It sucks that we're not capable of animation like this
>>
>>82420091
Western Animation is fucking terrible compare to japansese. why can't we be more like them?
>>
>>82420091
Isn't this rotoscoped?
>>
This and Gotham Knight are GOAT, I don't know why we don't get more like them.
>>
I don't really care for it. And The Second Renaissance was 2spooky, like really to the point that I don't ever want to watch it again.

>>82422372
No, it's just Shinya Ohira going bananas.
>>
>>82422333
America quickly decided that animation was to be cartoon animation for children and development pretty much stopped there. In Europe and Russia I think there was more interest in "art animation" like Fantastic Planet and Dream of a Ridiculous Man. Neither of them thought of animation as something akin to cinema.

There are various things that can explain the success of anime, but attitude is where it all starts. If you think animation should just be cartoons for children then the rest doesn't matter because you've already lost the game.
>>
>>82418243
Hated it. It was too violent and scary.
>>
>>82422441
>>82423048

Are you both 12?
>>
The one where they capture a machine in order to convert it is freaky as fuck. Really cool concept and style though.
>>
>>82418243
I liked it, it's a shame it had to be part of the matrix and not something better. I do not regret owning the DVD.
>>
>>82423095
Have you actually seen The Second Renaissance?
>>
>>82423156
Yes, why else would I ask if you're 12?
>>
>>82423095
They just be baiting

It's a great movie
>>
>>82423095
....You know most of /co/ is made up of 15 and 16 years olds, correct? It's a blue board.
>>
I wish more compilations where out like this , but the matrix was much deserving of the treatment
>>
>>82423156
On the one hand it is hard to watch, but on the other it is a sign of great art that it hits you in the feels.
That it upsets you is good as it reminds you that you are human and that you care about sentient beings.
>>
>>82418243

Was pretty cool. (saw it when I was 12)

this, are you guys literally children? Good media should invoke a strong emotional reaction, good or bad.

Maybe you're just a sociopath.
>>
>>82418243
Kind of stupid.

While it's cool to watch, the robot war/ second renaissance while very 40k was kind of flawed...if anything the robots would turn to atomic energy or geo thermal and blacking out the sun would best be their idea as it would kill off all life on the planet in a month from humans to birds, grass, trees, fish...etc.

Also the Animatrix claims nukes do nothing to the robot city...but nukes have emp waves and radiation fucks up electronics.

sick, I ran track in high school and college so it's my favorite one in the Animatrix, I'm not surprised such a good studio was able to boil down the essence of it so well

Some thoughts:

>"Final Flight of the Osiris"
basically here on a technicality. Pretty dull and not memorable.

>"The Second Renaissance Part I/II"
Probably the definitive piece of the project. Peeling back all the mysteries of the origins so flatly of the Matrix's oriign feels like a bit of a misstep in hindsight, but it was a a hell of a ride.

>"Kid's Story"
A bit dull, it's one like FFOTO that feels very much mandated rather than experimental and interesting. Not bad, but it just serves to explain a side character's origin which seems like a waste.

>"Program"
Just above FFOTO for my least favorite. Its not really bad, but it feels like someone just wanted their to be a really typical Japanese/Samurai segment just because it's an anime.

>"World Record"
Absolutely brilliant and might just be my favorite. Not much more to be said, but the intense feel really sells it.

>"Beyond"
The most clever premise out of all these shorts; simple but perfect. It feels like they truly used the universe to do their own thing rather than try to do something dark.Rationalizing the supernatural via the Matrix is always an interesting concept, and it's done much better here than in the movies itself(Albino vampire twins)

>"A Detective Story"
I really liked this one as a teenager. The neo-noir/Cowboy bebop feel is really cool. But as a concept it feels like it doesn't take advantage of the setting enough and it's a bit dull to watch now.

>"Matriculated"
This one grew on me. At first I thought it was a goofy waste, but when I rewatch it it's one of my favorites. It goes through a bunch of tones wildly and really plays around with the universe in a good way.

Overall I really liked it, and wish WB did more with their properties. The Batman and green Lantern DTVs where also good. Its criminal they didn't do this for Pacific Rim.

The machines did nothing wrong.
>>
>>82430011
Wasn't the guy being shot in the image OP is based actually a horrible person or something?
>>
>>82430011
Originally no, but afterwards yes.

Machines failed to surpass their "child parent" relationship with humans. When initially rejected as beings they attempt to show the world how great they can be by taking over the world economy standing before the UN and asking for humans to tell them how proud they are at their creations.

Not realizing that this massive take over only increases hostilities and decide the next best step is a war. One in which they are clearly the superior nation and could easily just defend borders but instead decided to undergo a global campaign that results in the enslavement of all humans.

They also ignore all humans who were sympathetic to their initial cause. A human defended B166ER and the first part shows a sizable demonstration with humans involved rallying for robot rights.

>>82422441
what a couple of faggots
>>
Wwwwhhoooooo am Iiiiiiii?!!!
>>
>>82431171

Well, it's hard to compete in a world economy against beings that essentially produce and innovate at a rate that human limitations couldn't allow us to reach. The robots also fucked off to their own corner of the world to avoid more shitstorms to be fair.

It was humanity's fault for developing machines to that level. I never understood making beings that are not only just like us, but capable of reason, and worse, able to understand their potential as our superiors.
>>
>>82431627
As I understood it machines capacity for reason was a product of machines being in charge of making new machines. Not a desired outcome by humans but one that developed over time and eventually resulted in B166ER.

However I wouldn't be surprised if it was done by design. Perhaps a message about humanities disposition to always rule and have something to rule over.

Either way, the machines even bothering to enter into the world economy is an issue in itself. They staked out their own land and being machines I don't see a reason for them to even need anything humans produce or care to sell out to them. Let alone want to position themselves into becoming economic leaders. Why bother with another population on Earth that you don't need and does not want you to be a part of their system?

So while they did go and isolate themselves they didn't "fuck off" in fact they just pushed themselves further into humanities lives in becoming a source for material consumption. It should also be noted that the Machines themselves sent ambassadors to the UN indicating that before the war isolation was not something they wanted.
>>
>>82432118
>even need anything humans produce

Energy.

Having a limited and specific area for their city also limits the available resources. If the humanity choose to block the sun, its because that was the only available resource the machines had left, and even with the most efficient panels available, having a limited area also limits how much energy they can collect.

Then, is also unlikely they could mine and process the raw materials for every component on their machines, which includes all kind of metals and alloys (aluminium, iron and copper for starters), plastics and random shit, like glass.

Second Renaissance wasn't necessarily realistic but it was a great allegorical story

And it was scary as all get out
>those machines experimenting on live humans
>those humans beating machines in the street I'M REAL
>that war scene GOD HELP ME, GOD HELP ME GAUUGHHHH
>>
>>82422372
Animator Shinya Ohira knows how use a skateboard and he probably took some videos for reference, but it's certainly not rotoscoped.
>>
>>82432632

Requiring resources still does not lend itself to becoming economic leader. It's a similar cases as with the war effort. There remains a line where the Machines could have left it at, we defend our boarders and take in only what we need.

Also I don't believe the shorts establish that the sun had become the last resource of consumption for machines. It obviously was not as the Machines were still able to still support the last push in the war, along with create the systems neccesary to harvest human energy. All with their last available resource gone. Thats a bit inconsistent.

Instead I think the indication was that Machine technology was entirely sun based using other resources as a second option after the fact. The world as first presented before the war does not depict a society still dependent on oil etc but one of prosperity and golden age technology.
