I've been hardened by three days of big city life. No longer shall I trust anyone for fear of parting this fool with his money! Oh, you're an old lady with a walker who needs my hand in crossing the street? "Nice try," I scream confidently. I remove your old lady disguise to reveal a van that's going to abduct me for ransom. The walker? Another van. Everything is a scary kidnapper van in this wicked wicked world. Protect yourself.
>>

In all honesty, I stopped paying attention to beggers and keep my hands in my pockets.
>>
My initiation to big city life was Minneapolis, where the homeless just ask you to sign their stick that they sell as art to hipsters.

Fake beggars, tons of them both in and outside the main city of Memphis.

As soon as I saw one on the side of the road while riding about with my Dad, he told me to never trust them and look at their clothes and shoes, see if they're good or not. Also said if they frequent an area, look for a car that's also around while they're here and gone while not.

Like a guy in a wheelchair who gets up at the end of a day of begging and jumps in his maserati to go pick up your mom for a hot date

When I was homeless funnily enough plenty of well dressed, clean beggars approached me to beg for a few quid.

Yeah, I had a co-worker once who, one morning, bought a breakfast biscuit from Bojangles and gave it to a homeless man. On his way out of the parking lot, he saw the homeless man throw it away.

Not enough alcohol or drugs in it for his liking, I guess.

Thanks to EU I saw my first begger 6 years ago.

Had to take a second look, because I couldn't believe someone was honestly begging money on the street with a cup.

I have about three, maybe four, homeless people I see regularly and I've always wondered if other people "keep tabs" on their local homeless. I know their lives are none of my business, but I worry for the health of at least two of them. Also my city has had an influx of faux homeless lately, mother fuckers aren't even subtle either. I've seen a woman with a manicure and designer sunglasses begging by the freeway.
>>
>>82411701
We've been getting a lot of fake beggars lately in my town too, but a lot of the townsfolk caught on quick because the same retard would drop these guys off then sit in the Target parking lot across the street in an extremely fancy car.

There's a girl who begs outside my local casino. She pulls in over a grand each week. It doesn't help that a jackass judge called all the little grass islands in the middle of a road as "NOT ROAD" so every single one is packed with beggars now.

What is it with tourists and backpacks? It's like they think they won't be able to find anything in a city. You can always tell if someone's a tourist if they have a huge fucking backpack, water, that sort of shit. They look more like they're going hiking or camping than traipsing around a city for an afternoon.

I think it's pretty easy to tell if someone is actually homeless or not. It really depends on how receptive they are to charity. In general actual poor people are less likely to take money but more likely to take food. The fakes will always just want money.

> It's like they think they won't be able to find anything in a city.

Oh, you can find anything in the city, but you might not realize that it all costs more money. The cost of living is just higher on average in a city vs a smaller town, so many every day items cost more there. A visitor won't want to pay $3 for a bottle of water that they could bring from home from a pack of six bottles they bought for $1. Especially when they just got done paying travel costs.

Also, backpackers are sometimes carrying all of their clothes and shit for the trip in there between changing places to stay, or just choose not to keep their clothes at where ever their staying just in case they decide to crash someplace else.

I remember a good year and a half ago. My friend takes me along to the casino a lot and there was this one chick playing near us. They got all chatty, says shes been there all day, then and we went somewhere else. We saw her around more, walking around occasionally stopping on a machine. Then we saw her talking with different men all night. Shed walk outside, then come back and play. Then she came back wearing a different shirt, said someone wife thought she was flirting with her man. We came to the conclusion she was sucking/fucking men in the parking lot for gambling money.

We've seen her there on other occasions too. Early 20's, thin, frumpy, probably crawling with STDs.

There's also an old guy in my town that's scammed probably thousands. He's an old white guy, always wearing golfing attire, sometimes wearing a coke or Pepsi hat. Hell walk into businesses or up to people asking for money to get a tow truck. He'll even take people to a car that won't start sometimes. He says he works for either Pepsi or coke and hell give you free soda in the future if you help him out. The dozens of people replying to a Facebook post about him locally showed he'd been doing this for years, all up and down the Central Valley, CA. If out of the few thousands of people that saw the post, dozens commented they got scammed by him, I can only imagine all the people that didn't see the post or don't have Facebook at all. The guy is raking it in big time, average he was getting was $40.

The local yearly town fair is crazy with the food prices. There's a McDonalds directly across and it must make an easy million whenever the fair is in town. A bottle of water is $4, and there is only one water fountain in the entire fairgrounds.

>When I was homeless
Honest question, there exist place to house the homeless in most occidental countries. Any valid reason to not go there?
>>
>>82417804
Not that guy, but if you mean homeless shelters, even if you're staying at one you're still homeless. I was homeless for a little while and the shelter I stayed at only guaranteed you a bed for one night at a time, and to get that bed you had to wait in line outside no matter what the weather was like. It had showers and two meals a day, though.

There were some guys who didn't go to the shelter but hung out in the general area, most likely because they either couldn't or wouldn't obey the shelter's rules. One guy lived in a car nearby but only came in to use the showers and eat the occasional meal; he had a couple small dogs he was taking care of and he couldn't bring them into the shelter.
>>
>>82417804
>Any valid reason to not go there?
A shelter doesn't make you not homeless.
Also most were full with potentially months/years until a vacancy. The few others were small with first come first serve policy (and only open a few days a week) so I just found a cozy, quiet place instead of standing in line with smelly hobos. There were quite a few oddballs I'd rather not share a room with.

Also I'm white and male with no drug or alcohol abuse history, nor was I pregnant or raped. That means I wasn't priority for social housing.
Still, got a stable room after 2 months and after that it was easy clawing my way back up.
>>
>>82406876
begging is a get rich quick scheme you just need to know where to do it and look the part

That white part was mostly as a joke, I'm not sure if they favour them but the government worker I've talked to gave me the impression that it would be better if I wasn't so pasty.
Fun fact: I've been with two social housing organizations and the overwhelming majority of people housed were Africans.
Now that I think about it I've only seen whites sleep on the streets usually in a puddle of piss.
>>
>>82418544
That's probably just due to how easy it is to get sent to jail if you're black. Even if you're just sitting down you can get carted off for taking up two seats even when the whole train.bus is empty, putting your bag in an empty seat and so on.

>>
>>82418544
>Now that I think about it I've only seen whites sleep on the streets usually in a puddle of piss.

In the UK the overwhelming majority of homeless people you see begging are white men and roma gypsy women.

White women can always find a man to give them a place to stay.

Blacks and Middle Eastern's are targeted by Muslim's and allowed to sleep in the Mosque as long as they are Muslim or convert to Islam. They are pretty pushy about it as well so pretty much 100% of blacks and browns end up going to the Mosque.

The Roma women beg during the day and get picked up by their male relatives in cars at night.

That just leaves White men to sleep rough in the streets.

(I have never seen a Chinese type Asian begging or sleeping rough, total respect to that ethnicity).

Homelessness is such a tricky problem.

In my home city (UK), the council recently put up posters encouraging people to NOT give money to beggars as they could spend it on drugs and booze or whatever, and to instead contact local charities and such. People were outraged but I'm thinking, 'How many of you actually gave them anything in the first place?'

But yes, I always check the nails and shoes for fake beggars.

Come to think of it, is that part of the reason why NEETs seem so much more common in China and Japan? Especially the latter.

I recall seeing another reason for Japan is that its business are even more hesitant to hire entry-level employees than the West, making it harder for younger people to be employed, which probably also contributes to the NEET population.
>>
>>82421211
Yeah, basically. Partially gub'ment bucks and partially because the parents are obliged to fuel the kids.

It's also not too weird for families to live together even after the children have grown up or gotten married.

Another thing is that a lot of the families you find in Western places had the money to move, and probably have the money to keep their families from homelessness. The poorer Chinese tend to be stuck in China, especially the villages on the mainland.

This is less common in families that have lived in Western countries for a generation or two.
>>
>>82421325
That's a shame. I'm bordering on NEET in the US myself, but I'm fighting it as hard as I can. It's so easy to fall into that habit if you're not careful and don't have particularly strict parents.
