>
>>82453714
Well, Cap can't fix the world. He said in TWS that he hated having to compromise to do good, and now the HYDRA thing only furthered his disdain for the whole political thing. He focused on keeping his best friend out of enemy hands, because he owes Bucky his life.

I can't fault him for that. He's had to watch the life he had crumble to dust. Saw all that he fought for perverted. And then he finds a remnant of his past that he can help.
>>
>>82453519
Perhaps I'd have been more impressed if they found an efficient way of keeping Bucky off the grid much earlier.
>>
>>82453814
Plus it quickly escalted from help Bucky not get shot on sight to trying to stop the super soldier plot and Zemo in Siberia. He tried informing Tony and wasn't listened to. They were ultimately wrong about Zemo's actual plan, but at the time rounding up Team Cap was the only choice.
>>
>>82453814
He was doing so on a global stage where other people were going to get involved whether he liked it or not.

It felt irresponsible of him to continue acting as though he were in a void.
>>
>>82453941
They didn't have time to try. Once they caught Bucky after he was Zemo'd, they thought they had to go stop something worse happening in Siberia that relied on Bucky's knowledge of the base. There literally was no time for Cap and Bucky to even breathe between everyone coming after them. They went with T'Challa after the dust settled.
>>
Good movie
Gonna see it again tomorrow
>>
>>82454052
And that was the point where should have stopped and started thinking a little more.
Think of a plan, try engage in talks again.
And really, wasn't sure if it was intentional on the part of the writers, but Steve never felt like he pressed hard enough with the knowledge they had. Same with the accord stuff.

>To me Tony seemed to be trying.
Tony is not trying, Tony is failing. And that is why Tony ended up breaking the Accords he signed himself at the end, because he tried to go by the book but Ross blocked him. Tony himself didn't believe in the Accords, he only signed it because he was always planning to break it in secret when he needed to. Cap just don't plan to sign anything at all unless he really WAS going to obey it.

The biggest problem with the Accords and one that nobody in the movie brings up, is that while they're a good idea in theory, the last time the Avengers worked under someone they almost nuked them and thousand's of civillians because they looked like maybe they might lose.

And that they want to put them in the hands of Thunderbolt Ross, the idiot who thought it was a good idea to juice Blonsky up on defective super soldier serum, regularlly tried to kill Banner for no reason and has a habit of treating superpowered people like shit.

The Avengers have really good reasons not to trust anyone who's telling them to do this but instead they treat it like it's an entirely moral issue alone.

Ultron was entirely Scarlet Slut's fault.

Ultron was already in the works before the events of the movie happened.
Tony was going to use it anyway because he's tired of having to defend the planet.

Plus what she did was give visions to everyone about things that would make them afraid, she had no control over what was shown.

She could have shown him Pepper's dead body, for example.
