Songs are never a proper replacement for storytelling. This os fact. They embellish dialogue to the point where information exchange slows to a crawl. Instead of getting to the point of showing a character feeling sad, the character sings about how sad they are for several minutes, extending the length of time to communicate to the audience about how sad the character is.
Even if the instrumentals and lyrics are catchy, songs have no business outside of musical theater. If you have a story to tell, use plain words or better yet, show it.
