I'm still under the assumption that they had a completely different plan for CB that they never went through with from Red Throne onwards.

The entire reason CB got better was to shit on Finn though, CB being evil and mind controlled the entire time totally ruins that.
Maybe they had that planned as a fallback route if the fanbase hated it (which they sure as hell did) but after Pipper died it was obviously closed off. Though it's not like they haven't replaced character's VAs other times.
