When I was 17 and first getting into webcomics, this guy named Frederick L. Jones contacted me, saying he's going to make the American shounen jump. Me being young and inexperienced got very excited and went along with him.
A few weeks later, he told me that I should make my story more diversified, which meant adding black characters, since that's what all the American comics were doing. I said sure, and asked him if he meant black like big lips, and thick hair, such as in Afro Samurai, or just typical manga-esque characters but with black skin and dark hair.
He got extremely angry at me, saying it was a racist thing to ask. He then treated me like shit, until I finally quit seeing that the project was going nowhere, and I didn't like speaking to him any longer.
After I quit, he sent me an email saying I was a racist, and made racist comments towards him, and that I was therefore being removed from the project. I was weirded out, as I had already quit.
Now he's making tweets about how I'm a racist.
Saturday AM is basicly a project with a few failed kickstarters, that was supposed to be a printed weekly magazine, but turned into a net print instead.

A quick example is in the pic related. Take a wild guess at which one is the British one.
They also use a VERY common thing where the white person is half-white half-japanese. So they have the blonde hair and blue eyes but look like everyone else.

Yes but the way women act and their personal experiences with relationships are quite different in the way media portrays them. The west tends to make them sexually active to empower them while in manga and anime, for "purity reasons", they don't even know how to hold hands and part of the comedy of my idea comes from that, which comes off as completely unrealistic in an american setting unless my characters are hamplanets.

To be honest, I don't mind people around the world (besides the FRA-JPN-USA trinity of comic makers) contributing to comic literature, love me some new perspectives and methods of storytelling. I just want the stories to be good on their own merits. If they're REALLY THAT GOOD, people will flock to them regardless of origin.

Black people in manga often look just fine: they look black without looking too much of a caricature (unless it's the point). Sure, you can say they're stereotypes, but stereotypes exist for a reason.
Which is why I always find it funny that some people get supper offended when one points out the japanese don't draw themselves "japanese looking".

Any kind of stereotyping can be "seen" as racist by people looking for shit to cry about, but stereotyping in itself is not a bad thing if you're not ashamed of what you are.
