>During his panel Saturday afternoon at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, Urban reportedly said "conversations are happening" about that "Dredd" series at one of those two streaming services.

>Of course, "Dredd" fans have been down this path before, with glimmers of hope for a sequel seemingly emerging, only to be quickly shattered. Producer Adi Shankar said last year that because of the film's poor box-office performance -- it grossed $41.5 million worldwide, falling short of its production budget -- someone of Dwayne Johnson's caliber would have to sign on for a sequel to secure financing.

>"Maybe we get The Rock in and fucking save the franchise," he said, "because The Rock fucking saves everybody’s franchise.”

>But of course that's for a movie, not a Netflix or Amazon series, where the budgets are significantly lower. We've seen what can be done on a streaming service with series like "Daredevil," so a television return to Mega-City One might not be out of the realm of possibility.
>>

Wouldn't have the same scale or budget, so I wouldn't watch

>the film's poor box-office performance -- it grossed $41.5 million worldwide, falling short of its production budget --
This is your fault, /co/.
>>
>>82410243

I really hope this becomes a thing, Dredd was too damn good to just let die. Also Urban seems pretty bro-tier so it'd be cool to see him be in something that isn't just moderately successful.
>>
>>82410294
What scale or budget? It was just grungy corridors.
>>
>Dredd didn't make its budget back
>Almost Human cancelled
>Urban stuck doing Star Trek
Poor Urban.
I hope he gets this or Orm in Aquaman
>>
>>82410243
Would Dredd be more successful if movie was released after Deadpool?
>>
>>82410469
And they won't show robots or many muties.
>>
I would prefer somebody make a Dredd cartoon straight from of the comics. A low budget cartoon can do way more and would look way better than a low budget tv show.

>Deadpool is like Dredd
>>
>>82410243

I don't know why the fuck they didn't just make Almost Human (sci-fi series where Karl Urban plays a future cop in a crime infested city) a Dredd series
>>
>>82410503
No you fucking tard, would an R-rated comic book based film have performed better after the most successful R-rated comic book film ever?
>>
>>82410511
It pretty much was. Urbans character also hated robots and there was a giant wall surrounding the city that we didn't see what was behind
>>
>>82410503
We both know I didn't mean that.
>>
>>82410524
It depends. Would casuals go watch the movie expecting a DP ripoff?
>>
>>82410474
I thinks so. Didn't it have a serious marketing issue though?
>>82410503
You can't be this retarded
>>
>>82410474
No, reddit would say

"WHY IS THIS SO SERIOUS? COMIC BOOKES NOT SERIOUS!!"
>>
>>82410474
One of the main reasons Dredd failed was that it had dreadful marketing, so even in a supposed R-rated movies renaissance started by Deadpool Dredd would still have a hard time if it still had the same marketing effort.

But I actually paid money to see this
>>
>>82410574
More for the shoot outs. I don't think it would come off as a ripoff, but they definitely would be digging the gore and slow-mo (8 gigs per second)
>>
>>82410610
Yes, but then you told your friends to watch some Big Two crap!
>>
>>82410503
he didnt mean that
>>

No, we all saw Dredd together. Was there even a big two movie out at the time?
>>

Big Two: The Sequel
>>

That was the summer of Avengers and ASM, but both movies were pretty much done by Sept.

TDKR
I only remember that due to the fanart of Judge Death trying to shoot up an empty theatre
>>

No idea. Maybe they spent all money on 3D.
>>82410590
Fucking reddit.
>>

i didn't even realize dredd was a thing until i saw the DVD for sale.

A Dredd cartoon is an even more unrealistic expectation than a Dredd TV show.
>>

Not as badly as it could have.

And they would be right, the Dredd comics were chessy as fuck, the stallone movie has more in common with the comics than this adaptation, the only thing they nailed was Dredd himself.

Dredd is perfect for a low budget procedural, this is great news and hopefully it will result in an actual tv series.

Feels shit man.
>>

Since a lot of the original stories are set inside dystopian cyberpunk buildings, the lack of massive budget may just be a blessing considering the overall griminess needed.
$1million an episode would be nothing to Netflix and would probably produce a pretty good six or thirteen part series.
>>
>>82410243
I'm trying to net set up myself for dissapointment, but this could be huge.
>>
>>82412102
If you seriously think a Dredd TV series could be produced for $1 Million an episode, then you obviously have no idea how television is made. Mad Men cost $2 Million an episode to produce, and that was just people sitting around talking in homes and offices.

In order to work, it would easily need $5-6 Million per ep, minimum.
>>
I'd watch the shit out of Urban's Dredd on an episodic basis
>>
>>82413135
Mad Men also had union employees dedicated to things like drink and cigarette continuity, almost all the items were antique and period accurate, as well as it being a wet set extending the amount of takes and overtime paid
>>
>>82413135
>>82413159
Also all the minor characters who only appear for a few seconds had speaking roles and therefore had to be paid more, vs an action show where you can use goons who dont speak to advance the plot
>>
>>82410243
Soon they'll reboot Dredd with The Rock playing Dredd and it makes billions.
>>
>>82413272
No way. He'd take off the helmet.
>>
>>82413272
CAN YOU SMELLALALALALALALALA....WHAT THE LAW IS COOKING!?
>>
>>82410482
They did a Terminator TV show so I think they could work it out here.
>>
Personally I'd rather wait for Garland's next few films to be successful and for him to gain the clout to make the sequel
>>
>>82410472
He's good at he charcter. Wish he got more play.

Netflix series would work great.
>>
I'll believe it when I see it. Rumour chasing doesn't achieve anything.
>>
>>82410315
I went to go see it two weeks in and my local theater had already dropped it! I was fucking pissed.
>>
Series I think would work very well and better for Dredd a better way to play out the Progs

I googled this and I still don't know what you meant by this.
>>
>>82411365
Not him, but sounds good to me. Tired of stories being dragged out for seasons, one major villain, etc.

I actually thought the first season of Justified was best, and grew bored with the subsequent season-long storylines.

I went to the Calgary comic con. Didn't see that panel though. True story.

>>
>>82416907
Calgary's weather is notoriously schizophrenic. Two weeks ago it was in the mid-20s, last week there was rain and freezing cold wind through to the first couple of days of the expo, then yesterday it was back up to the mid 20s (got sunburned from lingering around the outdoor areas of the con) and it's supposed to get even hotter by midweek.
