In BvS for example, Lex Luthor is implied to have been raped by his father. The implication comes out of nowhere and adds nothing to the story, it doesnt make the character relateable or understandable. It was solely added to try and make it seem like the character was 'dark'
Additionally in BvS, it is heavily implied that the branding of the Bat symbol is essentially a way of Batman targetting the criminals for punishment via prison rape.

"Batman's Dark"?. Yes he is and here is why.
Batman is a character who stares into the abyss of man on a daily basis. He sees the evil that men can do. He sees the violence, the viciousness, the cruelty of man. When he sees people, Batman automatically thinks of the worse case scenario and finds ways to beat them.
But, never, not for one second, does he do it for personal satisfactions or personnel vengeance. Rather, Batman does it because he believes that man should be defended from that darkness and hatred. He never kills his villains, not just for his personnel frame of mind but because, he believes even after all that they have done, anyone can be saved.
That is the character of Batman. He is a cynical man who sees the worse in people and should want to cease being a hero. But despite all the pain he will endure, despite the anguish he will experience, he continues down that path.
That is the thing that puts him on the same tier of Superman and Wonder Woman. That is what makes the Trinity. It's not their power, its not their strength. It's the desire to save and ultimately their faith in mankind that some can only dream of ever possessing.
