How do you guys feel about the fact that Spider-man, in contrast to the comics, is effectively one of the most powerful Supers in the MCU?

Make a list of earthbound heroes who've soloed a herald of Galactus.
>>
>>82426123
Yeah, at one point, didn't Spidey knock out a good portion of the Avengers for some reason?

Spider-Man is actually a bit OP when he wants to be
>>
>>82426060
>in contrast to the comics
Nigger what? He's always a heavy hitter if he's serious.
>>
>>82426060
Hi, /tv/!
>>
>>82426060
I mean, when the writers actually use his powers well (usually when he's too pissed to hold back) he is, it's just that you have people on Magneto's level running around to kind of steal the show from how deadly a combination his strength, agility, and ability to sense danger is. I'm glad Renew Your Vows touched on this, with the Regent's fixation on Spidey's powerset being the one that will really make him unstoppable.
>>
>>82426060
>one of the most powerful Supers in the MCU?

Yeah, all five of them. It's him, Wanda, Vision, Hulk, and Thor. Everyone else is just an amped-up human or using tech.
>>
>>82426234
Pretty much. Having a perfect sense of his surroundings and the ability to sense danger is already a great power. What makes him dangerous is that his physical powers perfectly compliment that and allow him to make the best use of his spider sense.
>>
>>82426060
I'm too busy feeling about his gummy candy textured body and thinking about him screaming while somebody just up and chews his fucking arm off
>>
>>82426253
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage
>>
>>82426060

Nearly all of Spider-man's villains are team level threats and he clowns on them so hard they barely manage street level. Think about that.
>>
>>82426319
On top of that, he has to hold himself back so that he doesn't actually kill them

Does this Spidey not have spider sense?
>>
>>82426575
He does
>>
>>82426575
He does, but it's pretty much unfocused.
>>
>>82426494
The problem with that is that then people include him in VS. debates in that weight category and he usually has such an unfair advantage compared to actual street level characters.

Nah, Spidey is ridiculous. He just slums it, but he could go pro or cosmic, and sometimes does when shit gets real.

He doesn't have a handle on using it yet. He's still figuring it out. His iris goggles in his mask help him with it.

He senses EVERYTHING. But he couldn't process them. It's like being Superman and hear people crying for help from across the entire country constantly. This version of Spiderman has trouble focusing because he gets distracted by so much white noise he couldn't block out.
>>

Tony picks up Pete's original home made mask and is all "what the fuck?" about it, Pete points out that he deliberately made it like to block out his senses because without it, he suffers from sensory overload

It's why Tony makes him the advanced mask with the auto focusing lenses

That should be impossible. Spider-Man doesn't have to be remotely conscious for his spider-sense to cause his body to avoid harm. He'll dodge the range of a watching sniper without ever even knowing why. Not muh spidey.

Spidey definitely ain't in Firelords strength range, but those are no love taps. The guy is still a power house and is attacking at blazing speed, even after awhile getting barraged by attacks that only sting, will begin to hurt.

Obligatory pic of Spidey's strength.

Believe me, I'm not underselling Pete. Dude's a beast. But heralds are probably the most powerful characters in Marvel.
Silver Surfer, for instance, once fought another Herald literally inside of a black hole. When Cable got full control of his telekinesis, making him the most powerful telekinetic on earth (save maybe a Phoenix host), they called the Silver Surfer to take care of him, and he got fucking DESTROYED.

Anon: Spider-Man is one of the most powerful Supers in Marvel.
He's by far the strongest Street level Marvel hero, not in terms of any singular statistic, but rather as a complete package.
He's stronger than several National, planetary, and galactic level heroes, but lacks the transportation and network (and desire) to go anywhere outside of NYC.
Actually, with him living in NYC, I can understand why he doesn't really own a car.
>>
>>82427285

616 Pete is 28 years old, Ultimate Pete was 16 when he died
>>
>>82426060

Thor & Iron Man are pretty close to the comics, but Hulk doesn't get stronger the angrier he gets and isn't nearly as durable as any comic Hulk.
>>
>>82427298
Firelord isn't SS level of power though. Most sources I have read state his Strength level at 50 tons. That is not much higher than Pete's.

Probably. He's a kid. He shouldn't have the resources, no matter how inventive or clever he is, to make something like what his classic suit is.

And no, I'm not talking about those stupid cosplay body gloves.
>>
>>82427482
He is, he's just a 15 year old kid and poor as shit, so all the computers and stuff he has at home are out of date crap he's scrounged up

I doubt they'll touch upon that in Homecoming. It would make Tony suddenly less symphathetic after Civil War.

>>82427542
Yet he had the resources to invent the webfluids and webshooters?
Thank god Tony didn't build those for him or I might've actually thrown some popcorn.
>>
>>82427589

>>
>>82427627
>Yet he had the resources to invent the webfluids and webshooters?

Prototypes made out of junk and scrap, yeah.
>>
>>82427544
What I don't like is how reliant it makes him on Tony in a way, unless he's gonna tell Tony to fuck off in his own movie after he finally figured out that what he wants to do is help people in their daily lives and not when the government tells him to. The government doesn't care if some fuckers rob a bank, but Spidey should.
>>
>>82427629
>They ever get Skrulls back?

That's part of the Fantastic Four package, if I remember correctly. So no. Fox still has Skrulls.
>>
>>82427672
They really want him to be Tony 2.0 here, huh?
>>
>>82427428
He. Is.
Look, it's not any one aspect of his powers, it is the whole package. Precognition, spatial awareness, agility, strength, stamina, healing factor (yes, he has one), genius intelligence, stealth, speed, and moxie out the ying-yang, I didn't even mention that he can freely stand and function on 5 surfaces of any given room that almost nobody else can use, or that his genius with chemicals can produce 1-hour evaporating webs that are both elastic and stronger than steel with a variety of settings and functions.

In a world of specialists, he is a generalist with an implausible amount of synergy in his powers. His precognition is either a generalized danger buzz, or only goes off a split second before certain doom, but his reflexes let him evade and avoid certain doom at point blank range. His super-strength is only middleweight by Marvel Supers standards, but at his speed, he can throw a dozen punches in the same time bigger bruisers throw one.
He's astonishingly OP, and has been since the 60's. The biggest reason he's a street level hero is that he doesn't have the money to leave NYC.
>>
>>82427696
Fucking gay.
>>
>>82427439
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I've got money on Spidey having a v1.0 suit, webslingers, etc. When he gets recruited. Tony just cranks it up to 11.
>>
>>82427711
Some versions of him are.
>>
>>82427627
It wasn't like he had the resources to make his own suit yet.
>>
>>82427745
Tony figuring out he's Spidey in the short amount that he's been active is also one thing I don't like, just for the record.
I know RDJ also play Holmes, but this is stupid. Tony is a tech guy, not a detective.
>>
>>82427683
>What I don't like is how reliant it makes him on Tony in a way,

I would think he'd be reliant on him financially.

>unless he's gonna tell Tony to fuck off in his own movie after he finally figured out that what he wants to do is help people in their daily lives and not when the government tells him to.

I can see that happening. Could actually be why he goes to sell photos of himself to the Bugle. He ditches Tony, and thus his funds, and goes to the Bugle to get money to afford the materials to keep being Spidey.

Literally as far as we know, Tony only gave Peter resources to make better equipment. The suit he wears before Tony recruits him is his Mark 1. The airport battle is his Mark 2.
>>
>>82427826
Same difference, these days. If Pete had a Starkphone, his ass was datamined.
>>
>>82427745

He does. He's got a rudimentary Spideysuit and the webshooters already when Tony goes to recruit him. Tony just makes him a more advanced suit with a mask that lets him control his senses better.

Tony meeting him isn't his origin, he's been active as Spider-Man for a bit of time. He was bitten by the spider six months earlier.
>>
>>82427826
Tony in MCU is not averse to drones or hacking SHIELD, or any other number of ethical concerns. Rookie Pete might have slipped up and swung Home in costume instead of getting on a subway or something, and Tony just chased that rabbit.
>>
Few things in comics make me smile as much as when Peter gets serious. One of the few contenders is when Peter gets goofy.
>>
>>82427781
Just buy some spandex. That's what Amazing Spidey did.
Just have him already have all his shit from the get go in Civil War. Not have Tony swoop in and be all "kid I know you're Spidey, here have a suit and help me out for a little bit here" because they need to suck off Iron Man's fame.
>>
>>82427901
>Just buy some spandex.
And thermal undies.
>>
>>82426433
His most interesting stories are when he is doing street-level stuff I think. The normal life vs. super life juggling and all that. I think a lot of people know him best from that or would consider those his best stories.
>>
>>82427854
>Mayday and Cass on the same picture
Never thought I'd see the day. And now you're making me sad because if they'd ever make a Mayday movie you just know they'll out her in a "progressive" costume.
>>
>>82427696
Skrulls as a whole are shared, but only Fox can use the named Skrulls.

So Tony is now a sugar daddy, makes sense.
Just wait until they retcon that into the comics.
>>
>>82427901
Damn man, what's your hate against him? It's not like Tony made the spider that bit him. All he did was make the suit. It's not like Comic Tony hasn't done that before, either. He'll probably get another in Homecoming, maybe even Iron Spider.

I kind of want full on sinister six for Homecoming with Doctor Octopus as the lead. I mean its not like you need extensive character depth for Shocker, Rhino, or Mysterio. Like Superman and Batman, at the start, Spidey wasn't as crazy strong.

It's just that as time wenton and he became more popular, even the most popular Marvel character, it's natural fpr him to get wanked and escalated to higher levels.

You got people nowadays saying he couls take on the Hulk full on when before it was obvious he couldn't. Hell, Hulk got much stronger as well.

It's just natural. With great popularity, comes great power wanking

This is a side effect of the MCU massively depowering characters to be "grounded" and then, in trying to distance yourself from two previous franchises, you try to make a character's powerset identical to the source material

If this was TASM's Spidey it would be more like the rest of the MCU, but I guess they figured consistency doesn't matter as it's just a cameo anyways.
>>

>>82428679
At this rate I wouldn't be shocked if Fox actually did this to Disney to get the rights to Inhumans with some bullshit argument about "they are Fantastic Four characters and our contract says we have total control over them."

Why? No reason other than pure spite and hate. what if that's the actual reason why the movie was "delayed?"
>>
>>82426060
I still don't think he has anything on Thor, Hulk and Vision, but outside those 3 he's top-tier, even in this universe where Cap grows stronger every movie.
>>
>>82426433
He has a versatile powerset that allows him to be useful in any situation, but the conflicts he faces outside of events or instances where he finds himself on a team are generally street level.
>>
>>82426234
I remember someone noted once, if someone with Spidey's powerset went on a rampage and there isn't other superpowered people to subdue him, you'd pretty much only be able to stop them by carpet bombing an area the size of several city blocks surrounding them in order to be sure you got him

>>82426764
well those are the Ultimate versions for one thing, who were kinda chumps if I remember correctly
>>
>>82428957
If that were the case wouldnt AoS be on hiatus since Inhumans are heavily featured?
>>
>>82428913
I think it's more that this movie in particular is made by the guys who, y'know, actually get their characters and understand that they should be portrayed as powerful as they should be.

Pete in CW doesn't display any more power than say, the TASM one did. He displays physical strength above Cap, but doesn't come out of a one-on-one fight with Cap unscathed.
>>
>>82428952
Or Doom and Namor being asshole bros who doublecross each other all the time.
>>
>>82428957
Let's hope they do. Because that might make Marvel drop all this Inhumans crap in the comics.
>>
>>82428965
Vision, he could take down. Hulk and Thor are too popular to job to him anally.
>>
>>82429029
He should come out of it unscathed though, even in the movie's own continuity.
>>
>>82426575

>>82429433
it's not like cap's a stroll in the park for peter in the comics too, considering that they never want to kill each other, anyway
>>
>>82429531
That's true, but in the movie he literally gets hit by a truck and stops it like it's nothing. Cap isn't that strong even with main character buffs.
>>
>>82426282
Spidey has ALL of the required secondary powers. It's a really dangerous combo. I can't imagine what would happen if you combined that with something that gave you more raw destructive power like Nova or Magneto
>>
>>82428995

Yeah, because he'll know when a bullet is coming beforehand if you try to snipe him. Carpet bombing would be a little extreme, but you'd basically have to corner him into a situation where there's no out. It would almost be like Black Cat's luck powers in a way: If there's even a 2% chance of him surviving, his powers put him in that 2%. If you can't guarantee a victory, you'll fail.
>>
>>82429122
Vision can fly, has super human reflexes, and can shoot laser beams out of his eyes. Spidey couldn't even touch him.
>>
>>82429122
Once again, raw destructive power is one of the few ways to overwhelm him. If he had more raw power he'd be unstoppable

When Stark meets him and asks him to explain what the hell are his powers he explains his senses are extremely enhanced and he has a hard time focusing, so he uses his suit to shut part of the spider-sense out

Eh, if one turned into the other it wouldn't feel the same. Gargan was a cool sort of mechanical equivalent to spiderman, and seeing his machine at work is what's cool about him (like Ock). Literally no mention on that page of his spider-sense working automatically as opposed to him having super-fast reaction speeds.

You know that originally his Spider Sense just tingled when he was in danger and he had to actually do shit himself to capitalise on that, right?

It's only over time that his power became more and more like prescient clairvoyance and became more and more accurate and specific in warning him of dangers, thanks to comic book power creep.

I prefer the older style SS where he knows something is about to happen, but not what, and has to actually do something. And strangely enough that version fits much better with the generally lower power levels of the MCU, so I'm not even remotely surprised that this is how his SS functions at the moment in the MCU.

Wait until Homecoming, you'll get super-amped autoresponse spider sense there, I'm sure. As well as a villain capitalising on a way to dampen or restrain it.

While the usual audience=power levels rule of comic protagonists tends to bother me, I sort of like it on Pete. Part of the fun with him is he's a semi-average guy who's a hue nerd and just had this responsibility of spidey powers dumped on him. Then cosmic and multiverse stuff gets in the mix and I still think of this stressed out dork trying to kill a dark god so he doesn't miss his date or so he has time to give Aunt May flowers for Mother's day. It's really charming no matter how strong he gets and no mater what bullshit he has to deal with on a daily basis.

Alright, famalamadingdongs, Avengers 4 is the Sinister Six (we don't have to title it that). Who are your six, and when are they each introduced? They don't have to all be Spidey villains.

Hard mode: at least 4 Spidey villains
Expert mode: all 6 Spidey villains
Big-head mode: no Spidey villains

Mine:

1. Norman Osborne - established in Homecoming but not Goblin until second Spidey solo film (and he's the hulking, fireball throwing Ultimate Goblin)
2. Doc Ock - Starscream to Norman's Megatron; again, like in Ultimate, Doc Ock and Goblin result from the same accident
3. Shocker (the Scott Lang of the S6 making annoying jokes of their plans; unlike Scott, he isn't liked by the rest of the team)
4. Sandman - introduced by being broken out of a sophisticated holding cell in the Raft to be offered a spot on the team; he was arrested by the Avengers for a string of heists in Dubai (Hydro-Man is responsible for his breakout).
5. Hydro-Man (can do some wombo combos with Sandman)
6. Scorpion - teased in Homecoming (vague reference to Mac Gargan by JJJ)
>>
>>82435045
>Big-head
Will Hammerhead ever be able to be played without seeming like a joke? Maybe if Kingpin comes around he can be a sort of right-hand or "business" connection, but he doesn't strike me as the type of guy to matter.
I guess also maybe he could be the gag villain that spidey stops in the intro, like Rhino, but I'd want someone like Slyde for that (even if nobody knows about him)
>>
So I'm confused does Spidey get beat up in the new Captain America or does he actually put up a fight?
>>
>>82435045

1. Boomerang
2. Shocker
3. Beetle 2
4. Overdrive
5. Speed Demon
6. Dormammu???
>>
>>82434273
The Lizard took it. It's supposed to be important because it was thought the baby had pure goblin serum from both his parents being having it (turned out not to be the case), so Doc Ock thought it had healing powers.
Why he didn't just try and kidnap Mr. Immortal and unlock his secrets is a mystery.
